Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Funny. Your answer post has appeared above my question post ...... 🤔

Your post says YES to question 1 and 2. Thank you.

What about questions 3, 4, 5 & 6 ?
Thank you.
I don't really know how to answer this as I don't pay attention to the coordinates. Except I will for working out my cube for ELW hunting. I use the maps and route planner in EDSM.net for seeing where I am and finding the distance between places.

Early in the game I had no feel for how often I might lose a ship, so I kept enough credits for 2 to 3 rebuys. With the benefit of hindsight, credits for 2 rebuys is enough, especially considering that you don't engage in higher risk activities such as combat.
True enough. On the other hand, losing all your hard-won progress because you didn't have a rebuy left is a major reason people quit the game. I think erring on the side of caution is warranted here.

Anyway, I've said enough on that. Do what you judge best :)

The funny thing is, I have a bit under 1 billion in ships and modules (sold the Colonia T9 now), and a bit over 1 billion in credits. The Cutter specification I want is 1.2 billion but I'll probably wait until I have 2 billion and the materials to engineer it before I buy it. By which time I'll probably have made rear admiral in the Federal navy, change my mind and buy a Corvette instead. It's not like I can't trade in the bubble with a T9...

Yes. I'm a cautious fellow, and having to go back to the starter sidewinder is something I wish to avoid at all costs. If I have just 2 rebuys, then if I lose my ship once, I have only 1 rebuy left. That's too close for comfort (for me). You may feel differently, which is fine :)
Thanks. Yes, I would/will be the same. I just didn't realize the threat could be so high. 😲 3 rebuys ...... made no sense ...... however it does now. ;)

You don't have to answer. (y) I was just trying to find if what I'd found was new or/and of any value to current pilots. New and old pilots. The YES/NO comment was there to make it quick and easy for pilots to answer the 6 questions. Anyway, forget about it. ;)

To be honest I don't understand the questions. :)

I think credits for 3 rebuys is wise for the ship you are currently flying.
I can remember all the ship losses I have had and and the causes.
1) ASP Explorer first run doing Robigo passenger runs - ship got scanned at the tourist beacon while I was plotting course back to Robigo. The enemy ships opened fire and destroyed my ship.
2) Krait Phantom - before I understood the consequences of power play I plegded to an Imperial Faction. That made me a hostile in the Federation system Deciat where Felicity Farseer lives. She was OK with it, but I docked at a space station in the same system and they blew up the ship.
3) Krait Phantom - approaching the surface of a high G planet forgetting it wasn't a low G moon and I couldn't stop quickly enough - boom!
4) Alliance Chieftan - I wonder what a Non-Human Signal Threat Level 7 is like - in Thargoid space. So many Thargoid scouts and red lights at once and boom! My only combat death - but I do often make a hasty retreat.
5) Krait Phantom - visiting the World of Death near Colonia. We talked about this one earlier in the thread.

Given that I have done quite a bit of combat now (expert rank) I would have thought there would be more ship losses with that. But in combat I'm watching carefully for the moment to retreat. Ship losses happen when I'm complacent and stop paying attention. That is the danger when exploring.

In my case, I've only lost ships on purpose, never by accident (on my main account). And only some sidewinders, and one DBX. But I'm a careful guy.

I'm getting closer to triple elite, though. Maybe I'll get there this year. Or the next ;)

At the moment I'm Elite, Elite, Dangerous. Kinda like they named the game after me! :D

Sorry ..... as you can tell, I've had a bloody hard day.
What with the threat of home eviction ...... what else can go wrong .......
I normally spend 4 months in Australia and 8 months in Bali. My current accommodation only allows me to occupy my Australian accommodation for 5 months a year. It's a holiday resort and they don't want permanents in the resort, so you are held to 5 months only a year in the resort. My 5 months run out at the end of November this year, and yesterday, they came to remind me of that. 😲 But we're in lock-down ! I'd love to be leaving for Bali at the end of October, but the government won't let me leave the country (yes that's leave) because of COVID ! I have money (thank God), it's not that. It's the inconvenience of moving out for up to 7 months at 81 years of age ! 😢 So yesterday was a bad, bad day, and it was obvious, and I apologize. 🥺
And here's me telling the world, well the world of ED. But I did say when I opened up this thread, if I couldn't say it publicly, I wouldn't say it at all. Wish me luck. 😯

It's more like "and I'm a careful guy", rather than "but". (y)

Ha ! At moment, I can think of only one name for me: Loser ? 🥺

Yes. Thanks. I am forgetting about the threat of combat. Something I don't contemplate ever doing. It just doesn't enter my mind. Not ever the thought unintentional combat. I fly unarmed, they won't fire on me. Think again Wombat ! 😲 3 rebuys it will be. Can't be too curious. ;)

As I said previously, and more importantly, I now understand, it'll be 3 rebuys.

Yes, being able to rebuy your ship (not lose your progress) is probably the most important thing to avoid frustration. This becomes especially true if and when you start to engineer your ships which can take time, gathering the materials and so on.

Depending on what types of ships you fly this really isn't too onerous though. I fly only small and medium ships, and I think I only have a few that cost more than a million to rebuy. And making a million credits isn't really that challenging. :)

I actually logged in last night as I felt like playing something, and flying spaceships seemed to be the favorite. Took a mission to destroy a pirate lord... Don't drink and fly! I got sloppy and my very slow and blurred reactions caused me to lose my ship to the naughty pirate! So, I re-bought my ship and went after him again and this time tried a little harder in in a few minutes he was gone. Decided to take one more mission after that which went off without any silliness.

Cost of rebuy, around 500,000 credits. Mission rewards 6 million and some biotech conductors, bounties another million so I still came out ahead. But yes, early on be sure you have those credits in reserve.

I currently have around 95,000, so as Codger says, I better get weaving. ;)

Build credits up now, after some miscomprehensions. ;)

Yes. It will happen, it's hard not to make credits in this game. It's a bit of a struggle until it stops being a struggle and you realize you have millions, even billions in the bank, eventually you'll have enough to buy any ship you want without batting an eyelid. Until you get a fleet carrier there's not much in the way of running costs.

In your previous post, that figure is what you will need to pay to rebuy your ship if you lose it, no need to overthink it (or anything in the game really ;) ). The insurance pays the rest, you will need to find 36,715 credits, so you already have enough for a couple of rebuys. But just keep an eye on that figure as it goes up if you put more expensive modules into your ship.

And when it happens, take the rebuy screen slowly. It's very confusing IMO, and I've played for ages. :)
