I bought the game shortly *after* the KS ended, and offline play was clearly a promised feature at that moment. Unfortunately, I also bought beta access at the same time, so .... [Censored]

The amazing thing about the information era that you and I are privileged to live in is the growing proliferation of internet access to all corners of the world. Even aircraft high in the skies over the Pacific have satellite internet connections now.
Even in developing nations, accessing the internet is NOT a challenge anymore. Cell phone towers and providers offering data services can be found all over the planet, and their coverage is increased yearly as developing nations expand their infrastructure.
When I was travelling in indochina, there were internet cafes in every city for those who did not have wireless data or for the privileged few who did not have home computer (which was many people).
Where were you going for business that didn't have internet access, the Tibetan plateau?

I think it would do well for people to remember why this was done through kickstarter and not through a developer in the first place.

Not only that, but (nearly) everything that has been raised as a reasonable issue was addressed in that last newsletter.
I still feel some sympathy for the people who really had their hearts set on offline... but now I feel bad that they're going to miss out on this incredible journey we're about to take.

If your local ISP regularly goes down then I will concede to you. But even the lowest bandwidth connections will be able to play singleplayer elite.

I believed in the FS and ED development and supported them with a small donation first day when it opened. I personally don't enjoy multi-player online games and realistically do not have that type of time to spend playing constantly morphing online game. The collage days are long over sadly.
That being said I still supported them even that I had no intention of playing. This is called consumer loyalty.Once the offline mode and DRM-free was announced I donated again. Thinking that I can play it here and there without the need to compete with highschool kids and collage students. Many of us did! In those last 3 weeks is when most of the ED pledges happened and they jumped to 1.5 mil. I don't think they would have made it to 1.5 mil if those extras were not added. So yea... I am not very happy with the way they Frontier changed their policy, hoping that there will not be any backlash, and snuck it in a newsletter.
I still have good 30 years ahead of me (i hope) and let me tell you that consumer loyalty they made in late 1980s works both way. If this is not FIXED they will not see a dollar from me and I will go out my way to speak to my peers about the crap I witnessed here.

An imaginary one. The other guy was suggesting that physical DRM free edition means it is an edition with no physical DRM. But that would be "physically DRM free". And if they had really named it that, the scam would have been obvious and immediately detected.

Oh you have that information in detail then please let us all know exactly how much connection time will be needed to keep singleplayer elite current? Just a nice clear quote from the designers would be nice. I believe you are simply regurgitating unsubstantiated fluff from DB without any true understanding of the situation - none of us have. From what has been released so far even single player is going to require a PERMANENT connection whilst playing - in other words, no logging on and going into offline mode as steam allows - so despite all the fluff and bluster it IS an online only game and those with less than perfect infrastructure support are going to have a degraded gaming experience.
Whatever side you take on this issue, it would indeed make for an interesting thesis for a paper wouldn't it?
