PvP my pvp experience

The game could in theory offer lots of fun with PvP, but as long as the PvP community is dominated by minmax fanatics it wont be. I often check the vids they post and its always just an incredibly, incredibly mindnumbingly boring thing with two ships lobbing stuff at each other for 20 minutes or endless attempts at ramming, with the fight only actually ending in a kill if both sides agree to not just fly away when things get iffy. ED doesnt lend itself as an 'esports' game, which is the mentality PvP players bring. A shame, really.

Highwaking from 1 v 1 is disrespectful, it will be held against you.

TTK is extreme atm, an average fight lasts 15min, thats too long, thx to engineering the shield/hull strength is insane.

Hi, I was one of those cmdrs (lets call me Y!)and I can only apologise for what happened but it was instancing issues, we had been having weird problems all night. At one point I had submitted to an interdiction from a griefer and started to engage him, then X dropped in, he could see me fine, he could see me flying defensively, shooting and my shields taking hit but could not see the other ship at all.

X even popped back in to the AD Discord channel to let you know that none of it was intentional and that he was killed by the other guy just after you left, I didn't even see you had dropped in to the instance in question at all!

So yeah very sorry about it all, you weren't set up and we both feel bad that you feel that way.

If you aren't already on the AD Slack channel, you can go to https://www.reddit.com/r/AislingDuval/ and follow the instructions on there to join, it is were most of us in Cubeo tend to hang out and chat.

If this was any other game I would say you're lying...
But yea I know elite has some bad net code moments....

So sorry for my accusation... if it really was you...

Like I said I can't remember your names

\o/ never, ever, trust anyone on forums (unless they happen to be mods, those *usually* are trustworthy).

Well, I suppose it depends on the type of sport - but most are by design such: win or lose.
I think it depends more on where you play.
Some cultures, like in US for example, set a high price on winning, and their sports reflect it.
But its not true everywhere. We brits can play a cricket match that takes 5 days to complete, and we fully expect the result to be a draw. (There is a winner sometimes of course).

So I start taking evasive maneuvers. strafing and such. Thinking that X and Y would help
But no...
they didn't help... they didn't even shoot... and Z kept on focusing on me
I realized what was going on and just high waked out at 33% hull health

You are lucky!
"X" was destroyed immediately аfter your highwake. And his little friend "Y" highwaked at 10% of hull health :)

Why no Feds? I killed them before :)

It was us, we both remember your name and can see X's message about what happened on Discord where he mentions your cmdr name.

Don't worry about it, it is easy to be suspicious of people's motives in open and tbh I have been very cautious of some people, who are now good buddies\wing mates, when I first met them them.

I do advise you get a mic so you can join in on chat or failing that just join the chat to listen, also as I said join the AD Slack channel, we are a very friendly bunch!

Ohwow

To the guy in the clipper, thats NOT how you fight with frags. Boost full speed, release 3 rounds and fly far, turn, repeat, the load time on frags leaves you close to the enemy without weapons for few good seconds while he is hammering you woth PAs close range. Use the massive speed of the clipper, thats where its power is.

Watch HP videos with frag clipper.
My own channel also, I use frag FAS.

.

and here in underlines why PvP in ED is inherantly broken (imo)

escaping from a fight you are about to lose in a game where you role play flying your own space ship is the ONLY sensible thing to do.... and then it is your job to be properly equipped to scan the "cowards" wake and chase after them......
the fact that some "PvPers" may hold that against a player and may possibly even mean they are put on some KOS list is nonsense.

the tools are in the game to allow a "PvPer" to chase after a player who disengages... the fact that some choose to forgo the correct equipement so they can add a few more HP to their shields sums up the hypocrisy going on... how is demanding a ship sits in an instance to die any more outrageous than a "greedy" trader not using a decent shield but instead putting in an extra cargo rack.

its part of the exact same issue... the need to be the absolute best fighter / trader / what ever you can be even if it makes your build unworkable in other areas.

that anyone can slag off a player for flying without shields complaining about being blown up, and then moan that a player hiwakes from their guns when they did not bother to fit a wake scanner is such hypocrisy.

Its not cheating, its just lame, similar as using heat canons before 2.4.

Wake scanners are simply useful for little more than data collection. Catching them in the next system depends on having a faster connection and getting through hyperspace quicker, there's no guarantee you'll instance with them, and if the target chooses to log off immediately after jump then you're chasing air.

Sorry mate, but in a nutshell the concept of a continuous universe was thrown out the window with the decisions of PG and P2P networking - and every time someone pushes for continuity, they get the hearty backlash of "but I want to play my way"!

I can assure you that the ability to hunt others down and provide actual consequence is something many PvPers, including PvP bounty hunters, have been after for some time. But as long as people can take offense to proposals in that direction, ED is little more than a multiplayer arcade game.

i didnt say cheating. i asked why is it lame? (disrespectful)... i would say clogging is distrespectful, not hiwaking.
if you get in a fight on the street, and you are losing, would you stay and take a kicking or would you run?

ED is NOT an arena shooter and nor is it meant to be. the tools are there to allow you to chase your victim. if you chose not the equip them that is on you......

like i said, how is this different to a trader not fitting shields then complaining they got blown up?

ED is little more than a multiplayer arcade game.

I disagree... it is a multiplayer space role playing game..... sure you can play it as an arcade arena shooter if you like but this is not how it is designed.......... complaining about a player who dares to run from a fight ... it does not compute.
now......... if the wake scanner is broken that is another issue...........

That is absolutely how it is designed. How can there be continuity when you can separate yourself into your own instance at will, or remove yourself from play at will? There is no consequence inherent in the game.

Imagine a criminal player has a bounty and is trying to UA bomb a station. They are interdicted by a PvP bounty hunter, equipped with wake scanner and other tools for the hunt-they chose to forgo the FDL and min/maxed HP so they have enough internals and jump range to make chase. On interdicting the UA bomber, the criminal simply high wakes out, logs off, swaps to PG and continues to bomb the station.

This is all legitimate gameplay according to the rules, and yet someone that made multiple concessions had the righteous rug pulled from under their feet because the criminal didn't feel like being a part of the ongoing universe at that time.

Please explain where continuity and consequence made an appearance for the bounty hunter.

While much of the community likes to think that any attempt to reign in CLing, or separate into Open/PG BGS, is just "PvPers trying to trap victims" it is really in a nutshell attempting to achieve any level of continuity. As long as PP wars can be won by people in PG, or you can just log off to avoid defeat, there is absolutely no reason to diversify by making concessions on your combat ability for utility tools.

The only content you can rely on from a PvP perspective is agreed duels, where running marks you the loser anyway.
