I backed a game that was meant to be the next in the Elite series and it was going to be online (at last). I feel sorry for those that wanted to play in offline mode if they are going to have to connect online sometimes to authenticate their installation and update their game files but
I certainly don't feel scammed or burned.
Unless people are communicating on this forum purely by a mobile connection, I assume that many of these people have at least some kind of internet connection some of the time and would therefore at least be able to update their files periodically. The rest of the time they would play offline solo?
This smells like Sim City and Diablo 3 "Always ON DRM" again.
I don't trust the cloud - it loses my saves, it goes offline at inconvenient times, and eventually they turn off the servers and you lose your ability to play.
Disappointed, though not entirely surprised, everyone is cloud for the sake of cloud these days, even when it doesn't make sense.
I have never once 'lost my saves' playing an online game.
DRM has nothing to do with in the cloud for clouds sake, it is about making sure people cannot play your game without paying for it. You sound surprisingly technophobic for someone playing an online game and discussing on an online forum.
ED was always intended to be online, it was designed that way from the ground up. Yes people wanted offline and thought they were going to get a version that would allow that but it most certainly isn't cloud for the sake of cloud.
