Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

I wonder how they properly set up an aircraft with 1000 surfaces that measure the airflow. Surely some deep aerodynamic modelling is required to set it up.

Pretty sure the flight model is "hacked" as a config file from FSX where the model comes from imo, it doesn't feel hi fidelity as far as flight model goes.

With all due respect for modders who share their work with the community out of the goodness of their hearts, I'll rather wait for "official" or at least very well-polished aircraft is released, even if I have to pay for it.

It's just plain impossible that a modding team can come up with a detailed, realistic(ish) physics aircraft in a couple weeks, or even a couple months. And flying detailed, realistic(ish) aircraft is why I love flight sims. Installing semi-functional or non-realistic aircraft in a game like this feels like I'm tainting it with "hackware", that's why I was always very wary of installing any unnoficial aircraft in X-Plane 11 and others.

While I would love to "fly" a C-47 and other historical aircraft, I would love to fly a C-47 that handles and feels like a C-47 is supposed to handle and feel (whatever that is), that's the true beauty of flight sims, to provide a realictic(ish) depiction of how it would be to do the real thing.

Until then, I'll stick for this C-47 (when it releases), as I already know these guys will deliver top notch work like all their other aircraft: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/il2-bos.511113/post-8678430

Still waiting on my FSEconomy account creation. They're extremely overburdened right now it seems, and are struggling with DNS issues on top of their clunky manual account craetion.

Anyone know of FSE alternatives? Looks like FSE has been around for a decade, and I'm sure there are probably some other things out there that scratch the same itch for missions/aircraft ownership/etc.

If somebody showed me this picture like a year ago and said its from a flight simulator I would just laugh:

Today you strip the ivory and fly to China to sell it?

There is something I discovered when fiddling with settings and later confirmed by few sim users:
on some Nvidia systems you can drastically increase the performance by switching
TEXTURE SUPERSAMPLING to OFF and relaying only on TAA Anti-Aliasing that apparently does the job for the other function with out taking at least 10-14 fps away.
Just sharing this as it let me push the visuals even further with Buildings/Trees settings when I got few fps free.

There is a whole world of Virtual Airlines out there. Lots of different takes on the idea - from the casual, have a go when you feel like it to the dedicated, this is almost a real job stuff using real-world routes, procedures etc. I don't know if any of the major ones will be running with MSFS 2020 yet since their are real issues with its "simconnect" system* which no doubt the various VA's flight-logging will need to use.

A page about them (with links):

Here is a page on VATSIM site which can list their partnered VAs:

* The simconnect thing is a pain as I believe that is what is holding up a release of FSUIPC and for example the Logitech flight panels won't work with 2020 due to the simconnect issue leaving many of us having to fork out for the SPAD.next prog and it's annual sub (not happy).

It is all very well having a gorgeous feast for the eyes but there is a lot that needs to be sorted in MSFS 2020.

So I was looking up FSeconomy and saw some people on reddit talking about On Air, looks pretty cool. Anyone here have any experience with it? https://www.onair.company/

It might be brilliant, but it costs money. FSEconomy is free. So, hard pass from me. 🤷‍♀️

I'd rather wait until Asobo add a game to it natively, which the developers have said they plan to around the time of the Xbox release. So probably not that long to wait really.

I'd love to see something like this working natively in the game, a bit like Euro/American Truck SImulator kind of gameplay. Or at least, much more bush trips.

They're still hiring mission designers, so they're definitively up to something: https://www.asobostudio.com/careers/mission-designer-mfs-72

They said in a livestream a few weeks back that it's coming. They want to release on Xbox for obvious reasons, but they don't think a pure flight sim (with no game) would do well on that platform (possibly for equally obvious reasons), so they're working on it.

And yes, a truck simulator type addition would be awesome. :)

I've heard rumors that they're working on missions or some kind of game on top of the sim. That's awesome! I really hope they do something cool.
As for OnAir, since I'm still waiting in FSEconomy account creation limbo I decided to give OnAir a go. If you register with them you get a week free, so at the very least it'll keep me occupied until I get my FSE account. OnAir is definitely the slicker product from what I can see. The interface is much nicer than FSE and the integration with MSFS is very cool. I appreciate the very detailed management sim that OnAir have created and I can see myself enjoying playing the 'air freight tycoon' role for a long time. It's exactly the kind of activity that I would need on top of MSFS to give flights meaning.

From what I can tell OnAir and FSEconomy are very similar in what they're doing for you, with the biggest differences being A)Price , B) Age of codebase and active development, and C)Size of community.

FSE is a 15 year old product and I'm not entirely sure how active development is on the core product. Their GUI looks dated though, and their website and account creation process is real 'spit and chewing gum' level. But.... it's free. OnAir, by contrast, has a very modern look and it was a snap to create an account and dive right in. But, you have to pay. I've also heard that FSE has the larger established community, which makes sense given it's been around the longest. I suppose if you really want the MMO aspect of a management sim (renting/buying other people's aircraft and doing their missions) then FSE is the way to go. OnAir is more solo.

I should get my FSE account today or tomorrow if their progress in working through the backlog holds. Then I'll be able to compare properly.

I've been flying with FSE for over 13 years now in four different sims, it's awesome. It is free though and run by a group of volunteers so some patience is required every now and then, but the board are good people and they do a fantastic job of keeping this free online community running.

MSFS + FSE is my game of the decade, and I'm serious!

I can't wait to try it out! :)
Are you in a flying group in FSE? Are they accepting new pilots?
