Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Thought people might be interested in the following snippet from today's MSFS 2024 press release (pre-order live announcement):

" ... And because landing just about anywhere in the world is one of the key features, due to the much more detailed environments, the development team worked closely with partners like Frontier (creators of Zoo Tycoon and Planet Zoo) to introduce many species that bring the world to life."

I trawled through the MSFS forum about this and it seems there is as yet no official word if there is an option for "Offline Mode" (like there is in MSFS2020). It isn't mentioned in today's press release either.

P.S. There is a Developer's Livestream next week (Wed 25th Sept). :

" ...
we have been collecting the most frequently asked questions from the flight sim community, and we’re very excited to start answering some of your top requests for more information!

As always, we will also be taking questions from live viewers during the event. "

Maybe there?
Cheers for that. I'll keep my eye on it.

I had this video drop in on me today and it made me realize quite how badly FDEV are treating their customers with the exorbitant DLC prices in Elite Dangerous - this magnificent aircraft, complete with multiple liveries is available for the approximate price of a pre-built "jump-start" arx-store ship. Sort of underlines my disillusion with Elite and why I have not loaded it for weeks. Such a shame, I so enjoyed Elite for over 9 years until this turn of events.

Time to buy a new PC for MSFS2024 launch in November I think....

Can someone do me a solid, is there any news regarding MSFS 24 being 'always online' or not. I've been reading what little snippets I can find on my potato internet, and beyond proclaiming loudly how much is going to be 'on the cloud', I cannot seem to find any actual answer to the above.

I sat through the dev stream tonight and they were questioned specifically about this - they would not say the words "online only" or "no offline mode" but it was pretty clear that you need to be connected to the internet to play the sim. Lots of prattling on about cloud-based stuff, no (or very reduced) running cache, only downloading what was actually needed, on-screen warnings about slow connection or no connection - but they couldn't bring themselves to say the sim would then shut down or terminate your flight.

I see that if I was in the US I could buy the Aviator edition of 2024 (the all-singing, all dancing one) for $199 but in the UK I have to pay £199 which is about $260. Isn't it about time that this $ to £ sign change for pricing got banned?

EDIT - It has ben pointed out that the UK price includes VAT - the US price is before taxes. So it is not that bad but still comes in over 10% more expensive in £.

Shame about the always on line thing. I'll keep my eye on it in case that changes.

I think that is a lot of money for a game, I won't lie!

Yeah, but the basic (Standard) edition is £70 and that comes with 70 aircraft and 150 bespoke airports. Is that somewhere near the going rate for AAA games?
Yeah, £70 standard edition sounds reasonable to me, just observing that the Aviator Editions asking price seems a bit steep (note: have spent way too much money on DCS)

M$ have released the video of the Global Preview Event they held at the Grand Canyon in September. The full presentation is here:

P.S. I forgot to answer this:

Heh. I see the Westland Scout/Wasp is listed in the Aviator Edition as a flyable Helo.

Better have a wheels option... no skids on my bloody flight deck!

Yes it is wheels and you can configure it with flotation gear etc - it flies like a pig and I can't get it to use the so called Stability Augmentation System. Mind you I am a tyro as far as choppers go so maybe it is just me.

I wonder if any of the Planet Zoo fans will be tempted into trying out MSFS2024 since (as explained in the presentation I linked above) FDEV have been brought in for the provision of animals throughout the MSFS world:

Only a month to go now, I'd better start building that new PC to run it. LOL

Well the release must be going ahead on schedule as M$ took my payment today.

I only just came across the MSFS website features on peripherals, the latest one was very interesting, I wonder how many laptop simmers would be interested in this very portable product:

Looks interesting, and would definitely be better for me than having to pack a Thrustmaster in my grip everytime I join a ship :D

Is that all it is?

No - it is nothing like a RC controller, it is more closely related to a game controller. It is specifically designed by the guy for flight sim use. A look at the MSFS site link I posted shows this and the Yawman website is eve more informative:

This quick video demonstrates it:
