New naval rank grind meta working as intended?

I have 1500 hours in this game. If I got Cutter after 4 hours effort what was I supposed to get at mark 8 hours, 12 hours, 16 hours etc.? :)

Whatever you can dream of? If money really was no object, you could have a fleet of Cutters for different roles. You could mine, fight, trade, explore. There's a whole galaxy of possibilities, and with no money concerns, you have access to all of it.

Money was never the goal, the adventure was. Money just expediates when you got to enjoy that adventure....

I found it mind numbing doing those stacked return data missions ad nauseam .... all credit whoever can now grind rank in a short time that way (because the rep for missions has increased), but under the old system it was not for me after reaching a couple of ranks below Duke.

I am Duke now, have been since just before 3.0, but I still don't have a Cutter  From the pictures that are posted, the Cutter looks a fine ship to head out into the galaxy and explore .... the color schemes available for it now are fabulous !

And that brings me to another issue (minor sidetrack) - why no similar love for the Clipper ? :(

Right. The Clipper is a purpose built pirate ship with no ship kits and few paint jobs available. . Viper 4 is the same way.

Exactly. If the grind is all the content there is, then FD and Elite have much bigger problems.

haha that's up to you though! It's a sand box.. you're supposed to make your own content... remember ;)

Are we assuming that you could afford a Cutter after 4 hours? Because barring any unorthodox credit gain like the skimmer stuff, you probably could not afford one even if you had the rank.

However, let's be generous and say you're already a billionaire and a King after 4 hours. I still think there is plenty of reward to be had simply playing the game. I like being rewarded through moment to moment gameplay, not in unlocks. I hate unlocks. Now of course it makes sense that in a game like Elite the larger ships should cost you more to buy and operate. Even that needs to be tempered a bit from what it is currently, but that's a whole other conversation. Bottom line is that gating a couple ships behind rank walls (which were just arbitrary little progress bars) is just adding one more barrier above and beyond credits and it took way too long (imho) to climb through those ranks.

Tbh I feel as though I shot myself in the foot with the empire ranking. I went from nothing to king in 12 hours, farming the war near ngurii purely with boom/data runs. 150m credits without even being chased. I've not even really affected the system from this! Having done it I realize that's a major game element "done" , forever, with no challenge or real pleasure 😐

Why would you fly the Clipper in anything but glorious Imperial white?

There's something majestically Subnautica about it in the white. Has to be the most glorious ship out there.

It is after all the player flagship of the empire.

Still a shame no one cares when you roll into a station in one.

Be like when the Britannia was still in use... imagine it being sailed into Southampton, and port authorities fired at it with impunity for loitering. lol.

A challenge to what though? Your patience? Sanity?
There is nothing challenging or satisfying about doing the same rote, simplistic task over and over just to fill a progress bar.

Did you do the grind the rank before this?

If you had i doubt you would have seen the grind as "gameplay". It takes no skill other than finding a good spot that spawns loads of missions. The gameplay of the naval rank is the ships, not the grind of ranks imo.

I dont mind having to have some sort of progression with the superpowers to be able to get the ships but the system as it stands is just boring repitition.

Increasing rep rewards as a mission reward is at least a step in the right direction, even if all it does is reduce the amount of time thats needed to be devoted to a pretty boring grind.

Who knows, maybe down the road we will get a more interesting way to get naval rank.

I always said that rep ranks should be gained in entirety for completing a profession mission arc. You get your promotion by completing engaging and relevant game play.

sorry commander, deliver these 12 units of tea for freedom and democracy.

My promotion to King was worse than that...

more like 3 agricultural thingmabobs to the same system. Some nut job could have done it in a sidey, but the superior officer in the Imperial Navy deemed it a good enough demonstration of mettle to be crowned monarchy.

Sigh. Achievement has made you POWERFUL, Vorx.

"oh no, it's not days of mindless boring grind anymore, Fdev plz fix" do you guys got Stockholm syndrome or something ?

"it took days and days of work" work ? dude, it's a game, it's not supposed to be work.

"and even that seemed too quick" ok, you're insane.

seriously OP, if you wanna work for days, get a job and let us enjoy the game.

Wish I could rep you multiple times for this post. This community is so toxic. Constantly trying to dictate how others play this game. Screaming for nerfs. Screaming for PvP to be removed, etc etc. They might as well be chanting "MORE GRIND, LESS PAY! MORE GRIND LESS PAY"
