Maximum loan amount waaay too low!

The loan is there to step in when players are on the steep learning curve, once players understand the system they can choose to keep enough to cover the replacement insurance....or fly without it. Nothing needs changing.

Holy cow guys! How about laying off the poor guy, even experienced pilots make mistakes... I'm already on my 2nd Cobra thanks to some player nuking me right in front of a station. As for the loan limit being increased... I'm all for having a loan just for the base model of the vessel you previously had and a larger chunk being taken out of your profits until the balance is paid off (about 30% instead of 10%), but it should be a one shot deal. So if your ship goes boom again before the loan's repaid, you're stuck back to square one in the old sidewinder. That would give players some relief, but would also force them to play more conservatively as well.

At least, I think that would be a balanced approach to it.

Why is it ALWAYS an Asp?

The loan amount covers my Cobra and then some, and that's with A FSD, A distributor, Advanced Discovery and Surface Scanner, and I think that is a pretty expensive set up, and means I know what I am doing, but I am still covered. When you get to an Asp - make sure you have the money to cover it, make sure you didn't trade in your last ships that got you there, that way if you lose it, you can get it back. By the time you can afford an Asp, you know how it works, you know the dangers of the game, you know the insurance system - and you make the choice to hit that Launch option or not.

I'll agree with you on keeping a secondary ship. I have my old eagle parked in Sol and it's rigged for bounty hunting, but it's nice to know that I have a backup that I can fall back on in case I can't afford the insurance on my cobra, and at around 36k... I can afford to take quite a few more hits.

NOPE

Learn to get it together, get your insurance sorted out, get your basic trade amount sorted out and don't move out those limits. I didn't even know you could get a loan. I think that particular feature should be removed as soon as possible. This aint a game for the faint hearted, if you disagree then move along, nothing to see here. I wouldn't be happy knowing that most of the community were playing on 'tick' when i had worked my ass of to staying safe. But then again your attitude keeps you in a sidey and gives me loadsa bounty so carry on :D

Well... if we're gonna go this route instead of trying to have some discussion on balancing it out for both sides... I knew damn well what I'm getting into and I've been forced back into the sidewinder myself a few times. I refuse to take the loan personally and prefer to start over. I learn from my screw-ups and try not to let it happen again. As for people getting larger ships and not having enough creds to cover insurance... well take what comes with. I'm not crazy about giving out hand outs, but if Frontier wants to be able to attract a new blood, some balance is gonna have to be struck.

However, if you wanna play hardcore, go ahead.

Now as for comment about my attitude keeping me in a Sidey? Hah, keep dreaming pal. I'm working my way up, slowly, but getting to an Anaconda. My play style may not be 'run and gun,' but even I prefer to have 2x the minimum amount of creds required to buy a ship. That way, I'm not stuck in a sidewinder grinding it out.

Booo hooo hooo "i can't get what a i want without working for it" Booo hoo hooo, oh no i creased my pretty dress.

Yeah. I have noticed an awful lot of very smug people on here "I've never got it wrong, so it stands to reason I'm infallible, and not likely to ever make a mistake". or "I have never got it wrong in THIS area, so I can smugly talk as though I never make mistakes of ANY kind."

Aren't you putting words in peoples mouths? Nobody is saying those things.

There shouldn't even be a loan.

If you needed one, you screwed up and that's your own fault. Press 4, see if you're able to pay your insurance and decide whether to leave the station. If you did it anyway and you didn't have the money, you're a newb.

But no one is saying that. What they're saying is, "if I look at what the rebuy on my ship is worth on my right monitor, I can see how much money I need to have to rebuy it. Directly above that is how much money I have. If I subtract the rebuy from how much I have, the result is how much I can safely spend without endangering the status of how much I have available to 'loan'. If the result is a negative number, then I need to downgrade my ship to something cheaper, or downgrade some of the modifications I've made to something cheaper, until the result is no longer negative anymore. That way, I never get screwed on ship losses."

Point of note, saying "I never screw up" =/= "I'm infallible and perfect and '1337' and godlike'. What it actually means is, if you're paying attention to your financial state, which is very easy to do, you won't screw up, and also, as long as players exist that it hasn't happened to, then you become an example of what not to do. It's that simple.

In other words, they're not saying they're great or wonderful etc etc, they're saying you're bad. Hopefully you've learned something from this and will get better though...
