New 25 essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST

and are the largest crustacean on earth
Isn't the Japanese Spider Crab bigger? I think I've heard once that if you count the Length of the Legs, it can even get as big as a Car (but this might be a Exaggeration)

They're too big and active for the exhibits much like the Green Iguana.
Please Frontier, give us finally Exhibit Iguanas (and please let me also build the Walk through Enclosure I thought about before Release when we found out about the Brazilian Wandering Spider being in the Game 😂. It would be so natural, adventurous, painful, deadly and awkward for the male Guests🙃)

Does anyone have Information if they are kept in any Zoos currently, except Rescue Animals? There are at least none in EAZA Zoos currently. If they are kept anywhere, it would be nice to get them in some kind of Polar Pack
Ok I just doubled checked and it looks like they only are in captivity if they are under maintenance/rescue/rehabilitation and even then it's pretty uncommon, I must have mixed it up with a different seal so I'll fix it

After roughly half a year, and following the requests made by numerous forum users, I'm setting up this thread in order to start another 'Essential animals meta-wishlist' where I record users' animals wishlists and put them all together on a meta-wishlist. Given that we've gotten 3 DLCs since I started the previous thread; this time around I ask you all to please post a list of just 25 habitat animals.

The more people participating, the bigger the sample size will be so better conclusions can be drawn. I’m writting down every user who posts their list in order to avoid having repetitions. I intend to keep this updated as much as I can. Last update: 23th November, 2021

The spirit and basic rules of the thread will be similar to those of the first one. Which means:
  • For the sake of keeping the same wishlist structure, I ask you to post your 20 essential habitat animals that you’d like to see in the game. Lists with anything above 20 animals will be discarded.
  • Exhibit animals will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Exhibit animals include arthropods, amphibians, snakes, other small reptiles (< iguanas), small fish and mouse-size mammals.
  • Flying birds and bats usually housed in aviaries will be omitted from the main meta-wishlist. Flying aviary birds include birds of prey, parrots, Columbiformes (pigeons), Passeriformes (small birds), Charadriiformes (gulls) and so on. Mainly ground-dwelling or semi-aquatic birds (mainly Waterfowl, Galliformes, Ratites, Pelecaniformes, Cranes, Penguins, etc.) will be added to the list.
  • Extinct species will not be considered.
  • As a general rule of thumb, animal species is the preferred category for animal submissions. Subspecies from already in-game animals are also accepted. Subspecies from animals that are not in-game will automatically be allocated to the superior species category. Specific domestic animals breeds are also accepted.
  • To simplify data collection, those answers that include several species in one slot (eg.: 1. Any species of sloth) will be automatically treated as a single animal and added to the most requested species inside that generic animal group (eg. in this case: Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth). This obviously leads to an underestimation of the total key requested animals.

As you can see, a total of 477 animals have been considered 'essential' by at least one forum user.

TL;DR: Post your 25 essential habitat animals wishlist here. I will record each wishlist and add it to the Meta-list. Aviary and exhibit animals won’t be taken into consideration.

#Important note: Everyone who has submitted an initial list with 20 animals is allowed to vote for 5 additional animals now!#

PS: Check darthquell's new thread for Essential exhibit animals, Spiderhawk's thread for Essential aviary animals and yoav's thread for Essential fully aquatic animals!
Addditional Five Animals:
1.
Kudu antelope
2. Helmeted Guinea Fowl
3. Little Blue Penguin
4. Saiga antelope
5. Black Rhinoceros

Thanks to everyone submitting their additional votes and of course to the new ones for participating! I am updating the list as of now. Since there have been so many posts and questions I'll answer in the meantime:
None of the animals on my list have made it in yet, but I do still have plenty others I want, so I hope it’s okay for me to add five more?

21. Shoebill
22. Coati (either Nasua species)
23. African Civet
24. Diademed Sifaka
25. Rakali (yep I’m back at it again with the rats)

(Also, I wrote any species of porcupine on my first list, but I think now I would rather my vote go towards the Prehensile-tailed Porcupine? Probably too much work to change that, but if it’s a possibility I just wanna throw it out there!)
Sorry but the original list you submit is the definitive one. I could easily change your vote as you request but it'd set a bad precedent and people could start asking for replacements non-stop. I hope you understand and thanks for submitting your additional animals!
Ayy, the list continues!! Five animals for me are actually gonna do the trick, cause I think that's the approximate number that went in from my old list. Other wishes stayed the same more or less so this is great.

Thank you my friend @random goat for blessing us with the meta wishlist once again

21. Red River Hog @nutrit supporting the cause ! 💪
22. Crested Porcupine
23. Bennet's Wallaby
24. Ocelot
25. Sarus Crane

It feels weird not putting cold region animals on one of these, but Frontier knocked it out of park with last two DLCs, am satisfied, I can pursuit more exotic animals from now on.
Thanks Markiz!
Two of my original top 20 were added in the dlc. Can I change those two as well?
In case it wasn't clear, sorry but nope, replacements aren't and won't be a thing.
I have the Manatee in my list, its a full aquatic one, i would change it to the Fossa if you allowed me @random goat
Sorry but nope. As it's been discussed here before, fully aquatic animals are allowed as long as they're big enough to be considered habitat animals. This is based on two criteria: 1) it is currently pretty much possible to build aquariums with some workarounds and if you disguise the habitat gate and the piece the land in front of it. 2) Animal behaviour (the time they spend on water) can be changed relatively easily. It's not like implementing a completely new system like proper aviaries (which btw hasn't been a thing in the zoo simulation games industry until JWE2).
Do I understand correctly that we can add 5 animals now? My original list is the following:

1. Capybara
2. Lar Gibbon
3. Great White Pelican (or any pelican)
4. Hamadryas Baboon
5. Moose
6. American Beaver
7. Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth
8. Emu
9. Golden Takin
10. California Sea Lion
11. Nubian Ibex
12. Alligator Snapping Turtle
13. South American Coati
14. Reeve's Muntjac
15. Bennett's Wallaby
16. Wolverine
17. Musk Ox
18. Asian Giant Softshell Turtle
19. Greater Chevrotain
20. Asian Small-clawed Otter

I would like to add:
21. Brown Pelican
22. Black Swan
23. Crab-eating Macaque
24. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
25. Helmeted Guineafowl
That's it, indeed. Your 5 additional votes are being recorded.
Well, I don't want to brag, but counting the Fallow Deer instead of the Red Deer, I got eight animals from my wishlist out of the last two packs. :ROFLMAO:

I would like to add to my wishlist the following five animals:
  1. Patagonian Mara
  2. South American Coati
  3. Mantled Guereza
  4. Walrus
  5. Red River Hog
The ones who almost made the cut were the caracal, the blackbuck, the lar gibbon and the maned wolf, but I had to draw the line unfortunately. I do want to say, though, that I really want more primates in the game, even if my list doesn't really represent that wish.

And finally, thank you so much @random goat for maintaining and so regularly updating this awesome list! Checking the developments on this thread is one of my favorite parts of the PZ community, and you're doing such an awesome job here.
I appreciate it!

Hi @random goat will you be deleting animals from Europe pack from the list now or on 14th?
It's in the works!
What did you mean by additional animals? And will there be some more African species even though there was already Africa pack?
I mean any additional animals. I'll just ignore the other question lol.
Your 4 additional votes are good ;)
Time to get my +5 species in?

21. Burrowing Owl (is this allowed here, now burrows are a thing?)
22. Marabou Stork
23. Crested Porcupine
24. Common Wombat
25. Kakapo
I'm not entirely familiar with burrowing owl but wouldn't they be considered 'aviary animals'? I mean, don't they behave mostly like any other owl or bird of prey? If someone (including you) has more input on this I'd appreciate it. Otherwise I'd prefer if you included a different animal. Your list is on hold for now until confirmation ;)
+5 animals for my wishlist:
21. Tayra
22. White-Lipped Peccary
23. Indian Giant Squirrel
24. Pacific Loon
25. Sulawesi Bear Cuscus
18. Crowned Pigeon (if Fallow Deer is no longer counting, since we will have them in the next pack)
I'll only pick your 5 first animals since replacements are not allowed. Sorry!
So i guess i can also select another three animals to replace the ones in the list? Since we are getting those (ibex, lynx, and deer) with the next pack

If so my other 8 animals would be:

1. Caracal
2. Damoiselle crane
3. Blackbuck
4. Sloth bear
5. Spectacled bear
6. Mandarin duck
7. Przewalski's horse
8. Red river hog
Nope, as it's been said, just 5 sorry. Please re-post your list when you decide which 5 you want to include.

Also, a reminder to @Barje to pick just 5 animals out of your additional list. Thanks.

It's ok, I want the Manatee in game :) There were some discussion about it.
Thank you for your work ❤️

I would file them under "could be made to work as habitat animal" in so far as they spend their time on the ground or under it, and there is already precedent for birds that can fly but don't in game (flamingos, peacocks etc) - they nest in prarie dog burrows.

That said, I appreciate this is your final decision, and so if you rule against them, I'll go with Yak.

Oh it was definetely not a final decision! I genuinely don't know anything about these animals. My main concern was whether these animals would tipically be housed in covered aviaries or not. But since I tend to be flexible with animal inclusions and your explanation seems legit I think I'll make an exception for this owl unless someone shows evidence as to why these animals are only housed in aviaries.
Your vote is allocated to 'Burrowing owl' for now, same as @Cotolorynchuseggs 's vote.

just fyi, i still want my vote to be burrowing owl, i had just temporarily preemptively changed it.
i had changed it to scarlet ibis in case burrowing owl wasn't allowed for like, an hour

Hi ! I decided to join the forum mainly because I really wanted to contribute to this meta-wishlist. So here's my list:

1. Raccoon
2. Tasmanian Devil
3. South American Coati
4. Capybara
5. Maned Wolf
6. Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon
7. Nilgai
8. Giant Eland
9. Addax
10. Red River Hog
11. African Crested Porcupine
12. Przewalski's Horse
13. European Badger
14. Golden Lion Tamarin
15. Hamadryas Baboon
16. Mantled Guereza
17. Secretary Bird
18. Grey Crowned Crane
19. Striped Hyena
20. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
I doubted my wish for the european badger would ever come true but it's happening 😀

Like @Aramar, I'm very happy to see more people voting for the raccoon ! Same for the nilgai. I suspect a lot of people simply don't know about them (which would be a good reason to add them to the game btw). I myself discovered their existence only a few years ago and I'm someone who knows a lot about animals... They are so majestic and we desperately need some Asian ungulates. So, please, people, check out the Nilgai on Google and consider voting for it.

My 5 additional votes:

1. Asian small clawed otter
2. Scimitar horned oryx
3. Takin
4. Howler Monkey
5. American Black Bear (And, yeah, I kind of agree we have enough bears but that's my favorite bear so I can't help it)
