Some people just love stirring don't they! It's almost like they enjoy playin it more than the game
The frame rates must be better here.

Thanks. I did catch Arthur's end of stream appearance but missed the rest.Mention of skybox brightness and doing something about the dark cockpit consoles.
That sums it all up in a few words.

Bears repeating...
We can only hypothesise (for what that is worth - which is little) but, if we are being charitable, I suspect that what has been delivered is the bare carcass of what was originally conceived. I'm guessing that there were a number of concepts competing for time in a project that seems to have little unifying vision - and that as development progressed (as happens in all projects) features were scaled down, retooled or cut. I think that in Odyssey's case these cuts were so close to the bone because of a number of factors including an underestimation of technical problems, the pandemic and possibly shareholder / financial expectations.
...
Well, thanks for spoiling Horizons for meI'll just have to assume, from the empirical evidence above, that every body with the "same" crater in Odyssey also has the "same" crater in Horizons...
They did say the DSS in VR might be fixed by patch No 5, ignored a bunch of questions that weren't so easy to respond to and sometimes came across as rather glib when they did answer a question. Raxxla was redacted - no clues! Stopped watching when they showed players pictures. Was there any mention in todays stream about what the lighting changes in this weeks patch are going to be?
I mean I could go and watch it myself, but ... the football is on the telly.
That's setting the bar pretty low, though. The frame rates must be better here.
Great shots! Now with regard to terrain tiles, yes, every Icy planet had repeating tiles. Example below.

You forgot the red circles. So I visited 11 Icy bodies today out past the core, and first footfall on each (for good measure). Up until now I've concentrated on atmospheric landables and non-atmospheric Rocky and HMC planets.
Firstly, the Icy planets look glorious. The textures and terrain on foot, in combination with hilly skylines and starfield - absolutely awesome. As are the glossy reflections from ice, and crazed shards. Also, some definitely have soft icy snow, and the footprints look great. First impressions - spectacular.
On the slight downside, I was surprised to see exactly the same terrain types used as on Rocky and HMC planets. The same mosaics, pimply hills, etc. I was hoping for some new terrain types for Icies. Perhaps I just didn't notice them (wishful thinking).

And adding a few Icy mood shots, to keep the thread happy and positive (I hope?)...

Note the snowy footprints. Nice! And yes, this was at a planetary nebula I first discovered many years ago. The main star is a black hole, seen in one of the shots.
I thought the little man's head (with eye and nose) repeated about 6 times was a little too obvious. You forgot the red circles.![]()

Shhhh... he pops up when you least expect it.The little man's head...![]()
I'd noticed the crater a couple of years ago, it appears with some regularity on longer trips out (once I get to my 'search area' I switch out star class filters - so get the full range) and, while noting they exist, have not reduced the fun of exploring for me.Well, thanks for spoiling Horizons for meafter about 2000 hours in Horizons I think they maybe had more than one crater stamp that looked similiar with the spokes coming out? or for some reason it just merged into the planet better. The one in Odyssey just pops right out at ya.
That ominously looks like EDH giving EDO both fingers.View attachment 240832Horizons...
For some things, yes. But for terrain regions, no, I don't understand. Especially based upon what I can see in game.- and while everyone understands the need for some type of procedural tiling -
The more pressing question is.. why is there a Tie Defender in the screenshot?I've popped in and out of the thread - so forgive me if this is a rehash.....

I am finding that the ground textures are taking quite some time to resolve - and as a result - when searching for surface biologicals - it's quite possible that I've overflown them before they have had a chance to render (if I stop in any one place - eventually the 'micro-landscaping' catches up....It was never near his pronounced in Horizons...
Once everything is rendered - I do like Odysseys' ground textures and of course skyboxes...As well I like the darker galaxy feel - the dust clouds seem richer / duskier....Rumor has it that the GalMap bookmarks are getting a fix (tomorrow?) - that will make me a much happier explorer - as they are completely F. U. B. A. R. at the moment...Hopefully they similarly address the shipyard and outfitting UI trainwreck....
I am trying to like flying in Odyssey more - but in my opinion the explorers' perspective of gameplay was entirely ignored during the development - and while everyone understands the need for some type of procedural tiling - the "steamrollerification" & "blandification" of the majority of bodies has soured the joy of exploration (positive note: there seems to be a greater variety of colors and contrasts of Gas Giant cloud bands....but then the FSS doesn't display any rings?!? )
