New 25 essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST

It means a change in strategy is likely necessary to stay profitable. I agree there are no real A-tiers left (one could make an argument for mematic animals like the sloth/platypus), but that means doing things similar to the SEA pack. More animals, but no A-tiers.
Leopard, dromedary, and arguably the gibbon. Excluding aviary birds and fully-aquatic animals of course.

I hope so, but I'm not sure a leopard and a dromedary would appeal to a casual player with the jaguar and bactrian already in the game. I may be underestimating people however.

Maybe except for lynx but I would much rather see Eurasian animal pack than just European.

I would go with:

Amur leopard (Asia)

Przewalski horse (Asia)

Eurasian lynx (Europe and Asia)

Wolverine (Europe and Asia)

Alpine ibex (Europe but other ibexes all over Asia)

Musk ox (Europe and Asia) or Eurasian badger (Europe and Asia) or Racoon dog (Europe and Asia)

Père David’s deer (Asia)

So I agree there are no strictly European animals that would make average player want to buy strictly European pack.
Eurasian pack on the other hand would contain animals from both continents and would please both Europe and Asia enthusiasts.
Hmm... I like this in theory, but I feel adding animals that are specific to Asia would be unfair... I mean, none of the other continents were required to share. At least go with things that can also be found in Europe...

I think a sloth or a gibbon could be a good headline species for tropical/rainforest pack. Perhaps the capybara (but I am not so sure if it works for a casual player).

Europe or eurasian (at the moment I prefer eurasian animal pack) could make another way. Instead of one animal at the front they could put there a Red deer together with the Amur Leopard (both continents represented). I think this could work for headline the pack.
Desert could be the baboon or the dromedar (for me it would work 😀). What could be further possible?
A savannah pack (other Name for Africa animal pack). I must say I really would like to have more species from Africa and I hope this will happen but a real headliner does not come to my head.
Oceania could work with the platypus or the Tasmanian devil

I hope so, but I'm not sure a leopard and a dromedary would appeal to a casual player with the jaguar and bactrian already in the game. I may be underestimating people however.
Well, the Leopard is the second most popular animal on the current metalist... and as said before, we're running out of big names anyways, so what does it matter at this point?

Understandable! Thanks for the great work!

On a related note, do you update these list by hand or are you using a script?
Thanks. I use an excel spreadsheet so I guess that means I update it by hand.
I have very basic knowledge of coding and just use it for ecology stuff. But other than that, people give unique names for some of the animals, so afaik it's pretty much impossible to code a script that make everything work.

eg. Imagine these examples: a) Brown-throated sloth, b) sloth, c) two-toed sloth, d) brown throated two toed sloth, e) Amazonian sloth, f) sloth (preferably two-toed) etc.
All these would be casting a vote for the same animal species, but you need a manual aka visual aka human (lol) verification. No code is capable to discern that to my knowledge.

It's actually quite doable, in more than one way. I asked because it seems like a lot of work, so if you want some help automating the process you're welcome to ask.

for example this quick run using regex:

Yeah I know what you showed is doable, even in excel (I do something similar in fact). The problem comes when dozens if not hundreds of species come into play. Like, in the case of sloths, you cannot just make "sloth" the reference word and count accordingly, cause you'd also have three toed sloth, pigmy sloth...even sloth bear in the same pot. There'd be too much overlapping to disentangle.
And in some other examples, you even get completely different names for the same animal (eg. raccoon dog and tanuki, wisent and European bison, etc.)
Not to mention the spelling mistakes lol
All in all, I reckon it's doable at some point, but it'd require almost as much work as doing it on excel (at least to me).

People, im getting tired of this. Europe has no animals to wow a casual audience, really? We allready had that atleast 10 times.

1. It would be a weird marketing move to do every continent besides the one where the company and a major part of the playerbase originate from
2. We just had the second north america pack, thats arguably more boring then an european pack in some of its choices, with some of the most sawed after beeing chared with europe. When even the headliner and the first screenshot of the pack shows animals that look identical to european counterparts, you cant tell me europe has no interesting animals
3. European animals have no casual audience? Let me break that down for you as simple as possible:

"Aww cute fluffy cat!"

"aww cute a fox!"

"I know this one from zoo tycoon! Wow what a stunning view"

"wow what a beautiful deer, i didnt knew deer could look so impressive"

"aww cute! I want one as a pet!"

If you havent noticed by now, european animals are one thing above anything else, charming. On the same note, being charming is the main thing you want for a headliner animal, as we have seen with the beaver. Id argue, any of these 7 animals could be the headliner of that pack, they just need to be framed a bit differently. The moose and ibex could easily be part of a beautiful and majestic nature szene that will let your jaw drop, while the 4 small carnivores all stand the test to be a headliner by cuteness factor alone. Sure they are no kangaroo, but in the end what your saying is that the animals need to bring someone to buy this pack, and i think simply slapping a cute animal front and center of the pack is a more then viable way to archieve that. There are endless amounts of cute animal videos on the internet, so really, people love cute animals.

The boar would propaply be the hardest, but even that one shouldnt have to much of a hard time. It shouldnt be much of a problem to frame its muscular build as something cool and stong, because it simply is a cool and strong animal. Plus add some of their baby and you have more cuteness factor.

Its really not as hard to appeal to an casual audience as some people here seem to think, and honestly i argue that this would be a way better pack then the SEA pack, atleast for a casual audience.
Youve got some animals they pretty much all now, tons of cute animals, 2 pretty and majestic ones and one thats badass and thicc.
Meanwhile SEA was headlined by an ugly bear, a cat, a red dog, a black and white tapir, an ugly monkey, an ugly pig and an ugly something.
I loved that pack, but for the casual non animal nerd, tell me how this pack is more appealing then some of the most well known, culturally established, charming and most importanly native animals to a large part of the player base.

If SEA was a risk, this one is an easy cashgrab, as much as some of you want to deny it.

Btw sorry Goat that this happend in this thread, but im just simply annoyed by the ignorance and honestly undeserved bad rep people give EU animals

Yea I really want the ibex, wolverine, musk ox and lynx. The best way to do that is an EU pack. Honestly as long as an animal is cute the general public will eat it up. Just put the lynx or ibex in a beautiful nature setting and you’re golden

Sorry to pop part of that dream buddy, but musk ox are not an european animal. They have been in the past, but only survived the end of the last iceage in north america.
Right now, only a small population lives in europe as part of an attempt to reestablish the must ox in some regions of their praestoric range (blue), but the one in europe sadly didnt really work out well, with the population still being quite small. I wouldnt count under 500 animals brought there in the last 80 years as native enough to put them into an european pack, if we follow that logic my beloved trash panda should be on the top of that list

Of all the languages this man knows he chose to speak the truth, damn

I have a feeling if the next pack is not Europe, but Avian, even with Avian additions the list will be European species heavy. Keeping in mind the vastness of Europe's species that are strictly in Europe or Europe/West Asia, there's also the animals that are both in NA and Europe that did not make the pack. Wolverine, Eurasian River Otter, for example.
