Mission Playthrough Q&A - Quick Notes

Umm, no one slightly concerned by the chilled out AI base defenders?

If they lack anything in skills (and we don't really know yet, this just one scene and the livestream did talk about AI troops of different abilities and levels) they seem to make it up for it in numbers, as well as skimmer back up.

I get the feeling that if you were on your own and the alarm goes up, you're going to want to be out of there fast. Looks very easy to get pinned down to me.

Those were all low tier guys apparently:

They certainly seem to show as '1' in all these screenies:

Guess we’ll see if the upper tiers are any better.

Nice. I'm sure this will mean on the basic level higher tiers will be faster to react and a more accurate shot. Whether they have a higher "AI" only time will tell but I'm also pretty sure the same way as ship NPC's have developed up and down since game release, the AI won't be a static thing and it may depend on how things play, how development goes forward .. and whether you end up with snipers, hidden behind buildings with a clear line of sight to you while presenting no target for you to shoot back at. In fact if they really are perfect soldiers and there are hundreds of them too if could end up as an impossible nightmare lol.

Okay, there‘s hope then, maybe these are low pay, poorly trained ‘didn’t sign up for this’ types. I’m aware I’m also bringing my despair from so many previous games to this.

Perhaps, as someone mentioned in another thread, the CM’s aren’t always known for their skill in game so maybe easier level npcs was a wise choice just to show off some gameplay.

PvP will still be the hardcore mode I think.

Do you remember when NPC's were hyper buffed? Most of the playerbase was stuffed. NPC's will likely end up at a median level that hopefully presents a challenge to most players but won't be unbeatable. Probably a bit like the game now, you'll be able to set your own challenges, "fight your way in and out alone" but I think it doesn't necessarily require super clever NPC's to present a duck and cover, check the corners type game. Numbers are also on their side.

Why did they have to kill the workers? Couldn't they just knock them out? I mean, those workers had families to support, children to feed, and relative that will now mourn their passing. Man, this is a dangerous universe. Pun intended.

I certainly hope there will be non-lethal take downs available. That would have been a great opportunity to show it though..

Looking at the screencaps above, man are those NPC info things bad. They're massive, ugly, and the choice of how information is displayed is bizarre. The health bar, the important bit, is microscopic, but at least you know you're shooting at JAINA MCCLURE.

You take no issue with cutting power to a settlement on a inhospitable desert planet, probably completely alone, leaving them to a slow miserable death . . . and you're worried about ending an NPCs life instantly with a gun? We got a philanthropist here!

"No, no! Don't shoot the engineer, just knock him out. That way he won't hear the choking gasps of his suffocating children as the oxygen generators fail."

;)

I really enjoyed that. Its a pre-alpha and not only that I'm sure there's plenty they are holding back for future reveals, hopefully one of those being a non-lethal takedown or stun type setting.

Will be very interesting to see just what kind of effect this type of settlement assault will have on the BGS. Hopefully not too destructive otherwise we are going to have to start moonlighting as settlement security guards 🤪

CM's did a great job with the commentary - nice bit of RP and not hammed up. Also great to see the Crusader get some time in the spotlight

Looking forward to seeing more.

One thing I was curious about is if different bases have an absolute finite number of inhabitants. For me it would be an immersion killer if the base just permanently spawned an infinite number of guards and skimmers.

I'm fine with : If a base has 50, or 21, or a random number between x and xx ... What I think I'd begrudge the most is infinity guards.

What I saw last night looks fantastic though. Not just the scenario played out, but the other stuff like how fluid it was, animations, how natural the ship flying over head was in real time... the sounds... none of it was missed on me :) Over all it's coming together super well.

FD has stated that settlements can be depleted of NPCs, and in that case new NPCs will spawn over time.
