No Single Player offline Mode then?

One more thing guys and gals.

If Frontier are all devious, and kept this from you until the last moment... why would they be so flipping insane as to let it slip a week before the premier event? Seriously, think about that for a moment.

If they wanted to cheat you, all they had to do is wait a few more weeks, and let the news break after the big party.

No, it has been an ongoing process. More of the game had to be put online than we initially thought. We've also investigated a number of options to try and support offline in parallel, but unfortunately that's not possible. Once we were certain that was the case we made the decision public.

Michael

Nice to see some info on this, but with offline mode gone does this also imply that any hope of playing the game when the official servers go offline is also gone, or is that still something that you hope to prevent, sometime in the future when it becomes an issue?

Just wondering since that seem to be one of the major worries here.

Hi, first post.

I live in an area with problematic broadband, best case I get some disconnects per day prompting a new IP which AFAIK no online game can recover and I have at least 2 months per year that internet is almost unusable even for browsing. After much frustration this has prompted me to abandon online playing for the foreseeable future as I don't expect to either move or the telco company to do anything about it.

Got interested with ED for the Oculus Rift and preordered it when the lifetime expansion package was running out 3-4(?) months ago after checking and believing that it will support offline playing. I got the beta 2 weeks ago, half wanting to check how the OR worked and half to finish how best to install my HOTAS in my cockpit and be ready for the game launch. I believe my game time in the tutorials is less than an hour just looking around in the rift and setting up my controls.

I don't follow any ED news and first learned about it from a post in the oculus reddit sub. After reading a lot about it here I will wait a few days more (avoid any knee-jerk reactions :) ) and if anything doesn't change I will attempt a refund request which hopefully will be granted.

Lesson learned, and as TotalBiscuit said over AC:U, "STOP PREORDERING VIDEOGAMES" which is a stance I will follow from now on.

First of all...whats going on here ?????? Please stop fighting.... keep some ammo for my Follower...

Now My Question:

Is there any chance that we get in Future the Reall offline...or Seperate Solo/Group/Open for different Characters?

And please don´t troll to that post...make later...;)

They clearly must have known about this before Friday. After the 22nd we'd all see it wasn't in the gamma and the storm would break out. This Friday was the last possible time to announce it and leave enough time for the furore to burn itself out before the launch event.

This had been pointed out a bunch of times. No one has an answer for it.

To those of you complaining about this news coming seemingly late in the process, has it occurred to you that this decision may well come as a result of urgent changes made in recent days/weeks to address some of the performance issues that a significant proportion of testers had been reporting?

We have seen how quickly FD have moved in recent releases to try to find optimisations to the gameplay experience, and it could well be that this involved shifting more of the code's grunt work onto servers from the client, thus increasing the game's dependency on being played online...

Well said !

Your saying the decision to pull offline may have resulted from urgent changes made to address the online performance issues?

Yes, fine work there. That fixed it good and proper.

I wanted what David promised us. An Elite game that makes full use of the technology of the day.

That means making use of our connected world. A cloud server and P2P networked clients sharing the biggest sandbox ever made. If you don't feel like it, you never need to meet anybody else. If you want to play with friends, you can, if you want to share the sandbox with the greates possible number of people, jumping in couldn't be easier.

Some aspects of the past had to be let go to make this happen. We live in a glorious Sci-Fi future, and I'm glad Frontier have decided to put their effort into where it can do something truly ground breaking. There are plenty of single player games for passing time when the net is down. There is nothing like Elite Dangerous.

Am I the only one who finds the "all games are improved by being online" argument to be very last decade. I mean when the internet was all new and shiny everyone was proclaiming that single player was dead and all games would be online. Yet some of the most successful games of all time continue to be single player games. More over the explosion of amazing indie games continues to demonstrate the single player gaming is as strong or stronger today than it has ever been. Of course there is room for multiplayer and massively multiplayer games but they are not automatically better, indeed one of the great strengths of singleplayer games is moddability which is virtually impossible for massive multiplayer games. Moddability provides far more depth and richness and content than any company could hope to provide themselves.

So no multiplayer is not the way of the future. Single player, iike PC gaming itself is not dying its going from strength to strength. Frontier may not see that, and that's a little sad because they're previous commitment to an offline version had made me think they did. But an offline Elite Dangerous has every bit as much potential as an online curated one.

This! Currently I am leaning towards asking for a refund myself, but I still wait until David have something to say.

If there are no plans for offline, what is the point of playing for me? It will be one day ended with a server shutdown and my investment in this game will be lost. I refuse to invest time or money in something like this. Online !

Well, IF this where to be true, then what would people expect FD to do ? just say sorry we cant give you a game at all becuase the offline mode is creating performance issues ? i know it is speculative but it would be better to give a game than none at all even though they couldnt give the offline mode ?

PLEASE , ONLY HAVE ONLINE & get rid of SOLO ONLINE

I'm tired of listening to people moaning about online, my opinion and that of my mate Commander Sarduca is it should be online only. I don't see the point in other modes, if the online is too hard then don't play, I am in a wheelchair and only have the use of one arm and I don't have a problem.

I use a ps4 pad using one arm (with no problem) FD. has done this game to perfection, I don't understand how people dis it. No disrespect intended. I just don't get it, the online mode is amazing I've been a backer quite a while I've no problems at all.. Apart from connection problems but its BETA it's to be expected.

Thank you fellow commanders
