Engineers Medium Security Settlement List and Guide for Modified Embedded Firmware

I was unaware of this game feature until I read these posts. I'm having a go but I am not having much luck - I'm pretty clueless at this, to tell the truth!

Anyone direct me to an idiot's guide as to what to do on these bases?

EDIT - OK I got a Core Data 600K Credit package - but I was looking for Engineers data?!?
I have a big-big-big and boring manual (40 pages) in russian=)
Ok, in order to get data you must scan a chain of "data access points" (DAPs) in a settlement "bigger-than-tiny" (there are at least three of them in any settlement this big) - a minigame with limited time to do all the necessary scans.
DataPoint looks like:
On the "welcome" page of my main mapping spreadsheet you can find some videos in the "External resources" section

Thanks. I was hoping for a 'quick' method to grabbing some data...looks like this method isn't that straightforward after all! Especially if I have to learn Russian :p

Ah I tried the spreadsheet to get myself to 40 Ceti bases - it's excellent in scope and content. However, I didn't see those links. I've tried one which was confusing...but now I see one by Artigan and I've always found his videos top-notch.

How on earth do you know where all the data points are? Do you have to learn them for each base? OK, I'll be quiet and watch more videos. Thanks.

there are ONLY 54 different base layouts in the game ;) and only 45 of them are bigger-than-tiny in size=)
on the page "ED:H 2.1 MAPS" of the above mentioned spreadsheet you can find the links to the maps of 51 layouts=) (yes, with DAP locations)
all links and helpers are also available in the same document (and map legend).
You can read it like this:

Great write up OP, repped.

Thank you. I've been planning on putting some time into data scanning and thanks to you, now is that time.

This was a god send whilst crafting 5 G5 OC multicannons for my Python. Thank you so much OP.

What are the forum rules on going through OP's entire post hisotry and repping all of it?

Just little info: looks like CDT terminal bug survived 2.2 update, as many other settlement related model issues. It's been a while that I have not updated my issues summary for settlements models (and I have no beta access waiting for FD to propose it for free=))) ).

Important:
For all "base runners" - there is a site created by Cmdr Haps - here
- that can be more suitable for planetary base farming, better then my own main spreadsheet list. The data there are the same (however I don't know the period of synchronization with my list). A very important feature there - "visited" flag to mark up scanned bases. Also provides distances to location you have selected.

2.2 news

1) CDT "pause" bug persists (as I've said before), but also CDT is nerfed (no more 500K, just ~ 10-20K creds).
2) looks like data yield statistics has not been affected by this patch (thanks FD)
3) SRV turret (and jump) now affected by NPC ship proximity the same way as by your own ship. Beware of this as it can be very disappointing. Looks like a new kind of bug.

3) I have not noticed anything different. I can drive, jump, scan with turret without any problem .... please clarify what you are refering to ...

Before 2.2 only external "camera" behavior was slightly affected when you try to do screenshots or video from an srv, if your srv is in the near proximity of a landed npc-ship (as one that usually resides on the "landing pad" in planetary settlements, for example). Now the thing are aggavated - if you go in the nearest proximity of the landed npc ship (in your srv) you turret is forced to retract and you vertical trusters are also blocked.
To illustrate - here I'm trying to scan a HUB terminal in a medium scientific base, an npc ship parked on the PAD just aside of me.

Just been flying around Brooks Keep +++ [Medium Security] on Sh*tici 4A (Hah! Filter!). Looks like a military layout, variation #2. Have no SRV bay so can't land but someone may want to check it out. Useful as it's not too far from Wolf 357 and Tod 'The Ballster' McQuinn. There's also a low sec site in that system too but am on errands.

Cheers, CMDR Farinton

Also Gibson's Claim +++ [Medium Security] on Bielonti B6. This is an industrial layout, but note that this one is about 70,000Ls from the Nav Beacon, but again, close to Wolf 357.

Ahh ok that one. I had the problem yesterday that I flipped close to my ship and wasn't able to turn
back onto the wheels. Had to send the ship to orbit ...

Thank you, I'll add them to the list.
As about L4M2 - good for winged up commanders to have some fun in base assults. However for retrieving datamnaterials for most solo-players it is not a safe base to scan=)

Wow, excellent work, Commander.
However, I cannot add this to my own db-lists, as they are heavily based of full layout description and filters relies on them.
But you can add this to EDDB.io - there only security and size matters (at least for now), and parameters can be omitted if unknown.

+rep
PS: as a reminder, the "approachsettlement" event in the new journal log can hep for all of us to fill up the gape in the settlements locations (while it provides only name/size and no security/layout).

1) the nerf is really odd. I got 5000 for scanning a core. This is a nerf by factor 100!!! someone really must be smoking dope ....

All of the income-generating activities in the game have been heavily nerfed with 2.2, but the amount of the nerf is variable depending on the source of income. The CDT scans seems to be the hardest hit in terms of having around a 100X decrease to their prior value. The Sothis/Ceos incomes, which were presumably the main "target" of the income nerf, have been reduced by around a 10X decrease and it looks like most of the other mission incomes have been affected to a similar degree. The only activities that look somewhat profitable in 2.2 are the passenger delivery missions, but to get a high payout many of those have ridiculous long travel distances such as taking a passenger to Jacques which is over 20k ly distance for 300 million credits. That works out to around 15 mil/hr if you're travelling very quickly at around 2000 ly/hr (which is a 30 ly jump every 60 seconds) but to reach those speeds you're essentially doing a buckyball run with a transport ship which is harder to do efficiently when you're carrying passengers due to the extra weight penalties and the limited internal space in most long-range builds.

In terms of data drops, fortunately the MEF drop rates don't seem to have been affected in 2.2 so far but I've only done a few base runs since the 2.2 patch. Incendiary multicannons however have been nerfed again with 2.2, most notably by removing the 20% kinetic damage that they previously retained after applying the incendiary modification which was what kept their effectiveness high against hulls. They are noticeably less effective against hulls now due to the loss of that kinetic damage and ship builds that rely on putting incendiary rounds on a few larger weapons (such as a Vulture) have taken a hit in effectiveness as they can't take hulls down quite as quickly. The incendiary rounds are still a useful weapon although on larger ships with an array of multiple small and medium sized weapons I'm now starting to use more than one corrosive mod instead of going with only one corrosive and the rest incendiary rounds. The extra damage from ensuring that the corrosive damage buff is continuously applied seems to be somewhat more useful now as the incendiary rounds aren't really optimal against hulls at present.

...
As it long ago become not only MEF-oriented thread I can only admit that I've decided not to reset statistical data after 2.2 update, as old rules seems to work as prior to 2.2 (same as for 2.1.05). Nothing really new about settlements - old modeling bugs seems to be inherited, CDT nerfed. However I've heard about some increase in settlements defenses capabilities (DPS/distance?) but have't checked this.
Once again many thanks to commanders DarkArren, APEC, LIY and all other participants for their help.

Did 3 run in the settlement in the files (70 opiuch - Krugher and Kokayry) and nothing!!

Neither a single modified embeed :(
Normal.
If you take a look on this live statistical data then you'll see that statistical drop rate for MEF from medium security settlements hardly attain 0.5 SEED/settlement visited. And this means - I must underline, from statistical point of view - that you must visit at least 6 bases before starting to complain. (1 SEED = 3 MEFs)
Otherwise - it's an RNG thing.
