Met My First Hacker Today

small point that isnt hacking learn some proper terms
It's not hacking another computer or server other than his own, but that does not put it outside the definition of hacking:
Hack: use a computer to gain unauthorized access to data in a system.
"they hacked into a bank's computer"
Whether it is another's computer or their own, by agreeing to the EULA they have agreed they are not authorized to alter the data that they are altering to make this happen. So technically, my terminology was indeed "proper". You may be used to using it in a narrower definition, but that needn't restrict the rest of us just for your sake.

Punctuation a waste of time? Wow...Let's all take a moment to reflect on the irony of such a statement coming from someone trying (incorrectly) to nitpick definitions.

On a positive note though guy hacking is now backtracking saying he isn't, so knows his game is up as well as his number, hope he enjoys permanent solo.

Not sure this was a hack. If you equip a fighter correctly you can spend a lot of time, many minutes, surviving a station attack.
You believe a viper, properly equiped, can survive sitting in one place while the station concentrates all internal turrets on it for over 5 minutes? And you believe said viper can do this without its shields dropping at all? And that said viper never needs to reload its missile launchers, but can just spam an endless stream of dumbfires? Without hacking? Really?

No, no you don't believe that. Thanks for commenting though.

I haven't experienced anything like it so far, but then again I tend to lurk in less populated areas. But to hear this happening is kind of expected. As being said before, it is practically impossible to prevent hacks in game heavily dependant on client side and based on P2P network. Only (relatively) cheat-proof solution is pure server-based architecture which leaves almost nothing to client other than to be a slave which will show only what server tells it to show (like in EVE or World of Tanks, for example).

Best FD can do in these circumstances is to react to reports as quickly as possible and to impose zero tolerance policy for hackers. Perhaps to add some additional telemetry as well to actively hunt for client-side exploits. Otherwise, game reputation can be hurt immensely.

@Blaeringr

It is _not_ a usable hack/exploit/cheat/whatever.

This strange person gets killed every time he "teaches lessons" to other players. He doesn't care. Read above, he already spent 9+ mio cr on this.

After losing more than 2 mio cr on his "teachings", I bought a disposable sidewinder and got into the station: There he was in a viper, shooting another loaded ASP. Station reacted and killed the asp... and killed him. He doesn't have the time for docking, loading, hacking... he dies. Every time. And he doesn't care at all.

It could be so easy, as said before: Repeat offenders get punished by the pilots' fed. Matchmaking gets a lunatic algo to filter all the socially impaired and pair them with... birds of the same feather.

Multiple complaints, people wasting time standing guard for this "hero", reaction from Frontier: weekend. Nice.

I decided to buy a cheap Sidewinder and go back to George Lucas Station to see if I can spy on the situation. At least if I get blown up it won't cost me much.

You and me both, saw you there earlier. I've only just looked at the possibility of the CMDR concerned using a hack.

always die is a lie, i just saw the subject of this thread leave the station taking heavy fire from it while being chased by two SAV's and jump away to SC. i was half a second from getting a screen shot of him with full shields and 100 percent hull when he jumped.

the same person also messaged my while i was in SC and invited me to the station to meet them:

Friend Andy!
come to gorge Lucas
let us meet!

i have a screen shot of the message but decided to honor the forum rules and not post it.

Oke go try it yourself do not kill anyone but just make the station shoot at you use chaff when thats almost run out use shield cell bank if not escape yes you die but you be suprised how long you last thats all remember i die every time cost me already 9mil but my viper is cheap to rebuy station keeps killing me but after the countermeasures i got to much time yes agree so fix it i can stop doing it yes but loads others keep doing it shooting inside the station whit dumbfire missiles hope the next update fix it all and there is no change shooting inside the station.
We are not allowed for "Legal Reasons" to name you. However you CAN tell others on here who you are in the game so they can avoid you if they wish to.
I am sure someone who isn't a cheat would be quite happy to reveal thier identity.

Lol, so after all this, it was no cheating!? Sounds to me like a text book case in griefing though.

When they nerfed the Python, the gave the base shields to the Viper...

Hmmm. I'm no expert in this area, but if it is possible to do this, would it be possible to mess with faction influence as well? For example, changing the number of missions you are turning in or something similar. One person could easily mess with a large group of players working together.

I read Andy's post and he said it as he explains. Mitch you've misinterpreted it. The guy was a cheat and still is. That isn't going to change. This argument gives the child his lulz. His justification ws so childish I nearly sent him to bed.

A word of warning to anybody tempted to download a piece of software claiming to hack the ED save to allow modification of the bank balance and other parameters:

DON'T

It's a godawful piece of malware, you may as well phone someone in Russia and give them all your money.

No problem at all, I was silent running and at risk. I've been following the subject CMDR for a lot of this evening and intend to do so for some time.

He does seem to react badly to someone sat watching and recording his antics. I offered no defence and his brightly shielded ship had no issue removing mine.

I hope he keeps doing it, it should build up a nice lot of evidence against him - NVidia Shadowplay can be very useful ....

First of all, good on you for having the guts to actually get on and face the people you nailed. Me being one, my own fault, of course, because I stopped paying attention after no one shot at me in the station for a good 20 or 30 seconds after landing. Will keep my finger on the shield cell binding form now on until I am in the hangar. But I digress...

Secondly, that's a cheap, gutless move you pull, no idea what you get out of it, but it takes all sorts.

Third, I don't think the guy is cheating - I did return to the station after being blasted the first time, though about going in to mess with him, but decided against it - however, I did see him get blown to bits by the station a couple of times, I sat outside the station with him targeted, an dhis shields and hull did take damage when fired upon.

I've seen NPC ships take laser fire for extended periods, because most of the shots are not landing - if you sit in the right place in the station, you can survive for a fair while.

Not defending his actions or anything, but *I* did not see anything that looked like cheating on his end last night. Being a , on the other hand...

Doesn't mean he isn't, of course, just didn't see it myself.
