I had a quick thought about the message communicated from the different sequences of this E3 trailer:

planet:
ship passing by:
many ships going around the space station:
- highly animated world

eagle landing:
- impressive space station interior
- rich animations (landing gear)

back of the anaconda:
lakon with tiny people under it:
- the games features very big ships

sidewinder in the hangar:
- not sure what the message is here, except maybe this is the starter ship you have seen on the videos before

back to the eagle:
- there is life in the station (counted 7 persons on the landing pad)

plan on the cobra:
- hurry to some action: timed missions / imminent attack

cobra take off:
- impressive space station
- how to cut out a cobra crash sequence from a very poorly made attempt to exit the station ;)

galaxy:
hyper jump:
- wideness of the universe to explore

combat against anaconda:
- big ship attack

asteroid field and slow collision with canister:
- rich space environments and realistic in-game physics

canister scoop sequence:
credit screen:
single ship attack:
- ways to earn your credits

final ship jump sequence:
- co-operate with other players
game logo:
- brand, this game experience is called Elite Dangerous

What I think is missing is (a) scene(s) from the intensive dogfight you get in the conflict zones, scenes with many simultaneous fights going on at the same time (lasers going in many directions and explosions), to give the message that, yes, dogfights are full of action in the game.

Little peoples were likely added to make the space station scenes feel more alive and organic.

They prefer to be called midgets.

Anyway, trailer looks fantastic, I really liked the fact they used in-game footage instead showing off with cinematics. Honesty above all. Excellent stuff, Frontier!

I missed Kickstarter. I delayed Alpha to kit out my new gaming PC. I was saving up for a hotas setup. But now, I have to support the Premium Beta. With Elite, Frontier, the Outsider and other games from FD you can see the quality and professionalism growing with the technology. You can tell there is a plan and the team is executing on it. I am telling all my friends about this game doing my part of word-of-mouth advertising.

Wow. Wow! WOW! The best yet.

And the sound... getting better all the time. The landing gear up was perfect.

Now, who is arguing against external camera views? I want to see shots like these when I play. :D Come-on, DB seems to be warming up to rear-view cameras and such. I just can't reconcile a promo like this and no option to get cool views of my own actions even if I have to watch them outside the game.

Now the caveat. Advertising with CG is easier than delivering the same excitement in a game. I would like to hear from FD about how much of that was currently in-engine and how they can translate the feel of the promo to game-play. The people milling around the landing pad in the Coriolis were off the hook!

Man-crush on DB and Frontier.

Nuff-said.

have sombody make screenshots of you flying :p

Apologies if someone asked this already, but... based on the way the ships jumped at the end of the trailer, does this mean that we won't be analyzing hyperspace clouds like we did in Frontier? Kind of important for assassination missions... although I assume if we can walk around in stations in the final game, that'll be the way to gather that sort of intel?

more likely supercruise is being engaged in the video, rather than a hyperjump, methinks.

Sorry i didnt read past the opening post. just clicked on the link to the video. Giving my knee jerk initial feed back.

Misleading and generally bad.

misleading.. external views. based on the alpha the video is completely misleading, no sense of game play. Aspirational but a lie when it comes down to where the games is at. be prepared to refund and get bad press,

the game play sequences are rightly tucked in between the over whelming non game video. And they look pretty rubbish zap zap scenes.

no offence meant and it's clearly the hard work of professionals.

it doesnt seem to know who the target audience is and has a very dull unique selling point that will appeal to very few.

really a sorry to post such a downer. no worries if you dont agree.

justvwatched again. really like the guys running about. the canister scene is dreadful.

Please throw more real sparkle at it and less aspirational what if.

i liked tge plain black box adverts of the 80s much more than this clip.

once again sorry if that was harsh or out of context

@BenRyder

Interesting post

I showed the trailer to my lad and I got a wow with the cargo cannisters. For me that was quite interesting. In the scheme of things they are a very small game element and yet the detail is lavish. For me it gave a real sense that in 400 billion systems even a small cannister has had a lot of love.

I liked it but I think it needs some sort of tagline.

One ship, one galaxy, 400 billion systems, where will your journey take you?

Personally I'm thumbs up for the video, although I realised as soon as I saw external views and people, that people would say 'But that's not in the game' and I'd say, 'yet.'

Relax, this game has big aspirations way beyond what is there at present and the video, sets out some of those aspirations. After all David has said that they will go on adding content, all things being equal, for years.

Anyone taking a further look would also quickly find out that this is Beta, and you know what that means?

But more importantly isn't it good that FD gave it some PR love? After all some people have been saying for a while FD haven't been doing enough, I think this is a step that way and they, as one poster put it, have been remarkably restrained.

"Might" joins the same lexicon as "soon"! ;-)

[SPECULATION][READINGTOOMUCHINTOTHINGS]
This change from "soon" to "might" is a sign that Frontier have the end of development in their sights. Instead of pushing things forward, they will start pushing them off the table altogether. :(

Near the end of the video, we see the ships jump into hyperspace. It's a brilliant effect - you really get the impression of mind numbing acceleration, they're off to the vanishing point in the blink of an eye.

I thought it was more entering SuperCruise, as Hyperspace should have generated a cloud (if they are still doing that, it was in the Alpha combat missions)....

If it was SuperCruise, it is still missing the trails:
The act of engaging the FSD leaves a brilliant particle trail that dissipates over time – other vessels which match the position and vector when engaging their own FSD increase their chance of being matched in the same super-cruise session

[TEMPERINGOFEXPECTATIONS]
Yep. Unfortunately, I'm thinking the initial release will have a lot less overall game content than people expect. Yes, 400 billion is a big number, and it nicely shows what can be done with proc. gen., but probably over 99.999975% of that will never be visited by players. What will matter is hand created content, ships, missions and the like, yet all the E3 video shows the same five ships we already know, and a lot of post-processing. Respectfully, David Braben in interviews, and the DDF documents in general hint at way too much stuff that is yet to be seen, and yet we are supposedly in Beta? Hmmmmm.
[/TEMPERINGOFEXPECTATIONS]

What we do have is fantastic, very close to the original '84 Elite, which makes me happy, and has kept me entertained so far. :)

Now when I said that it wasn't well received - guess I should put more smilies in... I hope beyond release (1) that there is more content and gameplay. Sadly the current offering isn't interesting to me yet...

No other game in my mind, in the history of gaming invokes so much awe and wonder than Elite Dangerous. After seeing that trailer I am convinced of its potential to be a game changer in the gaming world.

Seeing those avatars confirmed my expectations that when EVA and SPL arrive, it will be a thing of beauty to behold. Procedural generation is going to revolutionize gaming for good. It will help populate alot of the stations and planets with little people all bustling and going on with their daily business. Nothing else has come close to this.

I can't wait until I am buying my first multicrewed ship and hiring new NPCs at the nearest station. Then taking my trusty Anaconda towards the surface for some R&R or big game hunting. ED by late 2015 will be glorious! :D

Will you guys be releasing a soundtrack? The build-up part towards the end is just...Wish I could hear more of the "theme" in-game.

"Man-crush" is what I first thought of when there were little people scurrying around in the docking area. I want to land my Cobra on... THAT guy!

"Remember, walking across the hangar on a RED signal is an offence punishable by death. Walk the Federal way... the Right way..."

Hahahahahahahahahhaha :D
