sorry, if i would find it dishonest i would have said 'dishonest', i preferred a more nuanced term that included the possibility of mistake or lack of reflection. i do think there is a bit of "
pretending that one knows less about something than one really does" involved but, oh well, it's probably not the right word
Let me guess, it sounded really good.
how do you know? there are several ways to organize space to cater for all options. some bad, some good, some genius because they would allow for these extremely different play styles to coexist and thrive. coming up with an orthogonal system based on 'everything is allowed everywhere' simply isn't genius because it doesn't work. saying it is means either disregarding the options that get trampled by it for no reason, or simply not wanting to think about it, ruling out a possible solution and ignoring the knowledge gained in multiplayer gaming in the last few decades. you really think 'disingenuous' is not appropriate here? what other term would be? asking for a friend who is not a native english (speaker).
Ironic you're asking a non-native speaker.
See, I am saying it's genius (well, brilliant is actually my choice of words, since it's closer to what I am mean), because it does work for me, brilliantly. This is due to the kind of gameplay I like. My knowledge of multiplayers in the last couple of decades was that it's a cesspool of certain individuals who like nothing more than telling others what to do unsolicited. "You can't enter this system!", "why not? I paid for this game.", "I am the grand ruler chief captain sir fancypants, and this is my system!". "No it's not". "Yes it is because I can shoot you up".
And the only remedy known to man to prevent this sort of interaction: git gud. In other words: play this game exactly like I am playing, or even more condescending: here's a little bit of space you may enjoy while we have fun in the rest. So ... yeah, no, pass.
Now Frontiers remedy is the option to opt out of this sort of interaction, but still leave the content of the game available to you. Which is exactly the reason I object to OOPP. Yes, I feel PvP CMDRs should have more content to work with, but it should be content geared towards PvP. Like CQC, but incorporated into the game in some sort of war scenario for instance. PvP content that's exclusively for PvP players makes sense to me and that would be genius to those who enjoy that. I wouldn't begrudge them their fun.
So, I see it as a perspective issue, where the subjective matter of how one enjoys a game, determines whether he finds certain solutions "genius" or rather "brilliant". It is genius for me because it's the one thing that made me be able to play Elite the way I prefer for years.
edit: I got it. The better word(s) is(are): really something. As in: "praising it as a genius idea is just ... really something".
