New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

If I were FD I'd be getting the coloured chalks out because the possibilities are almost endless.

It would also be fun to have a competition for player submitted ships to shoehorn in that community engagement.
Unfortunately player submitted ships would all be designed to be the meta. e.g. A small would have to faster/more cargo/bigger weapons/better shields than the CM5 etc.
Unless the competition gives you a number of points to allocate to the categories (so you can e.g. give all your points to speed, at the cost of everything else) or some other mechanism

I mean like (adopts Arthur accent and turns to camera) "so guys, we have a competition! We are giving away some mega swag and all you have to do is design either a small, medium or large ship. This is purely for visuals except for hardpoints but go wild!"

For me it would be mainly about aesthetics and perhaps having a 150 word description. It may not come to anything actually real, but it would be fun and give FD ideas.

And the great thing is that these ships fill out the lineup by adding new branches, rather than simply trump older ones. Or make new SLFs, or SLF class ships with class one hyperdrives (like beta Elite D), proper SLF carriers (to tie into Vanguards, where you can launch 3+SLFs with players)....FD could keep the train going and add new gameplay.
I'd root for a landable fighter. Build at least two different ones: One for exploration and one for ground combat.

I wouldn't mind an orbital shuttle. Supercruise only so can't jump between systems, no hardpoints, but absolutely insane levels manoeuvrability, no drift and can be landed literally anywhere.

In part because I miss seeing these floating around the place.

I'm just wondering how much cargo space will it have with smallest shield and fuel scoop. My T8 has 354 which is half of what I have on cutter but latter one can go up to 460 speed after boost, which drops slowly due to higher mass.
In case of larger cargo space to what it should have based on visuals a lot of other things do not make sense so why not add larger cargo space to collection too- it won't hurt much. Anyway just imagine ship using space compression technology or dimensional stuff.

Ship looks nice but I would prefer to get L pad size freighter, imperial luxury version too.

The Beak is a Gutamaya ship for the filthy, unwashed and unsanitary masses, not an Imperial Navy ship.
I'm just hoping its gone down the route of This is what we can do when not locked into their requirements and not This is what we dumbed down for the mass market.
Would an 800m/s boost be too much to ask for? I only saw 400-ish m/s in the recent video and that cannot be fully engineered top.
Even 700m/s but not overly affected by mass would be great.
We should be grateful there are any seats at all in it, after all, the ship may even be purchased by, (shudders) Vermin like me...
Even Vermin (catchers) need somewhere to rest their posterior while basking...

Hi All :)

To be quite honest I'm not too keen on the overall design of the Corsair, it's different from previous ships to be sure and I'll most probably get one once it's released, just to 'check it out' so to speak.
Here's my thoughts...(but don't take me too seriously;)).
I wonder why it was so named?....is it a sort of replacement for the Imperial Courier or the Clipper?...I mean, it looks birdlike as some people have pointed out, so would it have been better to marry the name with the design in keeping with the overall concept. 🤷‍♂️
Ships names are usually sometimes based on what they're trying to portray, for example the Cobra, Python or Asp all seem to me to be hinting at different snakes, notably the head of the snake, and the Cobra especially try's to mimic that particular snakes more dramatic head features by being more or less wide as it's long.

'Corsair' 🤔..."Corsair is a noun that means a pirate who attacks enemy ships with permission from a government" (taken directly from the Cambridge dictionary). 🤷‍♂️...yeah, I suppose that makes some sense in relation to this game. So, is the design and function weighted more with players in mind who would favour a pirate career in the game? :D

I still reckon the name would have been more suitable to a bird with a more aggressive nature / name, maybe Griffon or Condor, though as other players have likened it to a Toucan or similar large beaked birds, all I can say is "If the name fits"....why not? 😀

I've just been looking up different species and flavours of Toucan like birds btw. here's one or two for example...Toucanet...Tepui...Aracari. 'Aracari'?....now that sounds more descriptive to me, and has a nice ring to it!
Just another thought here, when there is or are new designs of ships ready to be released from the Frontier shipyards, maybe it would be fun to ask the players to submit a name for one or two of those ships, perhaps as a light hearted competition even. In any case the name should reflect the design of the ship, and it's main purpose taken into consideration.
It might prove quite interesting.

Jack :)

All gutamaya designed ships (Imperial eagle is an upgrade not a design), start with the letter C.

And are nicknames for sailing ships, based on what their job was. - Not that the Imperial ships have any connection to their historical counterparts.

Corsair, as a privateer’s ship, makes perfect sense. Not requiring Imperial rank also makes perfect sense for a civilian ship engaged in state sponsored terrorism of the shipping lanes.

Privateers? Didn't know we were going posh in here.

Pirates is the name you're looking for. A privateer was a pirate who wasn't currently attacking you.
