mining missions in sothis are trap

picked up one giving 24millions credits for 224 samarium, okay i went to scan system and notthing, there was some belts but none had samarium, checked ceos system and found void opals, low temp diamonds alexandrite on another system found tritium hotspot but no samarium. i checked like 39 systems and none had samarium, is it possible to buy it from somewhere/someone ? i dont want to abort the mission because fine would be astronomical and would blackhole my reputation i worked on..

someone can help me how to use inara? tried look for samarium and did find but places where i can sell it but no places where i can buy it i think....or im doing something wrong.. theres no metalic rings around sothis at all. most systems checked near were either rocky or ice.

For info Samarium isn't a high value metal so a Metal Rich ring might do instead of pure Metallic asteroid ring. It sounds like you might need to watch a mining tutorial if you haven't done it before, but it s 100% worth trying and at least knowing how to mine yourself, you'll learn a lot about the game - and you'll make more money.

Since we have Fleet Carriers now, it's actually possible for other people to do the mining, and for you buy it off them, for a price. If you want to do that, here's a link to INARA for you to search commodity and location (top right) and you want EXPORTS, ports (fleet carriers, as no ports do) exporting Samarium. https://inara.cz/galaxy-commodity/

yeah buying from robigo would be heart wrenching 150k piece. inara isnt also updated often. robigo instead of 150k had around 102k for 150k per one.

i know how to mine asteroids, its not problem. problem was finding any samarium at all, so will simply buy it

thanks anyway.

At 102k credits per ton you'll make a profit but at 150k you won't, that's a 10 million credit loss.

24,000,000 divided 224 is 107,143 credits, your break even purchase price for one ton.

reminds about me when i picked up some missions to mine methane clathrate... never again :)

Honestly I usually mine first then sell what I've got in the most favourable market, checking the mission board first and treating missions as bonus if there is one. Lucky dip style.

found some cheap material in deciat and few other places but amount they offer is small but price is acceptable 14k for per one isnt bad theres 70 of it. theres another for 33k a piece and 37k a piece. thats better than buying for 100k a piece or more. problem i see that inara is outdated. is there any other ED trading tool that has updates?

From what I recall that's pretty common in tritium hotspots. As others said it sometimes comes down to local knowledge and experience.

I also heard of some people stocking up on mission commodities in their FC. Then they find missions that suit and deliver.

cant buy samarium in deciat, carrier docking denied. they may have no large pad or denied at all.also alot of gankers, almost had rebuy screen, evaded 3 player interdictions had no cargo yet.

Be careful in Deciat. It's one of the most-trolled systems by 'dangerous' folk.

It's not really Inara's fault. These tools all depend receiving upon up-to-date market data. Sometimes it takes a while for market data to propagate / update because there aren't many players visiting systems / stations AND who choose to use a tool that reports the commodities pricing data. If CMDRs chose to use EDMC or other tools, this could happen more quickly / more often.
If you ever get into any BGS activity, you'll find that these tools are valuable for helping the team make relevant, timely decisions about strategy.

It's also useful to be aware of the 'freshness' of the data that you're seeing. On Inara, this is reported by the "Updated" column (usually to the far right of the page display). In EDDB the column header is an image of a clock. If the data you see isn't recent,* you may be disappointed by available supply or pricing inaccuracy.
The recent balance-adjustments to this game also mean that if data is old, you'll almost certainly be out of date - possibly by a significant amount!

EDMC = Elite Dangerous Market Connector; a companion application (PC) that reports commodities pricing. It doesn't track or report your movements. It's quite helpful.

* "Recent" is not a definitive term. It depends upon amount of traffic in the system and (of course) how long ago the last update occurred, combined with how likely it is that visitors to the station wanted the item that you want. Sorry I can't be more specific. It takes a little while to get the hang of this. In general, these tools are very useful!

I do, among other things I have got at the moment is over 1200t of Samarium, the only problem is I am about 38,000ly out from the bubble:)

do u mind selling some samarium to me? i browsed locations from inara and im suprised that only few fleet carriers had it for sale and very small amounts but price range between 25k and 40k. the robigo sale of samarium is pure joke, had to travel around 5000LY across all locations,in one case the carrier that sells was not even in system. .. deciat carrier wont let me dock to buy it. theres some samarium i would take.

@Esteban i downloaded that program but as above, samarium is probably most hated material. hard to find place where to buy.

samarium i got from carriers - 92
samarium gained from mining - 36 (would get more but limpets were on strike and they suicided on asteroids)

still need some, but would buy like 300 more samarium just in case another samarium mining mission show up.
