MattG's Observatory plugins

I just installed Elite observatory and most of the plugins. It list: BioInsights, Botanist, Codex Entries, Colliders, Evaluator, Explorer, GEC, SignalMonitor, Core.
After starting the game the BioInsights tab only says "-- BioInsights v0.23.328.164 -- CMDR Unknown". I did click start monitor and Read All. I have Try re-load and Read All checked under core tab. Tried restarting EO after game was running, but no go. ED Market Connector seems to have no problem reading char data.

There's an option to set journal path in Observatory Core setting down the bottom, suggest just running through that and making sure it is pointing in the right direction. I'm not sure if EDMC reads the journals to extract player identity data, I don't think it does, your journals may not be in the default path and that could cause issues with Observatory.

I just made that a folder off the folder that I use to store imports. Thought it was a file that it creates. What is the path it is looking for? Because first time I ran it, I didn't set that leaving it empty and when I clicked Start Monitor, it crashed out.

Update, Not sure what happened. I just gave up last night not making any more changes. but I just started EO and without even starting the game, it now has my info....

it's the path the game creates its journal files in, they are what Observatory reads when you tell it to do a read all.

Given the discussion in another thread, seems a good time to drop a work-in-progress screenshot of the next version of BioInsights

Output will likely change before release, but the key take away is: Brain Tree support. I will get the other Horizons bios in too, but probably not before the next release as it's a lot of work and I don't have enough time. To just add Bark Mounds will require me to audit the positions of every (non-planetary) nebula in the game, work out which ones actually have Bark Mounds (not all of them), and there also seems to be 2 areas where Bark Mounds appear but that don't seem to have a nebula so I'll have to work out what's going on there too. The other Horizons bios are equally time consuming. But the important bit is BioInsights itself has support for Horizons, now I just need to codify the rules.

Some of the other features in the next version include:
  • Codex Companion is part of the plugin, no separate download or need to manually update it
  • It should scroll to the right place for your current body
  • Every icon (and certain text) has a mouse-over to explain what it means
  • It'll estimate your unsold biological data value
  • You can pop out the window from the main Observatory window

Can't even estimate when this might be available as it requires the new version of Observatory to be released, but Soon™️

and there also seems to be 2 areas where Bark Mounds appear but that don't seem to have a nebula

One of them has a planetary nebula though If I am thinking of the same one, but the brain tree region extends hundreds of ly around it so it's a singularly almost unique area, like the other one it doesn't have a center nebula to measure outward from to set the parameter. I did map the some of the borders a long time ago so I have a rough idea of the horizontal spread and vertical seems to be most of the galaxy so it's far larger than any of the nebula Brain Tree patches.

That's interesting, maybe it's a non-PG planetary nebula or something then. I'll look at that more when I get to that audit (which should also have the side effect of improving Electricae Radialem predictions too)

Thanks for your continued hard work on this app!

Hm, which two are those areas? I can't seem to find them - the bark mound areas without nebulae, that is.

Update: I just noticed that I didn't add Bya Phlai AA-A h2 to the CGN. Not sure how I missed that, but that's fixed now. That just leaves one mound area then.

Also, on

The reference system positions on the CGN can likely be off, because when Odyssey fixed the nebula bug, the visual centers moved - and the GMP used the visual centers. Of course, not all nebulae were on there, but I didn't check stuff over after the nebula change.

Apologies for poor image quality

That's basically a horrible frankenstein job of edastro nebula map with PNs removed, and the bark mound map. Those 2 BM areas do not seem to correspond to a (non-PN) nebula. Maybe it's something missing on edastro, or maybe something else is going on. The one on right does have a PN nearby (but possibly not centered), and looks bigger than other areas - I think this is the one varonica was talking about.

That's as far as I've got when looking into it. Could well be just missing information on edastro or something - but my point was it's time consuming to investigate discrepancies like this, and also how even in that image there are nebula without BM areas.

Cheers. I've updated my earlier post since then: EDAstro gets the nebula info from the CGN, and Bya Phlai AA-A h2 was missing from there. Now that I added it, it should appear on the map at the next update. Gonna look into the other one then.

Found the cause: the Blaa Hypai AA-A h68 nebula's reference system actually pointed to the Blaa Hypai AA-A h55 nebula. Fixed that too, they should appear separate on the next map, and that'll be the mound area.

Been having an issue with BioInsights recently - Everything else in Observatory Core works fine, and I've been getting notification popups from BioInsights, however on the actual UI there are absolutely no entries from my current system. If I Read All, a large number of systems I have used with BioInsights in the past populate the list, but absolutely nothing current.

This persists through a reinstall of BioInsights, and Observatory Core. Both standalone and installer versions of ObsCore.

When I changed the settings to "move current planet to top" or move to bottom or whichever, and then cleared the list, DSS probing a planet placed the separator entry (the empty entries of dashes) but not a single prediction was shown. It is extra odd since I have been getting notification popups (such as "May host a marked biological"), but the BioInsights UI shows absolutely nothing.

No idea what on earth might be going on there!

Try the following. In BioInsights Settings, tick the Enable Verbose Logging option and then let it do another Read All. Once that completes, visit some more systems where the UI doesn't update but that has Odyssey biologicals (and ideally had notifications too). Then in BioInsights settings there is a button "Open Plugin Folder" (not the one on Core settings), push that and you should see BioInsights.log - DM that to me on discord so I can take a look (pretty sure I've seen you on IEA discord, but otherwise you'll find me on Observatory discord)

So, did some more hopping around and messing with it to try and isolate the issue and create some clear logs, and it has suddenly been resolved. I am thinking perhaps whatever issue I had was actually resolved with a reinstall of Observatory Core, but I didn't actually leave the system I was in during that reinstall. It was definitely an issue I was having, but I believe the reinstall of the entire application appears to have fixed it because now upon scanning an undiscovered body with biologicals, it is populating correctly (once I jumped to a new system). Upon returning to the previous system, it has worked correctly as well.

Commenting again to ask if it might be related to fleet carriers? I fleet carrier jumped and then hopped into SC at my new stop, and the bug is back. Jumping in and out of the system altogether populated the results. It might have been that I was just only checking when using SC from a carrier jump? If this is intended behaviour, then that would explain what is going on.
