NO to "third party tools" for ED

I suddenly realized that no one talks about elephant in a room and that is "third party tools" used by players for every game they play - "to maximize gains".

I just wanted to say that in my opinion that this is what in long term destroys gaming as enjoyable pass time and moves into obsession driven sugar rush madness. It's addictive, because tools and min/max attitude enables you win. In the end, all you wanna do is win, which leads to grind. Grind leads to disappointment because at some point you figure out that all you do is grind.

I realize that everyone plays game they want to play and it is not for me to educate how to do it. I just wanted to say that there are people not using tools. They are certainly read things, and hear tips and notes. However it mostly goes out in ad hoc fashion.

So say NO to third party tools. Stick with your guns and instinct. Ask if stuck and read tips from other forumians. But don't engage in mass exploitation of shared information. If you want to find that outfit that works for you - find it. Don't obsess with configurations given you by third party sites.

Edit: my issues are mostly with trading and outfitting info sharing tools (best outfit or best trade route). Outfitting tools that allows you to build configuration and figure out numbers, or commander log, which just logs all your actions, etc. is something I dig it.

I don't think I would enjoynusing a tool calculating a route for me, telling me what to do and so on - except the shipyard tool which is very useful and has nothing to do with grinding.
On the other hand I don't see how these tools are a problem. If players want to use them that's their business.

I dont use any third party tools other than the forum. I tried thrudds for 2 days and disliked the way the game got truly dumbed down. Pen and paper, my own spreadsheet, which I abandoned months ago (because all the secret blak markets go published on the system maps). No VR, No joystick. No mouse. No voice attack. One year on and I've got some personal logs, notes, my own routes and still playing keyboard only.

This all you need to understand to be a trading wizzard

and you can work that out in about a day and that's all there is to it along with the galaxy map.

Very dramatic, but no, I see no elephant, and I see no problem with trade route sharing. If trade occurs too much the route collapses on it's own.
Reddit is a 3rd party, should it be shut down? No tips, or help from there? Steam too?
Using tools like coriolis, edshipyard, capt's log, everything the game should ship with, but doesn't, is a bad thing?
I maximize my exploring gains from this very forum.
Should there be outrage?
Good luck trying to Powerplay with comms that ED doesn't provide.

Sure you can go with your own 2k round trip trading route if you like. But when you need another 600m Cr to go from Tycoon to Elite, and you know there are routes out there that make double that, it's just far too tempting to take a peek & see where they are. Trying to find that elusive jackpot trade route on your own really can be like looking for that needle in 3000 haystacks or systems. I gave in & regularly use trade tools to help me, and it will still take me weeks to reach my goal. Each to his own though :)

Plenty of people don't give in. I'm mostly done with the triple Elite grind and never once will I ever touch slaves for the rest of the time this game runs it's course.

No doubt, to each his own Candy Crush.

I agree to a point, but the market tools that I feel should be in-game are lacking.

I feel metric data should be more available from within the game. A market history visualization is something I'm really wanting in the game. I'm just not going to keep my own notebook, it doesn't feel right (plus my desk already has enough crap on it for this game).

I should be able to search data for markets I've visited. Of course, the prices should only be as they were when I last visited.

Not asking that FDev to highlight routes for me, but don't make me pull out a pen and paper. Lazy, maybe, but I feel like these are things that should be in the game.

Whatever....OP. You can't really be expecting people to play the game ONLY YOUR WAY, right? Get off your high horse and let people enjoy themselves the way they want to.

He's not on a high horse. I doubt he's trying to force people to play his way.

"I realize that everyone plays game they want to play and it is not for me to educate how to do it."

Just expressing an opinion and one that was shared by many and still is.

You are talking about trade and data tools, not stuff like voice attack right?
I must admit, I do feel a little bit cheaty using it for requesting docking in under a second, but I do enjoy its efficiency.

Well the expression of the opinion seems to denigrate those that utilize external tools...for trade, for group cohesion, for VOIP, for ship experimentation, etc. There is a moral tone that I find aggravating.

Basically, 'Play how you want, as long as it is the hard core, long way around, otherwise you aren't playing the game correctly...and you should'.

NO to "third party tools" for ED

I agree with Monk.
I feel certain functionality that 3d party tools give us should be in the game.
I love the ship builder tools for example.
And I also remember some of the trade tools having some good stuff to offer that could be implemented in a smart way in ED.
