New naval rank grind meta working as intended?

I did FED rank for the Corvette the hard way in 2.4 on PC,it was absolutley mind numbing.

Id be happy for anyone who could get it done in less time as its literally A-B-A stuff most of the time. Even if you use mission variety you most likely having to go back to the same allied faction station constantly to get them anyway so it feels so repetitive. I didnt even jump for joy when i got admiral. I turned the game off for a week to get my sanity back.

At the moment id agree naval rank is just a progress bar,a placeholder for something that should involve gameplay. Its good news imo that one of the biggest grinds in the game has been reduced, because it was just that if you wanted one of the big 2,the worst grind in the game.

I stopped fed rank because it was advancing way too slowly and it felt like a chore. Less grind will definitely help. Let's hope FDEV won't "adjust it due to an oversight".

To be fair. I got duke using these missions. And now having my cutter i'm finally wanting to play the game again as I have something to do. Im fully expecting them to be nerfed soon, but with how badly the previous rank grind was implemented I wouldnt blame anyone for taking advantage of this latest opportunity.

"oh no, it's not days of mindless boring grind anymore, Fdev plz fix" do you guys got Stockholm syndrome or something ?

"it took days and days of work" work ? dude, it's a game, it's not supposed to be work.

"and even that seemed too quick" ok, you're insane.

seriously OP, if you wanna work for days, get a job and let us enjoy the game.

I've actually raised this very issue in the Bug Reporting forum. It just makes the ranking even more meaningless if it can be done so quickly.

I wouldn't want to be an FDev QA person right now... this new missions functionality really seems to be falling apart. I do like the new system, but really... skimmers, the miners, the ranking... anything else going to get borked?

You did what now?

The naval ranking is just about right where it is now. What is meaningless is the old way that took dozens of hours to complete.

If the ranks actually meant something and weren't just timegates to unlock a few ships, then fair enough it's worth reporting, but as they are now - the few hours to unlock a Cutter is about right.

The new mission reward system is FINE. You get to pick what you want to maximize which is a good thing. Lets say you start from scratch and fast rank up to Duke. Now you have the rank for a cutter. Can you afford to OWN a cutter now?

Not only was the old grind mind numbing, but there was no incentive to carry on once you hit Rear Admiral or Duke, you get nothing for Vice-Admiral/Admiral or Prince/King other than a meaningless title. No unlocked systems, no unlocked special modules, no unlocked ship graphic. Nothing. With the new system I have actually finished both, I wouldn't have bothered on the old system.

Why don't you all just be honest in your threads instead of beating around the bush.

MOMMY it's not fair some got something sooner than I did. MOMMY do something..

I will admit though this forum is absolutely funny as hell right now. Everyone is just trying to destroy ED for some reason right now. Hell let's remove all the ships in the game altogether and Just put everyone in sideys. All a rated and just get rid of everything else in the game. Just a sidey and Srv and planets to fly to. No credits, naval stuff, missions, trading anything. Just get rid of it all.

Then there's nothing for you all to cry about to mommy.

Also aren't alternate forum accounts against the rules? Seems like a very strange first post for someone who just joined today?

Your reasoning is fallacious and out of place; such a drastic change is unusual, and we were wondering if it was a bug. You are reading what _you_ want in this.

Rule of thumb... if something appears to make the game less grindy, then BUG REPORT IT lol.

Goes for credits or rep.

My advice though... milk the hell out of it.

I will be at this for right about two years before I get my cutter. I am at about 1.5 years right now and fly, exclusively, in Empire space. My current rank is Earl. I have no Alliance, or Federation, rank.

Jumped on the empire rank grind immediately when I saw this thread.

Just had finished my fed rank grind a few weeks ago.
Holy moly, this feels like grinding (ha ha) in the fast lane, lol.
One set of courier jobs and I catapulted to 99% empire aligned and advanced a rank.

Props to Fdev.

Now sir. THAT is how you do it :) You just got back weeks of life compared with the old ways.

rep!

They adjusted it with 3.0.2 though. Prior it was way easy to get Rank. I went from Viscount to Earl in a couple of hours. Its seems to be slowed down again now. Not as slow as before 3.0, but not as fast as a week ago.

Did anyone else mention that this is only half the grind? I feel like a load of people are forgetting rank doesn't afford you the ship, only provides the access. I spent a month getting my cutter ready for combat and by the time I was in it, I didn't care to use it for combat. Not to mention, it didn't feel like the behemoth I believed it to be, more like a tanker.

Speaking of which whats the best Imp systems for DDM's to gain rank now? May as well start the Imp grind before the forum dads get it closed down.

I don't understand those people trying to ruin all effective ways of playing. What do you want people to do? Accept 5 missions heading to five diffrent systems doing 5 diffrent things? It's so cool that you can now pick up 20 courier missions without board flipping . You can do Fed ranks in Sothis/Ceos and Imperial ranks in WuGuinagi or Mainani - so what!?

It takes ages to find systems like these pearls where missions are only targeting one or two other stations and make the grind a bit more effective.

I'd say FDev should bring back Sothis long distance tradining missions, bring back Robingo long distance smuggling missions and bring back any other kind of missions they have taken out. They were FUN because they were efficient. I would not mind if they'd balance the payouts but please stop destroying effective routes.

Have you ever tried doing missions in a "wild" system with 10+ neighboring stations? It's a pure nightmare!

I'm not suggesting that effective ways of playing are nerfed, what I've reported and asked FDev to look at is a system that used to take months and months to progress though now takes a matter of hours. It's gone from one extreme to the other. Perhaps I'm erroneously comparing ED to a game that has levels and progression, but to be able to go from the starting rank for both Fed and Empire to maxed out King and Admiral within a day or two just seems too quick.

Those 5 missions taking 5 things to 5 stations that you mention. I'm all for that, and have sought those very things out. What I didn't expect is that a single return trip would complete a ranking for me.
