No Single Player offline Mode then?

People have overreacted massively, and had a right tantrum in effect trying to punish FD by doing as much damage as possible.

The vindicative, destructive stupidity of this behavior boggles the mind. People are petty, nasty creatures and can't behave like civilized beings.

I wonder how many even realise that if Frontier put half a years's effort into creating a fully off-line mode for the game, that is half a year lost from actually putting in the features in the DDF into the main (online) game, and from working on the expansions.

Even those who are facing bad internet connections and such, do they think that situation will never recover. Do they think the world is going into a less-connected age, and they will forever be without reliable net access? A game that is planned to be developed over a decade should be worth embracing and supporting even if you are facing limited access in the immediate- or near future.

Such hateful, vindicative mob actions. Reminds me of the bloody gamergate idiocy.

I don't agree with the hate, but I get the anger. And FD seem to ignore anger, so...

Well I have to agree. I'm not condoning the vitriol lobbed at FD on game sites, it's just a fact that it is happening. I, for one, have limited my voice to this forum, unless you count the dozens of positive, supportive posts I've made on game sites all over the internet.

Yes. I was voicing my support, not accusing you of anything. I hope that was clear. The behaviour of some people here and in other sites is just incredibly petty and destructive IMO.

When asked if the game’s networking technology, which involves a mixture of peer-to-peer and server connections, would require long-term financial support from Frontier to keep the online Elite: Dangerous universe running, Braben said: “Yes, and we’re planning ways of doing that. I’m always concerned with games that are server-based that you can’t then play them after the publisher or whoever turns the servers off. We’ll structure it in a way that you could play it entirely locally, so it would survive time if that makes sense.”

You can whitewash that as much as you want.
This fact remains.
It will be a huge problem as soon as the servers are not aviable.

It was the weekend. Michael Brooks was in on Saturday morning responding to posts. I expect they will be dealing and responding to the anger at some point today.

I wasn't just talking about today. And really, management should have responded sooner, weekend or no. That's what management is for. (I'm a manager of sorts now and I've been a manager of small businesses throughout most of my adult life, I KNOW /I'd/ have been in the office friday night/saturday all day). The coders and the general team at FD have my complete sympathy. Management not so much.

People have not overreacted massively. A one line sneaked in mention in the newsletter that something many people have expected to exist - and for some, it was the sole reason they purchased beta or backed the kickstarter - won't be there. Do you really think that is OK?

No-one is being vindictive. And most are acting like civilized human beings, except for some of the koolaid drinkers who come on here to say I'm all right, Jack, quit your whining, buck up buttercup - take your pick - without showing any empathy or awareness that some people feel betrayed and incredibly let down by a company they had a great deal of faith in.

I think plenty of people also realize that if FD had to put 6 months of work into creating something they hadn't denied wouldn't exist until 2 days ago it would take away from other aspects... But why weren't they working on offline for the last 6 months? Why didn't they notify the community earlier that erm, maybe guys offline might not happen? They waited until a week before their big gamma release. It's not cool.

Aaaand, yeah - people are in situations where the internet just won't happen. Go back and read the whole thread. We'll wait. And where will you be if FD's internet servers go down? In the same boat.

Finally, gamergate? That's predicated on invented annoyance, driven by a misogynist agenda and with absolutely no real reason for it other than the lulz. People here have a genuine grievance, just because you can't see it or understand it or view it as entitled whining, doesn't change that fact.

M.B to D.B: "Houston, we have a problem...."

Even M.B. has my sympathy for trying to do his damage control, probably without a mandate as to what he could and couldn't say. Despite being Executive Producer, he isn't the head honcho. I don't know what powers he has in terms of making promises. D.B. is the guy who should have been responding here, not Michael.

Michael was here posting on Saturday, you're going to keep a grudge because he wasn't here for a few extra hours on Saturday?

Agreed. Handled poorly. Never should have put in a Friday newsletter and left for the weekend.

This is the dumbest thing they have pulled yet and they have done some duzies. I will definitely be getting a refund for the 2 copies I bought. If I cannot play with no internet connection it isn't offline. What happens when it tries to connect and I am offline, does the game stop?

I'm glad we agree on the nature of GG.

I didn't meant the subject. I understand that some people are upset at an important-to-them feature being dropped, and the nature of how it was reported.

What is remenicient of GG is the mob justice and pressure group action. "Since we're not getting what we want, we'll punish Frontier, put commercial pressure on them by making sure they get as much bad press as possible".

That to me is absolutely despicable and disgusting behavior, and exactly like the GG .

Just so's you know, gamergaters think they have a genuine grievance, too. That doesn't make it real.

Threats of lawsuits, chargebacks, DDOS attacks, personal verbal attacks, spreading of misinformation. There have been plenty of these things in this thread.
