Met My First Hacker Today

What people don't understand is just how bad this is for the game. Idiots hacking like the OP are not a problem in the long run, sooner or later (usually later) they do eventually get banned. These people ruin your night but not the game. Those who ruin the game won't sit in a station tanking it while attacking you. No they will give themselves slightly increased damage, turning, whatever, enough you can't just PROVE they were cheating, and if you try to say they were people will just tell you they were better than you are.

How do you ticket that, how does FD prove that? They can't. Games with far more server side have been hacked to hell. Games I've played with that...

Dark age of Camelot - (if you didn't cheat at that one, you had no chance at all)
Wow
Planetside 2
Day Z
COD (any of them)
(insert any mutliplayer game here)

Unless EVERYTHING is server side, which would never work in a game like Elite, you will have hacks. Ticketing is not a solution.

Even egames style games like Counter Strike, with ALL of their anti-hack stuff, recently banned a top player group for... get this... hacking!

Personally I think FD should just focus on making a good game for coop and solo play, ban the worst of the offenders and not stress about hackers because its a losing battle. If some new piece of technology is out there that can detect this stuff reliably, great, but I know of no such thing as of 2015.

FD should go after cheaters with zeal, but only when they are sure they've spotted cheating. CMDRs here have a tendency to blame lack of skill or a bug on cheating. I completely support anti-cheating policies and functionality in the game, as long as it doesn't punish legitimate CMDRs. But to ignore cheating, signs a death warrant on the game.

Your story isn't believable at all, and it sounds like it's more of a bug than a player cheating. Rather than assume it's a cheat and threaten FD, wait on the result of your submitted ticket. I haven't seen any credible reports of hacking in ED yet, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Your story just sounds far fetched.
His story is totally believeable and your lack of situational awareness is regrettable.

Several have been banished to forced Solo for cheating. More will follow. Some hacks have been plugged. More telemetry is being recorded so investigating differences between client behaviour and what the server records will lead to more bans.
No hacks have been plugged, and there are no server records. You are wrong, sorry.

Not true, persistent ip addresses are quite common. My ip address has not changed in years (I use DNSSTuff regularly in my work) and i reboot the router often. I have not waited half an hour, I must look at that, but there have been times when the router has been off all night and still have the same ip.

i think you missed the important phrase in my post 'Most ISP's' - not all of them, but a lot of them.

Well, this P2P connection can be a mess. If you have a port open with a direct connection (no server in middle), you can hack the connection and access to the other computer, right?

EDIT: I know there are no secure connections, but you have to trust that the client encrypts the connection.

No. UDP is connectionless so there is nothing to "access" on the remote peer. Data packets are encrypted, even if the encryption is not exceptionally strong, but then no encryption in the world is going to be of any help if you control one of the endpoints. It should be safe enough against "third parties".

Google search for it and you will find people talking about use hacks to auto-grind in combat zones, etc. I doubt they are all lying.

Found a bunch of very questionable sites that ask for paypal/credit card, lol. Found no actual video evidence of any 'hacks' working on the current live build. Also, a program that auto grinds for you in an online game is called a bot or a macro, not a hack.

Also, 'just google it' never, ever, EVER counts as evidence of anything.

So no evidence then, just baseless speculation. Gotcha.

Since I can't link anything here I'll just say it's forum posts from users bragging about their hacks, not some guys trying to sell you rootkits. So search harder. Inability to find the evidence yourself means there is no evidence. Gotcha.

You can't just throw accusations about without evidence, or whats to stop anyone claiming YOUR a hacker? Even though I respect the view's of some who have posted in this thread, i'm not willing to condemn without seeing it.
Hackers need exposing, but part of that is hard evidence, video capture is not hard and a lot have shadowplay option.

You don't think they may be lying to encourage others to give their credit card details in the hope they are not lying?

This sort of thing is way older than the internet ;)

Look whom I found lurking for prey in Lave Station.

IMHO improving the defenses and consequences for deploying hardpoints and using them in stations should be adjusted dramatically. IMHO a station should be a safe place. Though I reported and earlier incident (reported the player to FD) from today, where I just got blown into peaces by a Viper pilot, who was posting in this thread too, with his dumb-fires.
Anyway, I don't see any "hacking" or use of "exploits", as described earlier in this thread. Even though I think the game behavior gets exploited by the players.

Usually they would ask for money BEFORE telling you what they did and exactly how to do it. But whatever, just stick your fingers in your ears and go lalalalalala....

The Giant spaghetti monster created the world in seven days, just google it. If you can't find the evidence, you aren't looking hard enough ;-)
Also, no one ever lied on the internet, especially when it comes to bragging.

Finally, if you want Fdev to actually do something, and you know where these hackers are operating (e.g. Lave/Leesti) grab some free video capture software, record it, and post the evidence to youtube and reddit. That will be far more useful to everyone, players and devs alike, then the usual Call-of-duty 'haxxor' claims.

We're all more than happy to believe you, if you would just provide a single shred of video evidence. Why are you so defensive?

TBH i'm rapidly developing the opinion that once you enter the dock hardpoints should no longer deploy and if deployed already they should retract. i can see a few people moaning about this idea for reasons of immersion and realism but its way better than the alternative.

This 100% - Hacking has been a huge problem in most major mmo releases lately and it has people paranoid. Look at it like this - most of those games have been f2p and if they get caught they just create a new account. That doesn't work in games like this and if you get caught hacking you are pretty much going to eat the cost of a new game if you want to start fresh from the sound of it.

Just report that idiots location, change in solo mode and let him die from boredom or from manstrubating.

Yeah, i wonder why it is possible in invert a masslock but not a wappon lock.

i've had a google and looked at some of those hacking sites, they offer cheat programs from $5 to $30 a month, if someone is willing to pay half the cost of the game to cheat banning the account won't do a lot of good as the'll just get another - the phrase more money than sense fits perfectly here.

Sometimes I wonder if some people in here are cheaters themselves trolling for lulz.
