My Block list is longer than yours.

It just takes longer to do. Playing the BGS in a group is a lot less time consuming on individual level. I guess AX is also easier in a group.
Depends what you want to do, how much you want to achieve, i can easily Fortify 5 or 6 systems on my own in an evening, i have no problem clearing AX CZs on my own.
In fact its easier in Solo as i dont have to contend with muppets and my PP Cutter melts Elite NPC wings in minutes.
Again there are only plusses for me in Solo.
Going to duck out of this one now as we have ended up discussing modes, i already have a room in that Hotel.

They do, but they'll only have a maximum of around 8 ships in them. You can drop in, wipe out those and then a new mission-related POI/signal source will appear to do the same thing again. Often the signals will be tens of thousands of light seconds apart (depending on how big the system is) which is why it's easier to go to a CNB or resource extraction site.
1v1 is a much better fight for me though, in some cases I might actually win...I can pull an enemy from supercruise and its just us and not all their friends...

I think Riverside meant that differently. You can play for fun and still take the game seriously in the sense that you respect and value the other players' time and gameplay. And then there's the "for the lolz" players who really take nothing "seriously" and don't care if they waste your time, annoy you, pee you off or are otherwise making your game time miserable.

@Riverside: Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's on a spectrum. To some I represent a threat and there have been plenty of occasions where I've been happy to capitalise on that, with ship builds that appear more dangerous than they actually are (better defended or more deadly in the hands of a better pilot for example). The worst offenders I've found are fellow BGSers that just don't like to lose. When you are in open actually meeting people it's a bit harder to get your faction to walk all over them, there is some camaraderie. Those that seek vengeance via the BGS (or as Scree describes, IRL) present a different kind of threat. I've not had that in this community, I've had it happen to me in others.

What rules you you lot use?

I remember seeing someone talking about wanting to knock down a well-known pirate group's BGS faction specifically because "they're gankers and I want to hurt them and it's the only way I can".
They hadn't even ganked him personally. He was just so mad at the nebulous idea of gankers that he felt motivated to seek out something of theirs and try to destroy it.

As long as it's in the game it's all good with me. It's emergent content, motivation to play, to group together against a common enemy. A lot of the motivation for my actions have been rooted in a desire for vengeance ;)

If someone is better than you at some activity it's understandable that they respond in a way they think they will be better at. Never start a fight unless you are pretty sure you are going to win & all that ;)

With BGS work blocking your opponent does nothing tactically useful, meeting them can though like negotiating peace treaties (diplomacy) or intimidation (encouraging a healthy respect for potential (in-game) repercussions, gunboat diplomacy). I have met plenty of ganker-types, and in some cases been able to find ways to make use of their skillset (or at least activities they enjoy doing more than I do) to intimidate my enemy, and have had 'assassins' sent after me & others on my side it's exciting, it's by no means certain I will survive but rebuy doesn't lose much when supporting or opposing factions. In part I often carry a lot of explo data because it gives me a stronger motivation to survive any encounter regardless of the hostile attackers motivation.

IMO faction conflict played out by both sides in open is the game at it's best, not only for the hunter vs prey mentality but also because when you meet there is the opportunity for diplomacy. When I'm going up against a group (or that have all blocked me I guess) that plays in a private group those opportunities are missing & it just turns into a boring grind-fest.

but but would be easier to block!

Most players don't care about any specific faction. I've done contract work to help out those that do. I've helped the PvP Hub, the Code & others against BGS retaliation, and lots of less well known, less contentious players & player groups. In general I support underdogs that play in Open being oppressed by groups that play in private groups. Some people have attacked me (or my territory) because they feel I'm not white hat enough & shouldn't be helping the people they are attacking because they didn't fit enough armour to survive & they want to 'teach them a lesson'.

Learning is fun, every day's a school day ;)
