MATERIAL TRADERS FILTER in Galaxy map IS COMPLETE USELESS

Nah, it's not entirely useless. And I'm pretty sure I've seen suggestions beyond the alleged 40ly limit.

The 40ly limit is in a bubble around the selection cursor, NOT the players ship. So if you move the selector around the galaxy map the 40ly search bubble moves with it.

I suspect the 40ly radius is more to do with network performance than anything else. There's no other logical reason for such an arbitrary limit.

What I don't understand how there are "manufactured" commodities that you cannot buy, but can only be obtained as mission rewards. Currently mission rewards are broken (since 3.0.3), so most of these items necessary for Tech Broker unlocks and Engineering are unobtainable. Even USS hunting is preferable to hours of board-flipping to find a mission with the "right" reward.

I've said for some time that space missions should be triggered by pinned blueprints and offer the required materials and commodities as rewards. That at least would be logical and operate easily within the game's existing framework.

With respect, this strikes me as nonsensical. I don’t think that I qualify as particularly critical of Elite, but the collation and presentation of information in-game is one area that FD have fallen short in my view. It can’t be right that players have to refer to external sites in order to play the game effectively. I can understand the reluctance to turn the game into a glorified database, but considering the fact that we are often required to find systems that meet multiple conditions, there should be a sophisticated and flexible means of doing this in game.

Regarding the case of the new Mat Trader filter, it strikes me as another minor misstep. Apart from anything else, it doesn’t make logical sense. Humanity in 3303 has the remarkable ability of faster-than-light travel (itself a necessary piece of fantasy implemented for the sake of convenience), but it seems to have completely lost the capacity to collate, store and share information. In our own history, the trend has been a steady, exponential increase in this capacity.

External sites are optional, you don't actually need to use them.

Having said that most games now have at minimum their own wiki, accessing them has to a great extent replaced the old game manuals (remember them ?) with the added advantage they stay up to date. There are no games I play where I don't use external resources, in the same way I used to look things up in game manuals.

Say I'm thinking of buying a vulture, but I can't remember it's internal compartments to make an informed choice. I can land at a shipyard selling them buy one and have a look, or I can ALT-TAB to the wiki/Inara and do it more easily. Inara presents the information (if you want it) better than it could be presented in game because it's made specifically for that purpose (and more) and it's all interlinked.

The in game UI is I think excellent but it's primary purpose isn't searching and reading and providing links to detailed information, so it'll never be as good as things made specifically for that like Inara.

Pointless demand for what would be a downgrade.

TL : DR use Inara

What the hell are you talking about? I'm out...

Lets see if you actually manage it this time. I doubt it.

lol, the more you bait me, the more I'll be back showing you how little you know what you're talking about. :D If you think spouting nonsense and lies will get rid of me, you gonna be disappointed.

Inara.cz

The technology broker and material trader types are determined by the station economy, for the mixed economies is sometimes problematic to determine the correct broker/trader type as it depends which economy is primary/secondary and they may be swapped. In these cases both types are displayed, there should be one of them. ;)

Please, before you spout something which is factually plain wrong again, go and see what's actually happening on Inara. Go post a screenshot here of how you would suggest to a new player to find a manufactured materials broker (100% sure it's a manufactured materials broker, based only on the info in Inara).

Then please consider that some of us (in this thread, that's what we're here discussing), would prefer it if the info didn't have to be gleaned from Inara's dubious data, and be int he game.

Can you understand that? Can you see how 'some people' might want that? If you can see that, then you can see how we might want to discuss it? Can you then see how you coming along and saying it's fine amounts to non-participation and trolling? go make a thread saying 'Don't change Materials Broker' if you want the burden of proof on me. In THIS thread, it's on you to explain to us who think it should be changed, why you think it shouldn't. And if we say 'that's not good enough for us' you have nowhere to go. I can already assure you "I think it's fine" will not be 'good enough' for 'us'.

I knew you couldn't live up to being out.

Again, stop trying to tell me what or how to post it obviously doesn't work for you.

Posting more nonsense (I haven't tried to tell you what or when to post in any way shape or form) isn't going to get you what you want (either my leaving this thread or convince anyone that you are right). Stop trying to troll me and address where I've proved you wrong multiple times, or just bow out gracefully.

The info is NOT clear on Inara, where do you go now? Come on, I'm waiting.

You said you were out twice, and you've never proved me wrong. Now you've reverted back to name calling again because you are unable to string a rational argument together.

And I'm still laughing at you [up].

EDIT : LOL at you editing after posting

As you said yourself, I can say what I want, I'm in, I'm out, stop telling me hwat I can and can't post. :p

Laugh all you want (I don't think anyone believes you are. I reckon you're spitting teeth at your monitor, don't worry, it'll be over soon if you actually participate).

You still haven't addressed your own statement "tl;dr: use Inara". That's your bottom line. Inara is not accurate. So what now?

Inara is accurate.

Inara is accurate.

Inara says you will find EITHER a Raw Material or Data broker in (I worked it out based ont he first page of results this time, approx 95% undetermined, not the 50% that you stated, remember?) Magnus Gateway.

So, which is it? Manufactured or Data (I know which it is, it's my home system, questoin is, do YOU? Or anyone else that isn't there right now?)

Are you actually serious?

Someone makes a thread saying it's not easy to find the material brokers and it should be. You vehemently argue they are wrong, and cite that Inara has the information they need. When I prove that Inara only has ambiguous information, you say "that should be enough for you"...?

Welcome to my blocklist. I have far more important things in my life to deal with than forumites like you. lol. Have a lovely day! :) Now who is actually laughing at someone else? :)

If you value convenience you've got Inara, FDEV don't seem to have any issues with external sites probably due to the belief the internet will still be around in 3303. I found mat traders of every flavor near my home system without bothering to check Inara so it's no biggie for me.
As to being something that has to be addressed, why bother when Inara already provides it.
So screw VR, one monitor and console users is what you're saying, yea?

I often have to log out because no traders are shown at all, they all show up when I log back in. Something seems to occaoisnally stop this filter working.
Happens to me too, sometimes they'll reflect change instantly, or close galmap then they're showing when I reopen, sometimes don't show att all (I didn't try relogging, just went to Inara).

Let me see if I understand this...in the 21st century, I can do a google search and find prices, reviews and information about all products, but in the 31st century, I have to actually go to the store, before I can even see a price or product?
No, you're wrong, first you have to find the shop, then go there to find out if it's the correct shopkeeper before finding out he hates all the mats you actually have and have to find the least painful tradeup mats to get what you need.

Mind meltingly stupid!

I never realized this part of it, thanks for that. I'll have to see in-game, but I believe you. It's still clunky as heck, and rolled in with the general problems of finding/selecting anything on the Galaxy map :)

That’s true to an extent, but the fact that so many of us feel the need to utilise external resources highlights the shortcomings of those provided by the game itself. As I suggested, for those of us playing in VR it’s much more disruptive to have to resort to such things.

My main criticism is the lack of flexible, multiple condition filters on the Galaxy map. This is quite easily rectified by providing AND filters in addition to OR. Hardly an immersion breaking suggestion. As for the Mat Traders, they’re too widespread to make finding one feel like a meaningful achievement, so their absence from the Galaxy map just feels like an unnecessary irritation to me (and an illogical one at that).

Thank you very much mate, you've just won me a beer bet. I knew you weren't going to answer any of the direct questions posed in the post you were replying to. ☺

that can't be true.

im currently more then 40Ly away from "Shinrarta Dezhra".
even if i highlight that system, focus on it, and have my cursor there - it neither will show me any of the material traders, nor tech brokers in or around that system, that i already have visited

and there should be 15 tech brokers alone in a 40ly radius around SD...

I reported on this feature's complete dysfunctional status back in 3.0 Beta 1. I couldn't even see the three traders that were hand placed by FDEV for testing purposes even though I knew where all three of them were.

Of course, nothing was done, and the same messed up system made it all the way through Beta and into the release. Amazingly, it continues to exist in the identical state in 3.03.

I guess FDEV wants everyone to use INARA instead.
