"Material drops at settlements provide only one item instead of three. This is intended"

Do. Or do not. There is no try...

Don't be pedantic. It was certainly implied.

More than implied. Sandro actually repeatedly stated on the Livestreams that the objective was to reduce 'grind' and for that matter to reduce 'RNG'.

I should, however, add that in my case, Frontier royally succeeded. It takes me a mere one week of my parsimonious playtime to hard-ceiling a PvP ship on every single module now. Just finished my second one! Yes, a couple of choke-points could need work but overall 3.0 is pleasantly merciful. My Stockholm Syndrome is in overdrive.

I was at Dav's right after the update. I checked and I was getting TWO per drop for data. Which is odd, I don't think I've ever seen 2/1 before. The data point has not been nerfed either, no cool-down.

I went there too, and was getting one data per drop. However, many of those drops were SLFs, which I have the max amount (that's how I know it - you get warning message if your storage for that type of data is full). So I can't rule out the "2 for 1".

Both, however, are wrong. It should always be 3 for 1, except Guardian data, which is 1 for 1. This is confirmed by FD, but still not fixed.

I've not looked at this thread for a couple days, but I am now genuinely confused.

The 3.0.3 patch notes say they are nerfing the material drops from 3 per container to 1 per, yet, we have FDev saying;

Players should normally receive 3 units of both materials and scan data universally (with the exception of the Guardian blueprint scan data, which is only 1).

So which is it, 3 or 1? Is it supposed to be 3 "until" 3.0.3 drops or? [wacky]

Edit: Never mind, I suppose its still too early and I've yet to have enough coffee. It appears that the line in the patch note has been deleted.

Fdev wants to you to work for them as 2nd job!

So, the drops at places like Dav's Hope and the Naptha tankers only yield 1 mat' rather than 3 now?

I can imagine how that went...

FDev release 3.0, which requires people to farm mat's if they want to complete upgrades.
People want upgrades so they farm mat's.
FDev see people farming mat's and think "Blimey! We need to do something about that!" and respond in their standard manner; by nerfing it.

If this is correct it's got to mean we're worse off than we were when we started, right?
I mean, the main complaint about the old system was that it required too much grind.
So they made it simpler.
But added more grind.
And weighted the RNG so you have to grind more of the rare mat's.
And now we're saying that they've cut drop-rates by 2/3rds as well?

That's got to be a net loss.

Yeah, its not enough that people spend most of there time in ED grinding, grinding, grinding, gringing more!. Ohhh no, 3 materias seriously OP. Not enough that there are GAZILLION materials to collect, and god forbid if you had many ships to engineer because you will grow old just trying to get the mats you need.

ED is becoming seriously if not already extremely frustrating to even do anything.

I was staring at the Launch this weekend, thinking if I really wanted to log in.

It just felt like it was monday and I had to be at the office again for RL work.

This is whats going on>

I need more materials now for engineering. Ohh well, ok we need some grinding right.

Need to find HGE for very rare materials. Ohh RNGesus, ohhh well more time I guess, need the mats after all.

I got Aisling duval after a month so now I need to buy prismatic shields for Conda and other ships. Ohh I just need half a billion credits, Lets grind credits.

My friends want to go Thargoid hunting, ohhh well we have to grind for hours and hours on end for guardian weapon materials.

Want to do Massacre missions and kill 243 ships for 12M, sure do you have 6 hours? Wait do you even know how to fight? wait have you even use your ship other than grinding FESTS? Then you have never really played the game...

In this "game", grind is your first name not your second! You want to do any kind of progress in this game, even little bit and FD wants you to suffer ENDLESS hours of the SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

When you take in account, cruising, jumping from system to system, docking, undocking, nitpick missions, material grind, reputation grind, credits grind, engineering, thargoiding, powerplaying for merits and I KNOW am leaving many out, you come to a very disturbing conclusion.

You haven't even learned well how to use your own ship properly, you know if for one ship took you ALL of that time to actually perfect it for optimal use then the name of this game should be changed to >>> ELITE GRINDING <<<<

Now that would be FAIR marketing in the eyes of consumers!

Truth is, can't wait for SC and other space simulators, this is just plain ludicrous that my 2nd job is working for FD instead of having true FUN!

Then why on earth are you doing it?

1. Grind is good for ED.
2. Grind means people have a goal they are working towards.
3. Grind means people are logged in playing.
4. People who are logged in playing keep being tempted to buy more and more things from the Frontier store
5. Frontier Store is a major source of funding for FDev & ED
6. Therefore Grind is here to stay...
[Just don't call it Grind if you're an FDev staff member! ;-)]

I've seen the light and I love it.

I've been playing GTA V online with my friends pretty much solidly for the last couple of months. I suppose you could call having fun and making money so you can buy more things to be grindy but at the moment it's hilariously fun. The amount of LOL moments are pretty much endless and the pacing for money is pretty good for certain things.

Those things are all the businesses which basically unlock all the game play. So if you don't buy cars and all that, you can get through to the game content whilst having a laugh and some challenging gameplay fairly quickly. My next buy is an aircraft hangar so I get those missions, one of the MC club businesses and then I think a bunker is the last thing I need.

On top of that the SCUBA diving and mountain biking is cool, I've yet to see the ghost or the Thelma & Louise scene, still have flight school to finish, there's a bunch of races to do and still haven't finished all the missions then there's the hiests to play through again at least a couple of times so I get to play all the parts and then there's the challenges for those and the world looks amazing.

Or I could be grinding Engineers...

Keep your eyes open while doing the mariachi mission, that's all I'll say. ;)

GTAV is, overall, the best most polished, most complete game of all time. Long may they milk it, they deserve to. I've bought cash in that game twice.

edit: Now that I think about it I'm not sure of the mission in quiestion does have the word mariachi in it. Anyway, it's one of the missions that gives you the opportunity to see the Thelma and Louise tribute, then after that it (and always in GTA Online) it reoccurs at specific times in the same place.

"Then why on earth are you doing it?"
Because I still have many friends who play it, if not I would have quit already.

1. Grind is good for ED.

- Yes, until certain point. NOT EVERYTHING needs to be grinding. EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THE GAME!

2. Grind means people have a goal they are working towards.

-Does that mean that the goal has to last for months? Whats the goal, get your module 40% better? how bout your goal is not my goal? How bout this is not really a goal, is a NECESSITY!
A goal is an accomplishment, if you feel accomplished because you just grinding 65h in two weeks so that you can A grade your Conda then I guess your accomplishments are much different than mine. My accomplishment would be to use my A grade Conda to get to Sag A and rescue a friend in less jumps than need. Trust me it feels better than spending 65h doing the SAME action over and over.

3. Grind means people are logged in playing.

-Ehhh, yeah?! whats your point that if people stop grinding they will stop playing? That is when the game starts for me, I now have the right tool, properly engineered to do and role play different aspects of the game not prepare for it for 6 months!

4. People who are logged in playing keep being tempted to buy more and more things from the Frontier store

-Yeah, well here is a theory! The more ships you have, the more ships you have engineered, the more ships you LIKE flying... guess what... you WILL buy STUFF from the store.
How bout this theory> if you GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND for ONE SINGLE SHIP, you will have ONE SINGLE SHIP, hence very few packages bought at the store. This is actually way WORSE for FD from that point of view!

5. Frontier Store is a major source of funding for FDev & ED

-I agree, then don't make people GRIND their lives in this game for one or two ships then you could have more ships with less of a grind and gain not only more FUN because you could actually spend time roleplaying your ships with friends and FD will gain WAY more purchases from the store do to it.

6. Therefore Grind is here to stay...
[Just don't call it Grind if you're an FDev staff member! ;-)]

- Grind is a part of every game out there, every game with XP and higher tier items, I dont deny this. But there is a limit for the AMOUNT of grinding. In ED is just plain frustrating.

I've seen the light and I love it.

- If you are like me, that has kids, a job and likes space games then you will probably agree that time is limited. This game is aimed for more mature folks imo and most mature folks have lives and work! I understand that this is a long term game, but its absurd to think that because I have my Conda A rated I will stop playing! Its the psychological effect of knowing that ONE SINGLE ship could take you months to acquire and properly fit it for a job that makes you think.... " If one takes me this long, what will the other 35 ships of the game?.... a decade?!!!" What if they come out with a new expansion, now MORE ships you want that will be UNOBTAINABLE!

- If you are like many selfish, retired or jobless folks in here, then grinding will never be enough, why? because YOU HAVE ALLL THE TIME IN THE WORLD, with a joystick in one hand and a coffe cup in the other! Yeah I would also like grinding if I had 8h a day to play!

Yeah well as for the shark cards that's really the only let down but then $70 for one car is about what Chris Roberts is charging for a ship! ;) I still have some criticisms over the game but overall it's a masterpiece and worth it just for the single player - I only started seriously playing the MP 2 months ago which is great because I have all the DLC available to me now as well so getting burned out will take a lot longer.

Hoping they don't quite bug fix Kingdom Come Deliverance too soon because I can't wait to play that as well. I also have Subnautica to start lol
