No Single Player offline Mode then?

This thread is comical. I don't know what's funnier, all the people who act like they know the law, or the people calling their credit card companies. Offline mode was part of any promise to the kickstarters, it was a developer goal. Big difference there. I looked at the kickstarter page and nowhere did I see "We promise offline mode." No one here has anyone to blame but themselves. Good luck getting your refunds.

Will the game be DRM-free?

Yes, the game code will not include DRM (Digital Rights Management), but there will be server authentication when you connect for multiplayer and/or updates and to synchronise with the server.

Oh, and those claiming bait and switch, or false advertising, need to stop embarassing themselves. That only applies to retail, not while a game is still in development.

that's why i am waiting for release day

I guess because I haven't seen planetary landings I should assume those won't happen either, despite the videos, posts and information released during and after the Kickstarter.

Good! this is now my concern. For now I'll stay with E:D; but if either of the 'Expansions' end up "on the cutting room floor", goodbye and the door won't slam my back side on leaving; -too many others will be following me...

And those poeple who cannot play the game because they cannot dowload the game or even post in this forum because they got no internet connection at all ^^???

You still don't get it. I'm not being mean here. Please, as only one example, then guy who works on an oil rig for weeks at a time. He has no net connection for the game. He might be able to fire off some e-mails or a few posts to a forum but you can't play a connected game like this over a shared company satellite link. There are many more examples like this in this thread. Please have a read before posting similar comments again.

Play it safe, believe NOTHING!!!

Im not sure you quite understand the subject matter at hand here.

Yea people complain that they are not getting what was apparently promised to them. Tho Im trying to figure out some ideas on how it could be still implemented.

Surely you must be a lawyer. This is not just about what's legal and what isn't. As we know Frontier have changed lists in their store among other things, which is still legal, but that's no way to treat your customer and it's bait and switch.

It was mentioned and clearly listed on the Elite store a matter of weeks ago I believe when I last saw it. Kickstarter, although when some of us paid first, has nothing to do with this, and no part in whether this is right or wrong, acceptable or not.

As mentioned in the newsletter thread the game has changed a lot since the initial kickstarter. One of the biggest changes is the importance of the the offline component to manage the galaxy and interactions. This isn't something we can translate into an offline experience as we'd effectively have to make a new game world - we couldn't share the same world and that throws out the intent for a shared universe.

Michael

The fully dynamic experience is not required in an offline mode though is it. random missions, possibly the occasionaly update to the system layout from the main system is completely within the realms of code and design, fully dynamic true is not pracitcal, but the once a year update is very easily handled

What about the people who bought Alpha/Beta backer or pre-release through the zaonce.com store where it was clearly stated there was an offline mode?

Did you miss this in the FAQ?

Kickstarter FAQ said:
How will single player work? Will I need to connect to a server to play?
The galaxy for Elite: Dangerous is a shared universe maintained by a central server. All of the meta data for the galaxy is shared between players. This includes the galaxy itself as well as transient information like economies. The aim here is that a player's actions will influence the development of the galaxy, without necessarily having to play multiplayer.

The other important aspect for us is that we can seed the galaxy with events, often these events will be triggered by player actions. With a living breathing galaxy players can discover new and interesting things long after they have started playing.

Update! The above is the intended single player experience. However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

Pay particular attention to the last paragraph.

It was also confirmed & repeated numerous times on the comments pages, by both David and Michael... because it was a question that was asked so often.

Im certain there are plenty of ways to implement it. Just something or someone is stopping them from doing it.

Qualify for a refund under the T.o.c's

And those who downloaded it and played it and post here but serve in the armed forces etc for long periods without fixed Internet connection and were relying on the promised offline mode, do they qualify for refunds under the T.o.c's?

Actually it depends on local laws. But I'd be incredibly ashamed of anyone who dealt with this issue via ccard companies or by attempting to threaten legal action without being mature enough to deal with Frontier first.

Some people will just never get it. Maybe because their entire gaming experience has always had online. I started gaming before the internet was widely available, and to play multi player, you had to build a home network. It's rather disheartening to be labeled as having entitlement mentality, but this trend of everything being on the cloud, online only, and completely connected is very troubling. When I saw that a complete offline mode was an option, I lit up. I couldn't believe a modern day game was going back to the roots of which made a game, legendary. I could play it whenever I wanted, however I wanted. Today's gaming industry, is truly Passionless.

Indeed. And there have been multiple posts by devs saying its inclusion is a thing.

Offline SP means you won't get the server driven features. So any galaxy advancement would be limited and the economy less featured. The exact split isn't known yet.

And would that count for the full amount pledged in the Kickstarter, or just the cost of the retail game?

Dunnoh .. I just mod here.. :D I tell you what though, If you need to ask someone, the best people is definitely the sales support, customer support guys who work for Frontier.

Im just a voluntary mod, trying to help keep this place friendly, and pleasant..

Sorry, I'm still missing the word "promise." Also, it clearly states at the end they will investigate. They did, and deemed that it wouldn't work the way they intended. Sorry, you just argued against yourself.
