No solution? No fun

If the OP wants a commerce sim hes probably better off playing something else anyway, its a shame to hear hes obviously getting excessively griefed though really doesn't help.

OK. So, why play in Open? What does Open offer that Mobius does not?

Because there is a threat, and I have to prepare and be stay alert to prevent potential problems. Some people find rising to a challenge more enjoyable than disabling the challenge. To each his own, ofcourse, but I am a bit surprised that some Mobius players still dont grasp the concept that some people enjoy a challenge.

True. Need a working economy before the OP can even claim they've been legitimately griefed. At this point his attackers are simply saving him wasted time.

So PvP isn't fun? Oh.

Yes, you've wasted about 2000 hours of your life doing something you hate. This revelation wouldn't have happened without the helpful advice of an internet forum user.

Glad I could help!:D

How about this: "PvP is Not Fun for someone looking for a space commerce sim."

Or "What is referred to as 'PvP' is something many players find Not Fun, YMMV."

Didn't mean to exclude you PvPers. Just didn't qualify the statement since it was directed toward the OP's experience. Better?

I rarely play in Mobius, but I do enjoy a challenge and would still play in Open if I was looking for a PvP challenge. It's impressive how often players assume challenge = PvP. Glad that you enjoy Open. Isn't it great to have choices?

The term "commerce sim" being used in conjunction with Elite: Dangerous is still highly circumspect and smells like yellow-grey broccoli, but yes.

I realised my previous post wasn't very constructive. So here's what I do to avoid being blown up whilst trading, some solutions. There's plenty of other posts that have been made about this, so I'll keep it short.

  • Use shields (or factor in the cost of not having them against the extra cargo profit).
  • Unless you are in a PVP rigged ship (not PVE) you will likely die against anyone that is.
  • When encountering any player, scan them and if they are wanted, jump out of the system.
  • If any player in a combat ship looks like he is trying to get behind you, take evasion, if they are still trying, jump out of the system.
  • If interdicted immediately throttle down and submit. Immediately boost away and high-jump to a nearby system. In case of a player preferably jump a second time in case they decide to follow.
  • Don't play the interdiction mini-game, even if you're "winning" it can randomly make you fail.

Attack and destroy the interdictor! This is a space COMBAT experience. Add weapons to your ship and learn to fight any ship you have a realistic chance against.

Go exploring, in 99,999999% of the Galaxy no NPC will every show up.

I do wonder tough what factors play a role in how much you get interdicted in the Bubble. I can always see people complaining about getting interdicted all the time yet I barley get interdicted at all unless I have some missions going on that makes you attractiv to NPCs.

Obviously you are not in PowerPlay in an undermined system.

Ok, I know this is meant to be open for different play styles, but I've tried and it simply isn't worth it. Unless someone has some good advice on how to avoid being interdicted over and over and over and o... well, you get the idea, I'm uninstalling and waiting for Star Citizen. I'm good with some degree of danger, but I have been interdicted nearly every flight regardless of destination. I've been obliterated by Players more times than I care to count, and for what? I just wanted to have a fun space commerce sim. I'm ok with the pirate thing, but there is little risk to them. This seems to be simply a target-rich environment with minimal cost.

....

Go solo and enjoy a troll-free environment. I don't miss open at all.

Pew pew is but one way to play the game. A lot of people like trading or exploring. Some people even think mining is fun.

Players are better than NPC, when you're interdicted by one (which is a rare event unless your doing a CG), you know that this time there is a real danger.

He's right though, there is an element of danger that is unavoidable no matter what you do. For trading, that is the threat of interdiction/combat.

The op obviously dosent like that challenge. So why do you try to get him into something he dont want and instead try to belittle the other two modes because they are not "enjoyable"?

I wonder who the one is that dont grasp a simple concept of "i dont want any PvP combat, i am wrong in open and better suited to Solo or Mobius (if i still want friendly interaction witho oter players)".

Well, if you want to provide risk for the pirates, join an anti pirate group get a PvP ship and take the fight to them, complaining won't get rid of them. Take action.

Same as above. OP obvoiusly dont want to "provide risk" to [pirates|gankers]. So why do you try to press him into a gameplay that he doesent want?.

What have you tried ? Did you ever stop to consider that many thousand have succeeded ? Its the same for everybody - so perhaps its something you are doing - or not doing....
As a general observation - try something different. As a trader go out looking for new trade routes - move away from the starter systems - virtually everywhere else is much less inhabited. There are literally thousands of trade routes where you will never see a real person and interdictions rare. Just go find them. Income from exploration data can easily fund the fuel required - get out there and look for the answers to your problems - many many others have....
Of course this may not be the game for you. In Elite you are expected to find your way pretty much un-aided. For me and countless others that is part of the magic of Elite. It may not be for you.

Eh? I didn't read that at all in what he said.

Yeah, knew I'd get at least one. Thanks for the civil and mainly constructive advise and suggestions. I'll look into some, but not sure about the future of this game for me. Btw, for the record I think I stated I wasn't opposed to interdiction and general risk of attack, but when it's nearly every jump, or at least once every mission? Just overwhelmed with the nuisance. Seems more like trying to run cargo ONLY along the eastern coast of Africa.

I spent 3 hours hauling goods in a T9 last night in open. One npc tried to interdict me. One in three hours. Your "I'm interdicted every jump" is not true unless you have been stacking missions. Elite Dangerous is not a commerce simulator, maybe Euro Truck Simulator 2 would be more your cup of tea?

ED was based on the idea that player ingenuity and skill would be the way to solve issues, including pirates and 'griefers'. One can say he does not like that, but that is about as useful as saying you concede too many goals in NFL 2016 but 'dont want to be pressed into tackling the opponent'. That is kinda how the game works. And when the OP finishes with "maybe some like this, but I'm so tired of tackling opponents I am going to wait for NFL 2017" some people might want to point out to him that his approach is only going to lead to more disappointment.

i think, as long as it isn't even clear whether OP was talking about NPC or player interdictions (and some of his remarks point into the direction of NPC) it is even more futile then ever, to turn this thread into an open vs. group vs. solo debate ;-)
