New Version of Cmdr's Log Available!

*grumble* clicked the download link in wrong computer... *retry*

By the by, if you're interested - I could *try* make a linux version (it's the comp I use for forum etc while playing ED with Windoze in other monitors).

Wait... does ED work in Wine now? cos that might be the thing that shifts me off of Windows for good.

Yes please.. that'd rock my world. I've never bothered putting in the prices - too much like hard work - so I'm "classic mode" all the way. :) (How did my preferred method become "retro" in such a short time?)

One more... could you add an option to make the trading window "stay on top" as well?

Click the "Top" button in the top right corner :p

You know ArchV1 this isnt a program, its a work of art mate!

I have a Laptop running just for this must have companion addon for ED! - Though I have logged over 470 stations logged without prices (most of them are without) and now my OCD has kicked in and I am adventuring out into the galaxy again to get all the pricing........Cause I "Must" have all pricing!!!!!

Thanks mate for the effort on this project, its just an amazing piece of work, that imo puts all the other types to shame :)

I'd just found version 1.0 of the program and fallen in love with it - and now you've gone and improved it. Looking forward to trying it out!

I've just created an account specifically to say thank you for this program -- I'm really impressed with it and grateful for your efforts in making it -- thanks very much!

I do have one small issue, though, and that is that there seems to be a problem with assigning Illegal status to commodities. Specifically:

* when I press F11 or use the context menu the previous status remains at 'Not set', 'HD' or whatever (i.e. the text does not change). The text colour changes to red. The commodity will then be hidden if I check the Hide Illegal.

From that I infer that the intention is for illegal goods still to be able to have a demand or supply status -- legality is simply flagged by the text colour. However...

* If I assign the status 'Illegal' by using the drop down box on the price entry dialogue, then the commodity changes text to 'Illegal' and the background colour to white, text colour to black. This time though, the 'Hide Illegal' option has no effect.

Is this working as intended, or is there a mismatch between the two methods?

Many thanks again for an excellent program!

+1. Nice one. I can earn more using Thrudd, but this gives me way more immersion (especially once I got my head around how the single 'price' data entry works).

Journal (Jounral?) is a boon as well. Using this both for handy notes as well as short joggers to read back on. Yesterday took a break from a trade run to drop by a Resource Extraction site and take out a couple of 'Wanted' folk. Now I know how easy it is to inadvertently end up shooting a 'Clean' and handing myself a bounty. Whoops.

Great job - part of my standard ED loading workflow now.

Good catch. Yeah it's a bug. The detail window should treat illegal just like the main commodity window does.

*added to the list* Thanks!

Love this program (been using 1.6 for a couple weeks) - I'd put it right up there with Voice Attack and Roccat Powergrid as complete game-changers. Very excited to get v2.0 tonight, thank you again for this wonderful bit of code!

Hi Arch, thanks so much for developing this tool. I've been playing a bit with v1, and am looking at v2 now - will get into the game with it later tonight.

Regarding this post:

I move around quite a bit from one area to the next, so I have entered a lot of systems.

In the old version the system list was by default in the entry order which is handy for me as all the most current systems are grouped at the bottom.

Unfortunately in version 2.0a the list is by default ordered by system name and no way to get the entry order.
Please at least don't change the order in the results list for 'need'/'have' searches without some way of filtering for some 'current group property'.

I agree that some sort of search filter would be great. I like to find a nice trade route and then when I get tired of it, move a couple of 100 Ly's away till I find another one I like. Once I have the commodities mapped out for the new area, I don't really want to get the search results of the old area/s (unless OFC the old area has something unique in it, in which case I would remove the filter.) It could be something as simple as filtering based on one of the user's custom entries for "System zone" or "cluster", etc.

Again though, thanks for the great tool :)

Been thinking about this a bit, and really you could do it with a custom field. Make a field called "Area" or something. And make up your own key for specific area. Then when you can filter .... Check Search Station Data then just put in your key. It will show only systems that have that key on it.

I guess another clever trick could be for the search, check the Not button so it only shows stations that DO NOT have the key, then select all those and hide them. Then you won't have to filter at all. In fact, you'd HAVE to do this if you don't want those other stations in Trade window searches.

These were actually made to be exclusive. But I can see how people might want results even without profit. It would take a bit more work to make the other flavors of search. I'm assuming you guys want something like "Round Trip, Classic Mode"

That would be great, although I must admit that since (re)posting that, I've discovered the awesomeness that entering pricing data brings for finding optimum trades :)

Something else: I ran into a minor problem with window positions today. At home, I have two 1920x1200 screens where the second screen is to the right of what I have set as my main display in Windows. I have Cmdr's Log open on that screen. At work, I also have two 1920x1200 screens, but here the second screen is to the left of the main display. When I start Cmdr's Log at work (I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that ;) ), it opens out of view on the non-existant right screen. This isn't so much of a problem for the main screen, I can just hit alt-space to bring up the Window's menu to select move and pull it into view. The subwindows however, don't have this window menu so can't be pulled into view. Any chance this menu can be enabled for the subwindows as well without too much effort? (seriously don't put too much time into it, worst case I'll just edit out the 6 pos lines from settings.txt and make it work)

(This was tested using version 2.0a, but since in 2.0b the settings look the same but are simply in a different file, I'll assume you haven't touched the logic behind the window positioning)

BUG REPORT:
Edit Station Notes, hitting the Edit Snippets button is not working.

NOTE: If I add a Snippets.txt file to the folder then the edit will pop that up.

SUGGESTION:
Need/Have - Add Age to the pop-up display.

Thanks

BUG REPORT
In the trading form, although 2.0b now remembers the setting of the 'System to System' check box, if the box is unchecked, it does not apply it to the From and To drop-down lists when re-entering the form.

In this state, pressing 'search', carries out an 'anywhere' to 'anywhere' search - e.g. ignores whatever is in the 'From' field.

I can easily work around this by checking and then un-checking ('again') the StS check box.

Cheers,
H
