No New "Bubble" Please

As always people are fighting change.

Players support the idea of new advance bases.

This will bring more content and interaction.

Player groups are fully involved and concern.

So make the bubble happen and stop always say no to everything new. This is one of the most interesting community action we have since the beginning of the game.

I really hope FP will keep going to add more and more advance research station to study the galaxy, some ranger outpost in the outer border to ensure surveillance and may be some fuel outpost to allow more safety mission all around the galaxy.

Might just be arguing semantics, but I'd rather not have the same old just at a remote location out near the galactic core. I think it's an important distinction though as it's related to how people view it and the meaning, lore, and appeal behind it.

A group of exploration and research base stations that end up being self sufficient is near the extent I would personally care for and find compelling and meaningful. I'm thinking something along the lines of the camps and research stations set up in Antarctica.

......

Yes the title itself was misleading, but I really get what's written.
I'm with the OP... you're expecting something different from the new bubble, if I catch your meaning correctly.
I am cautiously optimistic about what CG and everything afterwards brings.

I'm currently heading there carrying 128T of goods, because I want to help Jaques get Universal Cartographics service back online. (and hopefully Repair/Restock) It would be on explorers' To-Visit list if we can actually sell all the data other than in bubble, without the danger of being shot down by NPC.
(...and soon All the Neutron Star data will be mine!!!!)

To add to my point, something new and unique is needed in the new bubble, and research stations are one of them. I'm not sure if BGS would allow this, but new type of NPC and other content related to research and exploration would really give life to it.
Arriving at Jaques, would you like to see the same copy-pasted stuff from the existing bubble? Not me at the very least.

I'm no expert in ED's BGS, so that's all I can say. Can FD make an exception and get more creative for Jaques? I really don't know.
Again, I'm a bit skeptical, but overall excited for it.

Expansion into a remote location just for the kicks of it isn't appealing to me at all. It seems fairly artificial, contrived, and frankly rather narrow minded.

On the other hand, something that might make more sense given the circumstances... How much thought was really given to evacuating Jaques Station? Granted, this is somewhat of a rhetorical question. But, should it be?

We'll see how this all plays out, of course. I'm just hoping for perhaps a bit more substance and a bit less pageantry.

Your thoughts?

...

PS: Still on my way with 216t. Hope to make it within the week.
I do not see any problems with it lore wise, Jaques station would be the starting point, just like most colonisation attempts have worked in the past, some people go somewhere, others want to join them. Lore wise and meaning seems quite solid really, and I don't think you need to worry about it happening too fast, current CG is just about repairing the station, then they might need to gather materials for building a planetside small outpost, and such, and that is going to take a good while, as it should, but as long as people can see and feel progress I do not think people will mind.

...

So make the bubble happen...

I'm mostly with you except for the bit I quoted. When I say "the bubble" what I mean is basically all of the current human colonized space.

The bubble is already made. Why would you remake it again somewhere else? Because a station accidentally landed there? A distant and isolated society built for exploration, research, a change of scenery, what have you is one thing. Making the bubble 2.0 is another.

Like I said in the OP, maybe I'm just arguing semantics, but I think it's an important distinction to make.

I think there is more potential for compelling content here than making the "new bubble." We'll see how things progress. At this point the possibilities still outweigh the same old.

Just getting there does add something to the game at least.

I do not see the point of this thread so.

Do you know frontier plan ?

Do you remember old human explorers narrative arc. May be in the coming months we will find some tracks, old clues of passage near the new bubble.

A new bubble that WE build by ourselves would be great. If we actually get to do that instead of being lead down the walled garden path of community goals, that is. Give us the tools to build and colonise systems as we see fit and make it very, very hard to get a new station up. And then get out of the way and see what we create.

And no cookie cutter cardboard cutout "powers". We'll do that.

Yeah it feels like Frontier has too much control and say over how these things go down. It would be great if this all happened as a result of player actions through gameplay (currently unavailable) but instead things like this are all at the whim of Frontier. I get a creepy feeling on this one, like the devs are always in control of what happens, not us.

Then again I've never been comfortable with the way the game is overly micro managed from FDevs end and the excessive handwavium that goes on. In a perfect world we should just be given the game and the right tools and let loose on the galaxy.

Thanks. You're doing a much better job of articulating some of the different possibilities than what I was just vaguely referring to.

It'd like for there to be more lore related reasons for settling there too. Finding unobtainium there seems a little contrived to me, but maybe something along those lines. Maybe a new form of life or buried alien runes that contain some kind of technology that harnesses some unknown form of energy to create or destroy whole stars are discovered there.

These are the kind of "out of the bubble" possibilities I hope for.

I'm expressing my preferences regarding this new content and the directions I hope it takes. [up]

What is the point of exploring, of seeking new worlds and boldly doing the thing in the many places, if no-one follows?

That's the spirit. [up]

We should expect that certain gameplay elements are not going to change. Certainly with ideas towards actual in game player created content like player owned stations.
Elite D is what it is, we aren't going to be given the tools to unleash crazy creativity.
What we do have is an opportunity. Albeit one that will be led by players in forum based narratives, third party tools and ingame actions that gain momentum through creativity and imagination.
Physically creating a new 'bubble' that isn't copied and pasted will ultimately come down to the player base utilising what we have now; the ability to tell engaging stories. If you capture the players imaginations, the FD team will sit up and follow. They will introduce elements to further narrative within the current mechanics and under a certain amount of developer/player creative control.
You can see it as overbearing micromanagement, restricted and authoritative.
Or you can see it as a positive move in populating a new bubble led by player involvement and encouraging narrative.

The ball is most definitely in your court.

If we don't do anything engaging, it will end up copied and pasted, a shameful waste of what players are able to do with even the most minimal of tools.

This is the beginning of a great journey, a fantastic voyage, a leap into the unknown, a most definitely strange and wonderful misadventure. Embrace.

I agree eith OP.

Although I dont expect many griefer types yo make their way that far I think it would be good if high end weapons and ammo restocking was controlled in someway.

The griefers are already there, it's being recommended in the jacques CG thread for players to drop out a few systems before arriving at jacques and switching to solo for the run in to avoid risking being kicked back 20kly to the bubble and the rebuy screen! I have never been in solo yet, but for 20kly? I think I will, defeating the point of the griefers altogether.

Too be serious though, this is my first trip out of the bubble, why? Because there is now a good reason. I have always felt that there was a dearth of exploration targets...not that 400 billions stars aren't targets, but after the first billion of so I am sure it would start to get boring :D

Dead civilisations, abandoned Ringworlds, millennia old automated defense systems idling in the dark waiting for the odd unwary explorer, alien ships on their own exploration trips, there needs to be more. We have come a long way since the first Elite, we shouldn't let this fascination and love with an old game prevent us from making this one much better.

If there is going to be a new and remote bubble (or even multiple), something needs to be done about the travel options. FD can't seriously expect us to fly these distance all the time in the many ships with short jump ranges. I am usually not a fan of "jump gate" mechanics, but in this case, I think something like a huge jump gate would be a decent option. It should be about the diameter of the largest orbit starport habitat ring, and could be operated by a new inter-faction committee which everyone starts neutral with that guards both sides to prevent ganking choke points.

If there's one thing from the big bubble I'd loathe to see, it's player factions in systems that took the community to build up. Also not in the future through expansions.

So no player factions in the ..... bobble .... ever. The bobble needs to be about science, research, curiousity and having cocktails. Not about the same old boring waving player strife. Keep that in the bubble.

I suspect the new "bubble" is an integral part of the Thargoid story, when the manure hits the fan people will be fleeing the bubble for safety, I expect convoys of refugees escorted by multi-player manned ships carrying fighters. The lack of point here is that without knowing what FDev has planned for the future there's nothing to really discuss.

I really expect jacques station wasn't supposed to be found so soon, and so long before the rest of the Thargoid story, but players being players FDev have to deal with it. Your not liking it isn't really an issue, you don't have to take part.

Jacques definitely wasn't supposed to be found so soon, I think FDEV was preparing another puzzle in this regard; it's just that they've forgot about galactic map filtering - that cunning dude who found the stations actually ruined their fun :)

As for the Thargoids or some other alien race... I would rather expect that the area around Jacques will be the first to get hit (if that's what FDEV is planning - conflict). You guess how it goes: Jacques tried something that no one has tried before (60k LYs jump), he spent unusually long time in witch space, his station was filled up with unknown artifacts while doing so, etc... all in all, someone or something in witch space may have noticed him, and is about to follow his wake.

So yeah, this "new bubble" could be as well a throw-away episode in the grand scheme of things. My bet: eventually, it's going to get overrun while giving time both to the folk in the old bubble to prepare for war, and the devs to build up the story.

There is certainly going to be a bubble #2 but what shape it takes is a different matter. I would love it to be more research based with new rare minerals to be found and transported to stations for analysis. A possibility of a new mining centre has been muted elsewhere and a specialist outfitting site for that would be really good. A proper scientific type station would be really interesting in my view.

Would happily get on board with something like this.
I find the tiny jump ranges on the current ships quite prohibitive.

PS didn't Elite 3 have the Turner class ship with over 100ly jump range?
