Elite / Frontier Missing persons ads

yes, iirc. the names are of people looking for transport elsewhere in the galaxy... so in system A, there is a person looking for someone who is in system B, who wants transporting to system C.

so you could go to B (assuming you knew where they were) pick up the person and pretend to take them to C, but instead take them to system A and turn them over for extra cash, assuming you could get them to pay up front.

i once hired someone as crew then noticed there was a missing persons ad for them on the board so i helpfully told them they were on my ship and instead of thanks i got told 'your lucky i dont contact the police!' or words to that effect.
so thats gratitude for you! last time i ever help anyone :D

It just seems like there's so many names foating around for me to keep up with. I'm impressed the game actually keeps up with individual people on different planets like that.

Are the search-ees always in the systems the bulletin boards say they were last seen in? Or is there some real method to actually finding these people? I'm intrigued. I've never fooled with those listings before.

If I were to get my reputation high enough to get full pre-payment from taxi jobs, take a charter, and start delivering my customers to their searchers, will that affect my reputation at all? Sure would be a sleazy thing to do though.

Well that's the Elite universe for you, dark and morally ambiguous, its your choice how to play the game and that is what has always appealed to me about the series. No nanny state "prime directives" here.

Has anyone ever successfully answered a missing person bulletin board ad?

Yes, all the time it works, the ones who people are looking for are the ones usually paying $13000 to get them the hell out of dodge. If you sell them out before taking them into your cabin, they remain on the board and no ill done against you, but if they are in your cabin and u give them up, it hurts you.. Think of it like an anonymous tip from a narc.

You'll usually only find missing people on the same board rather than from other systems, however I HAVE twice found the missing, and got my $100, when the person who they were looking for was NOT in the current system, rather the last one i visited.

Never found one of the missing people, I always forget what there name was or never paid much attention to them, too busy trying to sell my smuggled goods

If they say somthing like "I'd rather someone didn't find me",
I demand payment.
If they don't pay up front, I don't take them.
You'll only ever get stiffed on payment once,
And then you'll demand payment too.

And not everyone being looked for is there on that Bulletin Board,
And not everyone desperate to leave has someone on the Board looking for them.
