Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

You know it is a real aircraft I assume. For Americans that think jet-skis are for Chavs?

I just landed the little jet-ski with wings on lake Windermere, brilliant fun, but man did it pee off the locals.

(highly unrealistic weather conditions!)

Good to know, will try. What I also couldn't figure out is to set a detailed flight plan, is that done in the map screen or somewhere else? (I should probably just google it!).

Set departure, destination then on the drop-down select IFR low or high airways:

Correct flight plan is generated and displayed in the Nav Log including altitude profile - on entering your cockpit you will find the flight plan has been inserted into the FMC automatically

You can select the STAR (or leave it as automatic - ATC will decide) you can select the SID too or just leave it as direct - I don't think ATC issues or vectors you via a SID.

- or if you don't want to fly IFR you can select VFR using VOR-to-VOR rather than the default offering of VFR GPS (direct).

Incoming.

HCS are doing a VoiceAttack for FS2020. May be of interest to some folks. Is to me.

So now we look forward to the confusion over VA for voice attack or virtual airline. ;)

I don't think I will fall down that rabbit-hole again, was with BAV for many, many years until they got so far up their own backsides that you would think they actually were your employers. Ran a regional VA for flying routes mainly in Norway but even that became more admin than fun.

Broke down and pre-ordered a Reverb G2 today. Been quite happy with the Index over the past year, but I'm going to twitch for months if I can't play this for a while after they add VR support. Their gambit worked!

HCS needs to give Bill another call for a second Flight Simulator VoiceAttack pack.

More questions:

1) How do I change my ATC voice gender? (still waiting for a "this is the way" answer rather than guesses)

2) How do I get rid of my copilot in 3rd person view? I want to fly SOLO!

3) Is there any way to save my callsign and tail number? I'm tired of reentering these every single time I go on a new flight. Perhaps a .cfg file somewhere?

4) Is there any news on easy-to-use scenery editing tools being released anytime soon?

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable the possibility of malfunctions? I know we can start several types of malfunctions manually or set a timer for them to occur, but it loses all the fun, and removes the troubleshooting part, if I already know it's coming.

Next question - what is the best flight simulator forum to ask my previous questions (and discuss FS2020 in general)? Obviously a sub-thread on the Elite Dangerous forum isn't the best place to get the answers I'm looking for now and in the future. The two forums that come to mind are www.flightsim.com and www.avsim.com. I don't want to have to manage a dozen forums, so if I were to pick just one, is there a clear winner?

Suck 'em and see. 🤷‍♀️

I come here because I like the layout and the people are generally OK. I've no interest really in E: D nor any Frontier game these days. But I think I have an account on both of those forums as well.

In the malfunction screen turn them all on, arm them all, and set them from 0-x minutes. This means it is random, and the higher X is the lower the odds of it happening. So 0-60 means it WILL happen within an hour. 0If you fly one hour every day, setting it to 0-43800 means it will malfunction randomly once every year or so.

Options->General->Misc->set yourself to the pilot of your preferred gender.

I am a bit biased but I would say that AVSIM is the most useful of the fora (if you don't mind a dead guy's picture all over the place). There is a "sort of official" one at https://forums.flightsimulator.com/ but it doesn't look like it has found itself yet.

It's great having the entire world to visit. But it's also the entire world, and it's easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of awesome places you could visit... where do you start once you've done your home area & various holiday locations?

This site might be useful to some.

What you say is true, but... it's still not gonna be a fully true realization of the planet. In my part of the world, for example, I doubt it's gonna be able to properly represent the hoodoos of the Superstition Mountains or the Chiricauhua Mountains. I expect the Superstitions will look better than they did in MSFX, but they'll still be lacking some important detail. I also have my doubts it will faithfully reproduce the Arches National Park either, although I think it's got a better chance than those other two.

And that site's definitely useful, but... :) again for my region, it's only mentioning two locations when there's so much more. Something I expect will be corrected over time.

Just my thoughts.

That is exactly what I wanted, a very low chance something bad might happen so that it takes me completely by surprise whenever it does (y)

I expect anything that depends too much on vertical detail won't be rendered in any way that does it justice based on satellite images, so things like arches or waterfalls are definitively out for the most part in terms of fine detail.

But anything a bit more expansive is still for the most part breathtaking.

Take for instance the Bromo Tengger Semeru national park in Indonesia, one of the world's many, many, many absolutely spectacular places that (almost) nobody ever heard about: https://www.indonesia.travel/gb/en/destinations/java/bromo-tengger-semeru-national-park

Flew over it in the game, as while some finer details are not mirrored, for the most part it was still mighty impressive, and light years ahead of anything else on the market:

Here's an bonus one, now approaching Mount Tambora (well what's left of it):
