Engineers Medium Security Settlement List and Guide for Modified Embedded Firmware

Cheers for this - it's CIF I'm after and the first two sites I checked got me 12

Even though the list is described as being a guide for Modified Embedded Firmware it's equally useful for Cracked Industrial Firmware and Classified Scan Databanks. In fact I usually end up discarding most of the CIF and CSD that I get now when I'm looking specifically for MEF on base runs as I currently have more of these mats than I need but regularly use up my MEF modding more mutlicannons for new ships that I buy.

With the mission rewards being borked right now this list helped me a lot. Along with another list I've raided almost 70 bases in the last few days. Thanks a lot for posting.

The second last entry in your list is wrong. HIP 53537 - A3 - Fidalgo Survey. It is Dukaj Settlement on that body you want. It's only 300km from Fidalgo.

Yeah, CIFW is even worse because so many mods use it. BTW, you can also get it from the small 3 data point settlements, sometimes....

I am not getting that high of a drop rate. At the moment I did 5 Exploration layouts and got 1 MEF but I am actually looking for Cracked Industrial so no problem there just like to mention the lower rate.

Try this list of settlements (below, top), it drops both CIF and MEF at a rate of (for me) about 50-60 of CIF and MEF every couple of weeks. As seen in the diagram (below, bottom) all the settlements are the same type, only 4 points to scan and several minutes to complete. Good luck. o7

Many, many thanks for this list!

I have had so much trouble collecting CIF's, but today using your list as a reference I have had much greater success. Overall I collected 48 CIF's (not quite 50, but pretty close!), in a little over 7 hours. I didn't need the MEF's so I discarded them (collected 45 in total however), but I have put together an excel list with all of the data types I did get.

In addition to only having 4 data points to scan with no walls to climb, or secure areas to get into, the settlement is small enough that you can get your ship within 1km distance. Having your ship not take off makes the collection even more efficient. I don't think I have ever had more than 12 CIF's in my data storage before, so this is awesome!

I did notice a small error: Mitchell Survey was actually on planet 9a, not 9c

you ditched 45 MEF?

Sacrilege!!!

I hope you have a hole in your ships Mat storage and 47 of your CIF's leak out! ;)

I swear that Palin has it in for me. I have burned through all of my CIF's only to get a slight upgrade to my Python's thrusters, and unfortunately not my main ship of choice (AspX), so they might as well of fell out of the cargo hold.

The problem is i'm trying to get not only high optimized mass, but low power draw (I'm already right on the edge of my 4A plant's capability), as well as a negative mass secondary roll so I'm trying to beat this:

Both the Optimal Mass & Optimal Multipler are pretty average, however the mass reduction, low power draw and low thermal load make it a pretty good drive for my exploration AspX.

The upgrade I got for my my Python:

Much better in just about every way to my AspX thrusters, but the lack of a negative mass secondary, as well as an increase from 8% power draw to 11.6% (which is still pretty good), make it not quite good enough to replace it.

I have had such a bad run with engineers lately (must be around 30 hours of grinding for upgrades now), with 0 upgrades to show for it. Being able to get any upgrade at all (even if it not for not one of my primary ships), is actually a relief. :)

Your rolls are pretty good for that Asp's drive. To get a negative mass secondary is nice, but what does -0.37T do really?
Anyway, you can get small increases to power with g1 low emission PP mods, if you haven't done that already it might help your power situation.

I had another look and you are right, it does looks like I was making far too much fuss on the weight reduction (only an increase of 0.05LY).

The reasoning for the low power usage was also pretty crazy (so I can have the frameshift scanner on without disabling any subsystems?, and the only subsystem that is disabled as a consequence of the higher power consumption is the heat sink launcher...so will I be using the heatsink launcher and the frameshift scanner at the same time, hmmmm? )

The only remaining advantage then is the thermal savings, which does seem to make a difference while fuel scooping when I compared thrusters with ~94% thermal load to my current ones with 53.9%; but 70.5% is closer to latter than the former, so if the heat increase isn't too bad to deal with, they might be the new replacement thrusters for my AspX.

In any case i'm rather surprised why I didn't look at my requirements critically earlier, thanks for the advice. :)

Any tips for Sawyer Beacon on Kokary 3.

At 1.95G I'm having a spot of bother getting up top for the first data point.

Never mind - made it!

Sawyer Beacon is really only on the list for historical purposes and for most players it's not worth attempting. I had included it when we had only a limited number of bases and weren't sure when they might reset so I was motivated to try every single base that could give out MEF rewards. It took me quite a while to get up to the base and then a while to get on to the roof and with enough effort it can be accomplished but it isn't really worth attempting given the large number of "normal" bases we currently have listed on the ED Pathfinder tool. I just keep it on the list as an example of a "challenging" base that can still be completed if you're sufficiently motivated and it does serve as a good test of your SRV driving skills.

haha, I have like 20, but will never ditch them because of how much hassle I went through to get even the 6 I needed to upgrade my Asp & Cobra before early in engineers (lost 5 ships in one day trying to assault high security bases-d'oh!).

Yes. Don't do it. It's really not worth the trouble.

I finally ran out of MEF again (I had gotten significant quantities from the Palin missions in Maia) and have gone back to doing base runs. So far the base drop rates appear to be similar to previous, I've gotten one MEF drop from each of the first three bases I've visited.

Doing missions out of Jameson Memorial in Shin Dez has got me over 80 MEF! i ditched 20 of them as i ran out of room again in other items i was collecting. Wish they were transferable, i'd let you have a load :(

I got a similar amount of MEF by doing the Palin Thargoid missions in Maia but I recently ran out again and had to go back to base runs. I've been rolling a large number of overcharged mutlicannons looking for specific secondary effects as these won't be obtainable once Beyond launches. I've updated the OP mentioning these issues as it may well turn out to be more efficient to produce overcharged multicannons now rather than later as the new system is likely to involve an even longer grind to generate mods.
