No Guns

I thought most solo traders do that?

There are delivery missions and trading that would allow you to get credits to buy bigger ships, the new passengers missions in 2.2 would also assist this "Conscientious Objector" playstyle.

Harsher players may expect you to have a yellow livery on your ship of choice.....

The thing is, I've ranked up in combat to the point where I'm so evenly match with my NPC counterparts that it is not worth the 50/50 chance of surviving. I beat the interdiction, and if I don't, I High Wake. In about 4 weeks I have not drawn my weapons once...

So they are just dead weight and a reduced jump range...

I suspect the majority of explorers carry no offensive weapons when out in the black. I don't. For now.

May not be such a good idea when the Thargoids arrive though...

Yes, I only have mines on my T6 and I the submit, boost and wake away when interdicted. I would recommend mines at least as they can help give you time to get away. If using them, make sure the ship fires on you first and you head straight away from the NPC. If you are interdicted by a player I would recommend not trying to use mines but jink, boost, chaff and wake away ASAP.

Yes, perfectly viable.
If you're not into combat, no need to drag the extra weight around.
Been trading and mission running in an unarmed python without a problem.
Combat is easy enough to avoid or escape.

It's not only possible, it's a sensible strategy when out trading. But I don't know if I'd want to start out that way in a Sidewinder; shooting Bad People is probably the easiest way to a bigger ship at first.

Here's one a challenge: Make 1 million credits in a Sidewinder with no weapons.

I never carried weapons until I got a Python. Then after fitting a ton of huge weapons, removed them all again.

So for the better part of 1.5 years of play, and two fresh starts (one CMDR reset when Horizons launched)... I've played with no weapons. Today I have $600 million and a little fleet of unarmed ships.

Completely possible!

Yes, 2.1 made weapons in not combat optimized ships not that useful if the NPCs are Deadly or Elite ranked. I liked the occasional easy NPC interdiction pre-2.1 where I had a chance against the NPC in really strange ship load outs. Things have changed, now it's not worth the effort.

In combat ships the high ranked NPCs can be a lot of fun.

On the other hand you could use a ship that is more combat oriented and use it for non-combat activities. Can be fun too.

Here's a challenge: Make 1 million credits in a Sidewinder with no weapons.

Easy.
Search a boom system. Do boom data missions. Profit is between 100k to 300k. Re-buy of the Sidewinder is so low it can be ignored. Since no cargo space is needed the space can be used for HRPs, making the Sidewinder quite durable.

The real question is: "Why?"

Sure you can take the small ships with class 3 or lower drives, get performance drives and mod them with dirty 5. That will get you 750m/s boost or better on most, but you will not be hauling cargo, or doing much else really but running. Any cargo or weight added above the minimum to make the ship fly kills your speed much worse than regular drives. About the only thing you could do is data courier missions. That said, those missions do pay rather well at allied status.

But, running is boring to me. The fun in stacking multiple Elite rank missions is watching the idiot npc that just interdicted me go kaboom.

How is this a challenge? I'd say the opposite, making your first million in a Sidey with combat only actions would be the true challenge!
Whenever you're sure not to want or not being able to fight then not installing any weapons is the most sensible thing to do.

Go to a High RES. Farm bounties. Should be over in about 2-3 h.

You could build a decent Asp Explorer with 2 afmu's so they can repair each other, and head out into the void with no weapons. You'd probably be able to get to Elite in one exploring trip if you stay out there long enough. Good luck! I've seen many commanders doing really long hauls and it's a completely different game than the gameplay you can find in and around the bubble.
