With that kind of packaging they surely have one of the worlds highest value techs at hand. Every big data operator on the net would pay whatever Fdev asks to access said tech.

System is different, ofc, but the idea is the same. You got a string of data that the algorithm stored in your computer can recreate at will. Since everyone have the same key, and the same algorithm, everyone reproduce the same thing at the same place. Which is why stuff like the "egg" happened. It wasn't stored on any server, it was merely how the random gen decided the belt would be, and everyone had the same result.
Well you get a lots of data even if it is just text based stuff when there are hundreds of thousands of users over the years. Ever looked inside your local journal file? Thats the stuff that also gets sent to servers, as game verifies every meaningfull player transaction and so on.I still wouldn't call a potentially Terabyte scale database fluff or light-weight. As for cheap, well only FDev knows, but I'm fairly sure they don't pay per db access request, otherwise we would have a subscription for the game![]()

The remaining question is how often does this really happen and is it worth all the drama?
