New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

This is actually embarrassing and surely false advertising? Did they not say it would be entirely procedural? 2 years in development to make features of the game actively worse. That is depressing.

Btw this base is MASSIVE on foot. Only on foot you can see and feel how huge it is! Also textures looks good too on foot. Even little bridge has working collision model.

Generic airless rock:

This one looks good to me. :)
So far it's at least more unique ones than copy-pattern rocks.

EDIT:
It sadly is not okay. :(

Planet generation is different ... the UI is different ... performance is different ... and I’ve heard that ship “handling” feels different ...

Did they lose the source code about 2 years ago and then furiously re-write the whole thing from scratch?!

People should really start posting pics from both Horizons and Odyssey randomly mixed together.

I would wager very many of the people claiming that Odyssey has far improved graphics won't be able to tell the difference between the two in a randomized mix.
I'm pretty sure I could tell the difference. The better looking planets will be from Horizons. ;)

Seriously, after playing around on Odyssey for several days on max settings, and then watching CMDR Burr's most recent video which featured almost entirely Horizons footage, I was blown away at how much better Horizons terrain looks overall than any post-launch Odyssey terrain I've seen so far.

Sure, Odyssey has some nice atmospheric effects, a few new reflection tricks here and there, and many worlds do look much better from orbit. But once you get on the ground, it becomes apparent that the surface features themselves are unquestionably a downgrade in most cases.

Even the improved on-foot textures only render in a small radius around the player. Anything beyond that radius and the textures just get far worse than Horizons' worlds ever were.

That would be the "idiots" who kept screaming for "space legs" for the past 6 years to the detriment and neglect of anything else. Seemingly missing that Elite has always been a space flight and trading sim, since 1984.
Well, the lead man himself said being able to get out of your ship was something he always wanted. I think you'll find the technology just wasn't there for Frontier, and certainly not Elite. It was always the plan so like it or, well, accept it.

Nope, Elite is a space simulation. You are a pilot in space, not a spaceship in space. Not being in a ship, and being on planets is also part of the galaxy as well.

The flight model is nailed down pretty well, and using content patches to combine on-foot gameplay with ship gameplay add to BOTH.

I kinda like that new UI. Handling feels same to me. New planet gen tech is a must have.

The lead man himself basically said everything, including detailed gameplay description of what it would be like to fly in gas giants.

When there is a game that is unique in its lore, flight dynamics and procedural content, I'd think its devs will try their utmost to build upon its core traits.
Instead we got a generic fps with generic hand crafted locations, and hand placed content. But yeah, that was what people wanted in the forums, so FDev went for it.

Holy ... What a disaster of a game. The procedural generation was what made exploration interesting. An entire galaxy of unique planets. Now this. Refund and roll back this absolutely crap excuse of a DLC which forever ruins exploration. Not only does it look crap thanks to the broken lighting of space, but even if you could see it, it's just an entirely galaxy of a handful of reused assets. This is so much worse than I thought it was with just being unable to see anything.
