Newbie Space Trucker advice

Hi! So I suck at combat and need more practice, and while I’ve always wanted to be a space bounty Hunter like Cowboy Bebop, I have also always wanted to be a Space Trucker! So space trucking is what I’m doing. I’m flying around the newbie area collecting courier missions, delivery missions, and source and return missions. For example I just made £200,000 turning in about six or seven missions in one port. I’m nearly at 3 million about 20hours of play. The problem is I’m afraid to leave the newbie area, will the missions outside be too tough? Will they send me on huge journeys across the galaxy? Would the next step be finding trade routes and actually trading instead of missions? I think what I’m doing atm is super profitable, I’m scared to lose that, but I also want better gears and ships. What should be my next steps as a Space Trucker guys?

Just go for it. Most of us started the game when there was no newbie zone, we just started in the galaxy.

It's not that different. There will be much more variety of missions, and sure some will be too hard for you. So don't take those. :)

The whole galaxy awaits you. Just never fly without a rebuy. Other than that, go have some fun!

PS If you want to find some nice delivery missions, get allied with an Extraction system. <hint hint>
Thanks for the tip! What is an Extraction system?

man I am enjoying this game SO MUCH, just turned off auto dock and supercruise assist now I’ve got the hang of it and manual landing and takeoff is so much more fun, you really feel like the pilot. But I’m keeping the modules in case I want to do auto dock for convenience.

When you leave the newbie zone it won't be long before you get interdicted by pirate NPCs when you're hauling. Note that somehow they just know if you have cargo on board (nobody knows how). The best way out is to win the interdiction mini game. If you submit (throttle to zero) and try to run, chances are they or another NPC will interdict you again.

what is the interdiction mini-game? So my long-term goal is to be armed and dangerous even trading. But I have to get good at combat first. I was thinking I’d run from pirates as best as I could until I am better at fighting and have a souped up ship.

Mawson Dock has the best outfitting in the newB zone. If you are sitting on 3 million and have not upgraded to a Cobra Mk. III yet, go to Mawson Dock and do so. Upgrade as many of the core modules to D-rated as possible. D-rated modules are the "lightest" and lightening the ship increases jump-range. Fit a size 4 D-rated shield into the largest optional slot and fill the rest of the optional slots with cargo racks. Later, when you leave the newB area and start travelling you will replace the largest cargo rack with a size 4 D-rated fuel scoop. I would fit size 1 lasers on the lower hardpoints and size 2 MC on the upper hardpoints.

You can accept (stack) up to 20 missions, cargo space notwithstanding so if you are not stacking that many missions you are wasting time, cargo space and money. List the 10 systems in the newB area and their stations on a piece of paper and map their connections. Should take about 5 minutes working from the galaxy map. This will allow you to make intelligent routing and mission accepting decisions. You should be able to string missions together across two, three, four or five systems, completing missions and accepting more missions as you go. You can go back-and-forth through the newB zone and make very decent credits (and learn how to stack delivery missions).

Playing outside the newB area is like stepping off your front porch. You need to know which neighborhoods it is safe to play in OPEN mode and where you should switch to SOLO in order to complete a task without human interference for instanced, newB CMDRs do not go to Deciat in OPEN mode. Missions outside the newB area are basically the same as inside the newB area. Nobody "sends" you on a mission, you look at a list and decide which missions you want to accept and yes, some of them go 20,000 LY+ (but most do not).

I started a new account a few days ago, ran cargo & data delivery missions inside the newbie area until I had a D-rated Cobra Mk. III (best you can do in the newB zone) and a bit over a million credits. Went space trucking.

Flew to Ceos (41 jumps!) IN SOLO MODE!!! and started stacking data missions to the stations in Sothis system. It starts off slow, only a few missions because I have no REP with any of the local factions in either system. As I am delivering missions to the stations in Sothis I accept payment in REP++ or REP+++ to build REP with the local factions (some cash comes with it) especially the local FED factions and I accept more missions to the stations back in Ceos.
Round and round, to all the stations in both systems (except Vantage Point, too far) and as my REP with all the local factions increases they start offering more missions and better paying missions. A few hours later I have over 15 million and great REP with all the local factions and I am easily stacking 20 missions per lap.

Bought and A-rated an Asp Explorer (Asp-X) and flew back to the bubble to get my SOL permit. Then flew back to Ceos (only 14 jumps this time!) and started making the rounds again only this time with 98T cargo capacity. After fitting out the Asp-X I had only about 1 million credits but a couple of hours space trucking and I am back to 15+ million and quitting for the night. o7

Glad you're enjoying yourself!
Be wary of upgrading your ship or modules too fast, always keep enough cash to cover the insurance (Don't fly without a rebuy!).
Until you get used to how things work, read all the missions blurb before accepting it (enemies sent to stop you, stations a long way out etc).

Most of all do what you enjoy!

Safe trucking Commander. o7

what is the interdiction mini-game?
Don't worry, when you leave the newbie zone you'll see precisely what I'm talking about. The aim is to keep your circle as much in the centre of the other spinning circles as possible. Fortunately for you, nowadays the mini game has been tweaked so it's easier to escape than it is to capture.

Oh wow didn’t realise you could get a Cobra in the n00b area! Great! I’ve spent about 20 hours so far, and I’m just picking up all the courier missions I can find, and then delivery, and then if there are no deliveries source and supply. This way, every time I land on a station I get a payout. I’m mostly flying between four systems as those are the ones the missions are for.

Kind of annoyed the Cobra is available in newb zone, spent £10 decking out the livery of my Adder as I thought I would be keeping it for some time.
