Menu logging

Before everyone starts reaching for the block button as a solution, bear in mind that instances can involve more than two players. If there's 7 players in an instance you'd otherwise be joining, but one of them is a person you've blocked, net result will = you don't join any of them.

So expect to be seeing less groups and being more & more on your own if you use the block, possibly to the point where you might as well be in solo.

If you want to be selective about who you bump into, use the private group function, that's what it's for.

TBH if its a) someone who has griefed you or b) someone who has been a nuisance and combat logged on you chances are they keep bad company, so block the lot. [haha][haha]

Private will pretty much always have less players in. Block away, its blazing your own trail after all. (not blaze it based on what others want you to do).

When the game finally drops on PS4 I plan to play in open and will just see how I enjoy it, if I don't I will move elsewhere. I can see the appeal of open to both people who want PvP and who don't.

Anyway, the discussion about it is opsolete since no one can anything do about the PvP Player and no one can anything do about the Combat loggers.

Yup, which goes back to play how you want to play, not what others expect you to play like.

I'm supposing at some point in all of this interminable debate, FDev will realise that their non management of the PvP part of this game will drive away players from both sides.

All the cries for a PvE open mode will satisfy no-one since... for want of a better expression...it would just be mimicking Mobius. Ideally, what the general player of the game would like to see is an open where aberrant or antisocial behaviour of any sort is punished officially and driven out of the game, or at least made less attractive for the attention seekers, leaving us with the Nirvana of an open mode for all.

90% of the strictly PvE players (like me) who I've spoken to would love to have proper and effective RP Piracy, unfortunately Mobius can't allow this to happen since there will always be some special snowflake types that will set out to abuse it.

Some day... *sigh*

While I agree the notion of a PvE open for PC wouldn't work, it would be an extremely welcome addition to Xbox. The requirements to join Mobius on Xbox is something many people don't want to deal with or even know of, while on PC the knowledge of Mobius is much higher and PC players would be use to such requirements. A PvE Open mode on Xbox would work out alot better than the current Mobius PGs. Both of which share many members and still rarely have more than 3 or 4 players on at the same time (although there is the usual spike after an update while people check stuff out).

Sure a lot of talking out of both sides of the mouth here.

Combat logging; wrong because FD has said it's cheating.

Menu logging; wrong despite FD saying it's not cheating.

Whatever happened to the old pirate fallback, "play your way"? Is it really just "play your way, unless your way conflicts with my way"? "Play in a way that I deem correct"?

Lo, the torrent of salt, is it abusing the game's mechanics? So is piracy. Taking advantage of the lack of consequences on both sides. You're playing piracy, where you have practically consequences or restrictions, but your targets have everything to lose and no guarantees of outcome, and if they still play within the rules of the game it's not fair somehow?

What's next, are we going to see threads like this about people high-waking? Is that also unfair?

No, high-waking is fine. That's called playing the game.

Arn't people already talking about this? I have to admit knowing nothing about ED until I read up and watched since the PS4 announcement (I played the original in the 80s on a Spectrum) I didn't even consider PvP with respect to this game, it seems to me a lot of the revolving arguments seem to be on PvP.

Blaze your own trail unless you don't like PvP then you must live in solo (or PG) and stop polluting the pirates "pure" PvP game. It comes across as really salty.

I am looking forward to playing PvP in the future and I assume we will have this same argument when everyone is combat login on me on PS4 "NOT FAIR!" :) (or just smashing me in the face)

(I guess what I don't truly appreciate or understand yet is if you are rich in the game and can afford rebuys, why bother CL'ing anyway. I could "slightly" understand people who can't afford a rebuy thinking "oh ...." but I won't hopefully be putting myself there.)

Blaze your own trail guys o7

And menu logging is also a part of the game.

You're going to have to draw a distinction where things in the game are "acceptable" and not, if you're going to be going on about people doing something that's totally in line with the rules. That's an entirely inconsistent application of logic.

It's always a good proper laugh to watch people playing pirate complain about the rules and what's fair so much. The irony is seemingly lost.

Remove the gankers and you also remove the combat loggers.

It may seem simplistic, but both under the bridge troll types feed off eachother with no repercussions for either type of behaviour.

It's down to FDev to remedy it... maybe the new history log in the comms panel has something to with some sort of approach? If it logs contact with other commanders in game and time stamps them as it does in the current beta...
I meet loads of folks both in the beta and in the current live version. Since I play in Mobius, we don't have the issue with gankers or combat loggers excepting the odd invasion of unruly children... we do have PvP at CZ's and res sites, but we don't have RP piracy, which is a big miss.

I like the new history log... but I can't for the life of me think of it's purpose outside of the multicrew aspects, looking for crew etc... Maybe it has another use outside of that entirely.

Maybe it does, players policing players. Obviously we cannot post here about gankers but with this knowledge an outside resource could be made. Maybe if some of the worst of the gankers were them selves ganked they would reconsider. (but probably not)

Note: I have no issue with with someone engaging in a fight if it is fair. ( had a fellow attack my python in his sidey the other night, he was a fine pilot with some nice engineered weapons. He lost but we had a nice chat and a few laughs afterwords)

On topic, menu logging should not be allowed if you are in danger and mass locked. You should have to either get out of mass lock or out of weapons range. I mean seriously, you can high wake out of most any situation. I understand the door bell, phone, wife screaming madly, but! I do not expect this to change though and there is nothing that can be done about the cord pullers.

i have a diabetic son and have had occasions where i have had to leave the game mid fight iv let my self get killed rather than log out as i hate it so much when it happens to me

The main issue with the Mobius PG's... or any PG on the Xbox is that they require an individual invite from the moderator/group owner to join. I was a member of the Mobius X EU PG which boasted a mere 64 registered members on Xbox when on occasion, I played in it. On PC, you click the application from the main menu in ED and you're automatically invited. The stricter limitations of Xbox live mean this isn't possible on the Xbox.

Contrast that with the main Mobius PG on PC which has the maximum amount of members allowed for a PG at 25,000. I play on Mobius PvE... which has a mere 14,500 members.

There is a new Mobius PG in the works, Mobius Colonia (or something similar), set up for those who have made their home out there.
I meet an average of a dozen players in Mobius PvE every session (beta included)... just generally flying around the bubble and not just at CG's.... which is more than I ever met playing in open mode on the Xbox... even at CG's.

I've no doubt the membership will run into the many thousands too.

Another problem on Xbox for Mobius in particular is that they need you to apply on their website (unless they have changed this since my joining), which for an average PC player is fairly common. Xbox users however are not use to this for the most part and expect it to be right there in the game. Also, Mobius' "advertisement" likely primarly came/comes from these forums, which I'm willing to bet there is a major difference in the percentage of the population of Xbox users vs PC users that vist here. Those plus the other things you mentioned really diminishes the probability that the Xbox Mobius PGs will grow to any significant size, which is why I believe a dedicated PvE open would make sense for Xbox. Although, with how many times Mobius has had to skirt around the PG limit (with the newest one nearing capacity if I've heard correctly), it might be time FD starts looking at it for PC aswell, or at the very least make PGs more accommodating for large groups such as Mobius.
