Two airplanes I heard that physically hurt me were Concorde (just over the fence at Heathrow) taking off and an RAF Nimrod also on takeoff from Dyce in Aberdeen. Coincidental they use variants of the same engines!

Felt like someone heavy was trying to sit on my chest...

Yes, Concord was noisy. Many (many) years ago I was at college and the campus was under the approach to Heathrow so it came over regularly and low. Very cool.

More recently (probably 10 years ago now!) I saw an F-something (a US navy jet) at the Reno Air Races. Incredible machine and very skillfully piloted. They had it almost stalling flying low along the runway then the pilot turned the nose up and gave it everything it has which was a lot and it shot straight up like a rocket. That was very loud... :)

I once saw an English Electric Lightning go vertical over a runway and then supersonic along it. I could only have been 12 or so, but I'll never forget it.

Similarly I vividly recall seeing a Vulcan fly in low over a Welsh beach. Again I was quite young, but I knew that an uncle flew one, and knew his target should the balloon go up..... knowing now that he would have nothing to come home to, and he knew where they would likely ditch. Horrible but simply his job.

This is on-sale (-20%) at the moment.

Having missed the last sale I've jumped in and, at the current rate of download, should be airbourne early in the new year*.

* 2024.

Edit: in the end it took around 10 hours.

The new avionics update is great. Took out the TBM 930, perfect VNAV descent to intersect an RNAV approach. Nice to see the sim getting better with each update... ;)
It is getting better it just inconsistent sometimes still. I am getting the problem again where I don't HEAR ATC but see the message and when I respond I can HEAR that. These are minor issues though.

Still 'playing' the sim, and despite some glitches it's great fun, and each update seems to make things better. I really have enjoyed the avionics updates. And the graphics have improved for me, even in VR. Just flew from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas in my go to TBM - fast enough to go places, slow enough (for me) to land successfully... :p

A couple of screenshots, they're not terribly good as I play in VR so they are pretty low res from the two eye view on the desktop. But when I look around when flying, that awful word 'immersive' does seem to pop into my head. :)

The new engine was needed as the current core is based on legacy FSX code and that wasn't multi-threaded either.

There's been a real hoo-har surrounding 2024 and feeling MS have reneged on their commitments. I don't think so and am looking forward to the release. Today though I just use Hype Performance Groups Action Centre/H145 for all the Medivac and firefighting stuff...

Well as an old old fan of MS flightsim, I'm looking forward to get my hands on the 2024 version, I still have my flightsim rig in boxes as I needed to relocate it and never got around setting it up again, but this is one of my goals for next year.
