No Single Player offline Mode then?

Offline Scrapped, Open play online still a networking mess sorry FD, but it is. especially if you live in regional Australia where your only choice is flaky 3G :(
There are friends in my area that are still on dial-up for godsake, we STILL lack cable and have many wifi blackspots.

All I can say is THANK GOD THEY ADDED SOLO ONLINE! Without this feature I personally wouldnt even have a game!

This is why I never preorder a video game. I learned many years ago you do not preorder or back the development of a game based on promises. I am not angry that there will be no offline play as I did not lose any money. I also will not be buying the game now because of no offline play. I will happily buy the game in the future if it gets an offline mode.

I haven't bought it yet either. I was actually going to buy the Mercenary Edition this weekend, but thankfully the newsletter came out and informed me that offline is no longer a feature. I might possibly still buy Elite after December 16th but now I'm waiting to see if the servers hold up or if we will have another Simcity 2013 on our hands, and to see if any other features get added / cut between now and release.

To be blunt: I don't trust FDEV anymore, and I will treat them accordingly. I think I'll play some Evochron Mercenary until then.

This smells like Sim City and Diablo 3 "Always ON DRM" again.

I don't trust the cloud - it loses my saves, it goes offline at inconvenient times, and eventually they turn off the servers and you lose your ability to play.

Disappointed, though not entirely surprised, everyone is cloud for the sake of cloud these days, even when it doesn't make sense.

I backed a game that was meant to be the next in the Elite series and it was going to be online (at last). I feel sorry for those that wanted to play in offline mode if they are going to have to connect online sometimes to authenticate their installation and update their game files but I certainly don't feel scammed or burned.

Unless people are communicating on this forum purely by a mobile connection, I assume that many of these people have at least some kind of internet connection some of the time and would therefore at least be able to update their files periodically. The rest of the time they would play offline solo?

I have never once 'lost my saves' playing an online game.

DRM has nothing to do with in the cloud for clouds sake, it is about making sure people cannot play your game without paying for it. You sound surprisingly technophobic for someone playing an online game and discussing on an online forum.

ED was always intended to be online, it was designed that way from the ground up. Yes people wanted offline and thought they were going to get a version that would allow that but it most certainly isn't cloud for the sake of cloud.

Here you go.

I already gave you the link to the relevant page on the store previously, but here it is again:

https://store.zaonce.net/cancellations-returns/

Go there and click "Make a support request" to the right.

However...since you previously showed a screenshot of your stats where it was clear you have been playing the game for 76 hours already I don't really think you are going to succeed with that refund. You can't really claim you can't use the product if you have been playing it for 76 hours already, presumably also liking it otherwise you wouldn't have put those hours in. That's way more playtime than what I've spent on the majority of my games on Steam. Heck, Tomb Raider which I played from beginning to end was still only 12 hours of playtime according to my Steam stats...

To be fair - I have put a lot of time into testing ED, I have not been able to test it much compared to others but I have done what I can. I was looking forward to playing it upon release but it really will not be possible to do other than if I can get on someones good connection. There is a big difference between bug testing with a rubbish connection and having fun playing off-line at my leisure, which I knew I could do which is why I pledged. I am sure I am not the only one.
Telling people they cannot have a refund because even though they will not be able to play the game, they helped test the game, that is hardly fair.

Yes they have responded and all you'll read is variations on the same theme and duplications of the irrelevance. They have nowhere near backed off from their stance, they stuck to their guns and just basically said "Nothing's going to change" in a few different ways to answer peoples comments.

Believe you me, we are all wasting our time complaining, they've made up their minds, the rest is a damage limitation exercise for them, they've got the money from the poor souls from KS on what I see as false claims and promises. It has reached a stage now where trying to get anywhere with FD is going to be like fitting wheels to a tomato...... Time consuming and ultimately pointless.

They've done what they planned to do and it's game over.

Indeed. They had to make a tough decision that would upset some of the people. The alternative was to upset more. The online players. Which would have also meant turning their back on the online vision. Which has always been their focus.

Again, I get it that you're disappointed but you haven't refuted what I said. Do you think this decision has made them happy? Do you think it's a decision they were indifferent about?

If you do, I feel more sorry for you than if you were just disappointed.

All I'll say is.....

*Checks infractions*

*They run out on the 14th...Whooop*

FD you have really ed this up..............

And god bless the mods on this forum.........

Been in the position myself......When you know it's wrong.....But have to tow the company line...........

Mike said they have not known it was not practical until recently.

You can view all of his posts by clicking on the frontier link in the thread title and on every post he made.

Michael's posts so far have not been exactly consistent, well, they have, but I would liken that consistency to Devonshire custard, which although tasty, is not the most firm of substances. We've had excuses ranging from "Technically not feasible" to "Preserving the secrets of the galaxy" through to "Not being able to keep a consistent experience" and "Having to develop a seperate game", it'd be nice if he picked a reason and well, stuck with it.

We need a permanent online mode that mean a permanent connection. On week end i can play online , with no problem, on work days when i am outside home and often outside my country i wanted to play offline mode on my laptop. Thats not going to be done for the moment.
Its why some of us are disapointed :) Hope this will be listen and a solution will be found even if the gameplay will be worse. Worse is better then nothing :)

I think you may have missed something. There is no offline solo, hence this thread.

Most games require an internet connection these days. eg you couldn't play BF4 without one.

If you don't have an internet connection play scrabble.

You won't be able to play BF4 in 10 years or so when EA ends support. Is that what you were thinking about E:D when you bought it?

If you do, I feel more sorry for you than if you were just disappointed.

Your "pity" is irrelevant, I stand by what I feel and that is, there's more to this than meets the eye. I can't put my finger on it, but it smells fishy and in that lies my issues.

Why on earth would I want to be playing any game in 10 years time?

I will be playing BF8 by then.

I know the UN has stated that internet is a human right, but in reality, we don't always have access to it...

Anyway, I really hope that when Frontier pulls the plug on the Elite: Dangerous servers, they will open source that code and release all binaries.

PS. Seeing the above conversation, I can still play Elite 1 and Elite 2 in various ways today, so someone will probably reverse engineer a galaxy server either way!

PPS. It's interesting how short lived today's (online?) digital entertainment is in danger of becoming, seeing as how I still can play almost every game from 1977 and onwards via emulation on my current PC.

I have always boycotted DRM and "Online Connection Required" games in the past, that hasn't changed. What has changed is the commitment of Offline gaming you stated from the very start. Will be seeking my premium beta refund amount if this decision isn't reversed in the very near future.
