New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

I mean like (adopts Arthur accent and turns to camera) "so guys, we have a competition! We are giving away some mega swag and all you have to do is design either a small, medium or large ship. This is purely for visuals except for hardpoints but go wild!"

For me it would be mainly about aesthetics and perhaps having a 150 word description. It may not come to anything actually real, but it would be fun and give FD ideas.
For me, a small non-combat focused ship that allows the canopy to open. The cmdr can fly at lower speeds and hover the ship and jump in/out directly. And fire hand weapons. Excellent for planet surface exploration, exobiology, quick settlement getaways, and EVA.

Hi :)

All gutamaya designed ships (Imperial eagle is an upgrade not a design), start with the letter C.
Ah!...of course, I'm embarrassed to admit I hadn't realised that.

And are nicknames for sailing ships, based on what their job was. - Not that the Imperial ships have any connection to their historical counterparts.

Corsair, as a privateer’s ship, makes perfect sense. Not requiring Imperial rank also makes perfect sense for a civilian ship engaged in state sponsored terrorism of the shipping lanes.
That was the only immediate connection I'd cottoned on to. :)
Well, as far as I can make out there's not many (real) ships left with a connection to historical or general craft beginning with the letter 'c' maybe a half dozen or so?.
Anyhow, there's plenty of other suitable choices if one looks to other stuff, Cougar or Chameleon etc. (the Chameleon will be the first Imperial ship to have a cloaking device module! ...)
Ok, I'm digging myself into a hole here so I'll desist! :D

Jack :)

Uh... while kids still use that phrase, that has been slang word for "great" since the 80s.

I think the kids today would either say it's "fione" or it's "Lit AF, no cap." Brainrot slang is hilarious (for the record, I'm in my early 50's).
And hence count as one of the kids.

Another: Human / Goid hybrids that require a totally different approach to ships. You are tied to Goid compatible stuff, can only be repaired at places with Goid tech brokers, but in exchange have the lightning lasers and different concepts of shields.
Goid/Human-Goid hybrid ships should probably be incompatible with Thargoid tech. Just to add a downside, no SCO for example.

Technically they all start with an "i" ;)
Technically they all start with an “I”😜

Privateers? Didn't know we were going posh in here.

Pirates is the name you're looking for. A privateer was a pirate who wasn't currently attacking you.
A privateer was a pirate with a license from some government to attack ships from other nations, so had the possibility of retiring safely.

Posting this since it has relevance to the name "Corsair":

And the great thing is that these ships fill out the lineup by adding new branches, rather than simply trump older ones. Or make new SLFs, or SLF class ships with class one hyperdrives (like beta Elite D), proper SLF carriers (to tie into Vanguards, where you can launch 3+SLFs with players)....FD could keep the train going and add new gameplay.
In my mind, I immediately heard the Ur-Quan voice say "Launch, launch, launch fighters." :)

I agree with both of you. Releasing new ships is absolutely fine and I want to see more of them. What I don't want to see is 'more of the same' that is slight variations because that becomes old pretty quick and meta ships reduce varieties.

I like Coolgrove's idea to create new ships along new game loops. Yes, probably even more development work but that could justify an ongoing revenue stream and in parallel more fun for the players.
I am thinking of unique ships which can carry oversized SRVs for planetary transport (ok, that would be a lot to develop but huge fun ;)), racing ships, construction ships for the colonies which have unique modules (e.g. air tanks, cranes, etc.), exploration ships for high-g landings. I admit, I am not a game designer and therefore lack creativity but I hope you get my idea ;)
You have got to stop coming up with awesome ideas. Gosh that imagination of yours, gesh. You put your ideas into my mind and i get kinda bummed, now i want that to! hahaha 😆
