PvP my pvp experience

So I am part of a few groups and joined a pvp group at 1 point cause I was interested in some pvp

So...

There is a message...

"feds in cubeo ganking people"

and well cubeo is my home.

And so I contacted someone in said pvp group as to who is going to this and who is responding and what what.

"Oh I'm co-ordinating the counter" goes a cmdr... we'll call him X
X then invites me to a wing and me, x, and y head to cubeo...
but once we get there there is nothing... no one... no feds...

at this point I should have known something was wrong but hey...

so a FAS appears after a while and its a yuri grom agent who was just sitting in supercruise at minimum speed... just... doing nothing. we'll call him Z

Then.
THEN.
X starts interdicting Z
he succeeds and I proceed to fly over.
Y drops in before me to join in with X
and I was a lil away so I jump in a few seconds late.

Now

Here is where things become very salty

I find X and Y just sitting there doing nothing and Z immediately turns to me and opens up firing at me.

Now I should mention I am in a clipper... 300 shields with +30% thermal resist and 2600 hull health with frag cannons.

And I couldn't see what Z had but he shot plasma and nuked my shield off in 1 hit.

"No problem." I think "we're 3 on 1, we can win this"

Then Z flew in and rammed me... I lost 40% hull health and he lost 1%

...

and note that was 1% off not only from the ram but also from my frag cannons.

So I start taking evasive maneuvers. strafing and such. Thinking that X and Y would help

But no...

they didn't help... they didn't even shoot... and Z kept on focusing on me

I realized what was going on and just high waked out at 33% hull health

They intended for me to be feed.
Lured me in to fight someone and then just watched me nearly get slaughtered
There was no fed threat in cubeo that night

So...
I always wanted to get into pvp cause it looked fun...
But after last night? No...

Edit: I was contacted by the pilots X and Y saying that they had instancing issues and they weren't trying to set me up... which if you think of it could be a reason for why they were doing nothing. So... I apologize...

Sorry to hear that this was your first PvP experience. This may be common in some groups, but it's not common in all, so this doesn't represent "all of PvP". I am not sure what research you did concerning the group in question, but a few YT searches and a bit of probing around in the community will usually uncover what type of group it is.

If this hasn't totally put you off PvP, I recommend you look around a bit more for one of the groups that don't behave in this manner. My own group, Cobra Kai, certainly don't fall into the category of the kind of group you interacted with. Feel free to check us out and join our Discord, if nothing else for just a chat. We're a small group though, which can be both good and bad I guess. We don't have the numbers to protect systems on our own, so we fly with other groups for bigger wing fights, nor do we have our own faction in game so no BGS to worry about, but atleast that means you'll get to know most of us rather quickly :)

Hope to see you fighting commanders again, either way.

I must check the PvP sub-forum to see if Commanders X, Y and Z have complained that you didn't play the game their way, after all they paid for the game, they can do what they want, and it isn't against the rules. The PvP White Knights will of course jump in and say way happened to you either doesn't happen, or was just a bit of fun, and you should be ashamed of yourself for not enjoying getting your Clipper blown up. I am sure it would have given the three Commanders lots of laughs, and probably a couple of videos.

Seriously, the PvP crowd are their own worst enemy, and yet they are always telling the Community that Open is fully of gentlemanly 'disagreements' fought under the Maquis Of Queensbury rules and no one, not one of them would ever consider doing what happened to you.

OP you should listen to the others PvP is rarely like that and is mostly jolly good fun. Nothing gets the heart pounding more in game I've found.

sounds like a setup and a legit 1vs1 fight to me. what's not to like?
yes, with moronic rng uber weapons and shields, but that's what the game has to offer ...

Your story reminds me of one Fallout 4 quest where one girl stands before the building and desperately cry for help, because "cannibals inside trapped her friends". There were cannibals inside, but the main dish for the dinner was you. Looks like very old trick indeed that shows that in PvP EVERYONE is your enemy.

How it went? Keep your enemies close, your friends even closer?

Heh, welcome to reality :D ... If you thought PvP was fun, well, you got proven wrong. It's fun only when you're the winner ;)

Thanks for people's comments.

I am not one for grudges in games.
Also kinda forgot their names...

I think I'll just first try build a better clipper before I try PVP again...
after all I heard some people say their clippers have 4000 hull health where mine only had 2600...
...
I really don't feel like having to rolling engineers 100000000000 times to get some ideal build... after all I have work. I can't spend 2-5 days grinding grade 5 engineer mods.
best I can do is grade 4... but I guess if I am going into pvp with just grade 4 I'm never going to stand a chance...

So...
Guess pvp will never be an option for me

Hi, I was one of those cmdrs (lets call me Y!)and I can only apologise for what happened but it was instancing issues, we had been having weird problems all night. At one point I had submitted to an interdiction from a griefer and started to engage him, then X dropped in, he could see me fine, he could see me flying defensively, shooting and my shields taking hit but could not see the other ship at all.

X even popped back in to the AD Discord channel to let you know that none of it was intentional and that he was killed by the other guy just after you left, I didn't even see you had dropped in to the instance in question at all!

So yeah very sorry about it all, you weren't set up and we both feel bad that you feel that way.

If you aren't already on the AD Slack channel, you can go to https://www.reddit.com/r/AislingDuval/ and follow the instructions on there to join, it is were most of us in Cubeo tend to hang out and chat.

o7 cmdr

:(

Trust no one. That's what keeps it interesting. You gotta be ready all the time.

Plus friend request's are generally just a way to keep track of where you are, nothing else.

PvP can be fun even if you are not winning. It's rare, but sometimes the fights are just a lot of fun. It would be for everybody a lot more fun if everybody would PvP for the fun of the fight and not just to win. Never going to happen, but it would be nice. ;)

You really don't need to roll a million times for every module on the ship. The only thing people really use a lot of time on are the Dirty Drives...because Palin is a pollock! Everything else is rather easy to get good (not God) rolls for. I usually bring 30 rolls spread out on a few modules when I visit an Engineer, and I almost always leave with a roll I am happy with. That's not even a day of gaming to get a good module. But yeah, PvP is a lot about Engineering I'm afraid.

The alternative is ofcourse to find someone you know and do friendly duels with to practice. You won't need G5 rolls for that, and you will get better. Then you can take your time upgrading a little here and a little there, and you get better while you're doing it. Eventually you'll have skills and a good PvP-fitted ship.

People don't play even sports for "the fun of it", but "to win". So, no, won't be happening :D

one of my last fights (before stowing my hotas for a while) was in my extra paper thin lightweight engineered fdl vs an unknown cmdr in an engineered proximity mine asp. it was very fun. we hold the fight several times because his mines would always end up destroying my shield, waited for them to regen, then continued. finally, with my shield generator completely broken he offered to stop but i happily continued to the rebuy screen. very fun and quite interesting fight.

so, yes, it happens.

Reading the description of both OP and ajg74, I can only say that those stories mesh. Yes, it is possible that instancing messes up like this, and the only way to clear that up is for everyone to leave the instance and then get together again.

What could have helped there (a lot!) would have been setting up a voice chat, either on Discord or in wing. That makes it _much_ easier, even in combat, to check back with your wingmates if things like this happen. If you hear things like "who are you shooting at - I can't see anyone", you know something is wrong. If you want to train simply winging up, in-wing communication and coordination, leave a line, here or in the CobraKai discord, with your usual in-game times. If not me, then I'm sure someone else will take it up.
Of course there's also the Galactic Academy Discord (link at the top of the page in the Newcomers Forum) where there's usually a lot of helpful people hanging out.

Yes, I'm also nominally in CK - I simply just don't seem to manage to get into the game at the same time as the other guys, and I'm way behind them in PvP experience.

Trust me, it's disheartening for many of the serious PvP players. The greats such as Truesilver have stated many times that even now, they spend more time than anything engineering to remain competitive in PvP.

While I don't think it's the correct solution, this has at least been acknowledged in some form, and during the next updates we'll be seeing a rule that means engineering an already engineered module will always present an improvement. The details are fuzzy but that should heavily reduce the workload you have to do to engineer.

If you want to engage in some competitive PvP, perhaps use the space until then to speak to the GCI group. I have no association with them but they consist of some really good guys that would hopefully offer to evaluate you and spar with you in unengineered builds, or fighters, or whatever floats your boat. And if not, you're welcome to drop me a message to do it.

Seriously, the PvE crowd are their own worst enemy; they are always vehemently throwing vitriol at PvP players, and somehow not noticing that it's not solving anything.

You're welcome to keep joining threads to construct witch hunts against PvP players. The murderers aren't going to be dissuaded; you're only concreting their resolve. But of course the good news is that in the game, between a rising conflict between gankers and hysterical anti-PvPers, the gankers win :)

Thank you cmdr, we seriously are upset that she thinks we set her up!

As for the chat, both myself and X where on Discord chat in the AD Alpha chat channel and asked the OP to join us but she said her mic was broken (or something) so the offer was there!
