Message to Frontier - ITS SO DAMN OBVIOUS!!

Wait a minute... I've done combat, trading, exploration, mining, missions, passenger transport, bounty hunting, engineering, science, surface prospecting for minerals, fooling round with friends, flying my ships, and driving my SRV, which has all been a lot of fun and I STILL haven't found this activity called "grinding". With over 4k hours in this game you would have thought I would have found it by now.

Can someone please point me towards where I can find this activity called "grinding" so I can see if it's as bad as some people make out? Thanks!

Isn‘t it adorable? Another rant where the OP is starting with listing „the facts“ (because he has them!) and in the first of the „facts“ he listed we‘re getting a note: „might be wrong, but...“.

oh my...

What is it with people who want to tell FD what to do that they feel compelled to go overbaord with CAPS LOCK!!!!!!

I'm sure its possible to make a point without excessive use of caps lock. Or maybe that's just me.

So OP, no, reducing the "grind" doesn't guarantee more people will play the game, especially over the long run. It does guarantee to attract more casual players, which will probably be good over the short term, but not sure about the long term. More casuals would tip the demographics, and more pressure to make the game easier, i could see a snowball effect happening then. And assuming FD gave into those demands, it would no longer be the same game that I backed.

At the end of the day, you don't have to get everything quickly, and personally i don't think it should be possible. Same with many games, there has to be time and effort gates to progress to have some sort of progression, otherwise you might as well do away with credits and materials and make it a pure sandbox. Again, not the game i backed.

Play the game, the credits happen anyway, and enjoy the early game. There is no rush, unless you force yourself to rush.

Ah nothing beats a good old fashioned vein popping, coronary inducing rant :D

OP I have a question: Please describe this gameplay you want introduced to negate the grind. Don't forget it has to fit into the Lore and BGS, and be acceptable to all three modes and all the different playing styles and occupations in the game?

M00ka, I think you're wasting your breath. This is just a hit and run.

He's not the kind who thinks enough to come up with good answers, only rants. Heck, this ones not even good at ranting if you take way the CAPITALS and profanity.

Sure. But only if you dont make me eat a plain old boring custard cream, over and over and over and over again. Ok?

Your complacency is staggering. I've been living in a country with no custard creams for 15 years. Don't know what you've got till you lose it, as they say. :(

I would grind for just one custard cream.

We understand the need to gate progression. What people are saying is make the mechanics *fun* instead of repetitive chores.

So who defines what 'fun' is? As we have seen, there are some who don't find any grind in the game, and there are some who find everything a grind. What is the right amount of activity that is required before it become repetitious? For some, having to do anything twice is one time too many, some evidently feel they don't have to even do something once, it should just be given to them (or they can buy it with RL money).

Because of the way this game is designed, one person might call exploration a grind (stupid jump, honk, jump) yet praise the mechanics of mining (wohoo, I just shot rocks for 4 hours, got 500T of gold). Even combat can be considered a grind - oh drop in to a RES, shoot boring NPC's all day, this game suxs..... Even PvP could be be considered a grind, if your target or attacker doesn't CL at the first sign of losing.

Can FDev do anything about this - of course they can. There are too many tasks here that are just plain dumb, the Dave's hope multiple scan thing is a classic example. But I hear a lot of bleating about grind but I am not reading a lot of solutions either!

Oh I knew that as soon as I hit the Post button. I ask that question a lot here, rarely do I get a response (except a snarky or belittling one) and on the rare occurrence when they do put forward a solution it is nearly always tailored to support their individual gameplay with no regard to anyone else.

I just wish all us smart people in the forum (me included) weren't so compelled to respond to rubbish posts like this! We bump all the negative posts and completely bury the positive ones! Yes, there are actually many positive ones. I makes the forum look way more negative than it really is!

Alternately, I wish there was something Frontier could do which would keep the positive post higher. Not sure what that would be but...

Grind is in the Mind.

Some might decide flying 1000 jumps out to the Galactic Rim is "grind" but I'm relishing the prospect, stopping off at various planets along the way, hopefully get my Elite in Exploration and the funds to start crafting a powerful combat boat.

All games require "grind" even the platform titles of years ago when you got stuck on a level and had to repeat it numerous times until you either cracked it or gave up in frustration.

If you want instant action go and play Doom, except oh hang on - see previous sentence above when you meet the same mid-game boss twice in a row except the second time you have no weapons, no health, no hiding place and after the tenth attempt on easy level, rage quit and never come back.

One mans grinding is another man's meat & potato. I did 2 hours driving on a planets surface yesterday (and got stupidly excited when I found Polonium (for the Mats Trader natch)), yet I would (and do) despise mining, which I find dreadfully grindy and more boring than train spotting (which other people seem to enjoy). It's almost like... people are different.

Also, these complaint threads would probably die off a lot quicker if the usual suspects didn'y jump in to defend the games honour over and over and over again - surprised not to see Eagle Boy* and RLSG** in here yet. Fdev would see the one page complaints thread, maybe make a note of the perceived issue and everyone would get on with their lives, like shooting the ever constantly spawning enemies of HazRes', fishing the asteroids or driving for hours looking for strange and interesting rocks (roll on .4).

o7 Commanders.

No one is here because they hate the game, they just want a better version - very few people complain about the the ships or flight dynamics... RNG: Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure! Grinding the utterly pointless naval progression: Kill it with fire! Orrery! More persistence, better economy, more space stuff less pointless addins (eg Powerplay, CQC, multicrew etc etc etc)...

There are a lot of positive posts here, just they quickly get jumped upon and the OP's labelled 'fanbois' or 'white knights' for daring to say anything good about the game.

Remember it is much easier to rubbish something (with no proof of course) than it is to praise!

Which I guess is PR speak for "yes, we've seen all the hysteria, ranting and gnashing of teeth on the forums" :D

Despite all the comments about caps lock, the point about grind is valid.

Frontier could add content that doesn't require engineering/exploration/trading/combat grind.

Despite the comments, parts of the game are locked off behind grind, like PvP for example. So, if you set yourself a goal, you're more than likely going to have to do something repetitive that you don't like doing.

And CQC isn't an option either.

Is it. Every goal in the game is chosen by the player. How you go about getting those goals is up to the player.

You do it in the quickest way possible and grind out the same mechanic in a row to get to your goal, or do it the long way. The choice is yours.

The game is all about choice. You choose to grind for something, don't blame the game for what you have put on yourself.

So exactly what content would you like added - that will stop all grind?

As for PvP, I was under the impression is was all 'mano v mano', the best pilot wins, are you now saying that if someone doesn't have the best, most engineered ship available then they might was well not engage in PvP?
