Wow, Gamespot score is 6: Is it so bad ?!
Alternatively just wait for a sale then buy it and make your own mind up.

Or just play the trial and make up your own mind instead of trusting someone's else opinion (like mine :))) ) Origin Access for a month costs peanuts, and you can see for yourself. Plus you get access to a huge library of origin titles for a month.

Does it matter? Now that it's 2017 I'm looking at pretty large backlog of good games and I still have to finish the state of the art RPG which is The Witcher 3 GOTY (postponed buying it until holidays 2016 for hardware reasons). Some derpy EAbioware AA- title doesn't fit in there. My time is limited. Maybe in 3-5 years for five bucks, when I suddenly run out of games. ;)

Such a shame. Great world's decent combat but dull lifeless story writing and dialogue delivered badly.

CDPROJEKT need to get cyberpunk out quick and save us from this Clownery.

I have a simple policy. Don't give EA any more money than I absolutely have to. It only encourages them ;)

I think Andromedas problem in the End is that its allright. But being allright at this time will be a bit akward given how suprisingly great this Year has been so far. Can't think of any Year that had this many really great games in the first quarter.

While that is great it can't be from Andromeda, I'm pretty sure Liara isn't in Andromeda ^^

EA access gives a discount against the game which cancels out the cost of EA access (unless you try a 3rd party key seller). Just remember to cancel the subscription after the trial.

Yep, it's not just this year either... last year saw "the division" (multi-player), dark souls 3 (combat), witcher 3 (storyline) [etc]. Looking longer-term.. in the past 6 years the Bioware name has been attached to TOR, ME3, DAI and MEA... games of varying degrees of 'ok' - none of which did anything particularly impressive.

I'm ok with playing Andromeda, but I'm not ok with 'Mass Effect: Andromeda 2 - it's kindof OK with the same awful Bioware UI and dodgy animations'.

I have the same policy, but having that access I plan to
a) finish mirrors edge catalyst (which is an one-shot affair) without purchasing it,
b) check out sw: battlefront and decide if I want to bother with it at all
c) check if there are DLCs for ME's available in the oaccess (most of the games are either premium or deluxe editions).

So that's a pretty good value for me there.

Was tempted to get EA access (Xbox) just to play ME early, but going through the list of other games in the catalogue I found very few games I'm acutally interested in playing.

I quite happy that there's a lot of negativity over what the weak parts of this game seem to be. Awful animations, really naff voice acting and a poor story aren't acceptable when you're charging AAA prices and I'm glad EA are getting crap for this lack of effort.

To be fair ME1 opened to middling reviews, but ME2 nailed it.

I'll buy Andromeda on sale at some point. I have it tagged on Amazon, just in case.

The original ME Trilogy is on sale on Amazon for just $16.95. $28.95 if you are on XB or PS4.

More important to me is the oft-claimed poor quality of the storyline and charaters. Thats what made ME so great for me. And from what I have seen so far it is really not up to snuff. A lot of nonsensical dialogue, cheesy lines and bland or inane voice acting. Will wait a bit, no day1 purchase this time...

Yep the original ME story was really what drove me to play the game. That and the animations are better there than they are in ME:A there's nothing grabbing me about this game. Open world until you hit invisible boundary's, explore planets in the galaxy with long intro and extro's (?) to zoom into a planet to scan it, zoom out, zoom into the next one, rinse and repeat and that's a good game mechanic? For 270 xp? I thought ME was always about the story and yet this looks awful.

Some say "but it gets better later!!" So I have to suffer 10 hours first? Coincidentally the first 10 hours you made to be deliberately awful? Why do I have to play the crap first 10 hours free to get to the good stuff? How does that make sense that after 10 hours "it gets better" - what rubbish and only an idiot would fall for that line.

They know they're getting creamed for their lack of effort and to save their shareholders they need to say anything to make people buy it.

My biggest questions is who the hell looked at this a year ago and said, "Yep, we're ready for release almost!!"

And yet I'd rather play ME1 than ME2 anyday. ME2 never felt right to me.

That might be true, but this one is much, much, MUCH worse than that. ME1 looked much better, 10 years... that is TEN YEARS ago.
And the walking animations and body postures.... I don't know what to say... I just can't play a game that looks so incredibly awful.

But why? The frostbite engine is capable of beautiful facial and body animations.
It is like Bioware hired a chimpanzee to do the animations.
I even believe that a chimpanzee might have done a better job.

Perhaps they started with UE and then migrated over to FB, found the animations didn't transfer over but didn't have time to fix it because shareholders come first and pushed out a naff product hoping the fanboys would be enough to turn a profit?

From one of the tech reviews of the game, they mentioned it's a physics driven animation system, and the movement does remind me of the Natural motion Euphoria system used in GTA IV

Doesn't explain the faces though!

If there was some sort of development hell going on as well then that could well be the explanation! I wouldn't be surprised if there's some patching to fix this somewhen soon too.

I only get access to it on Thursday and have something close to a minimum spec machine so I'll see what the scooby is then. FWIW if the gameplay's OK and the story picks up then I'll probably enjoy it. Not going to hate on it until then. [hehe]

The decision to migrate to Frostbite from Unreal engine was most likely EAs influence, probably thought it better in the long term to use an 'in-house' engine.
