No VR Development? Good Bye

On the plus side it's always fun to watch companies realise their mistake after pandering to the double digit IQ crowd.

What do people think of when they think of Elite? It's certainly not walking around a few yards of an empty planet shooting a pistol at some troglodyte child that's doing a lot of clapping and dribbling.

Whole shambles could have been avoided if the game had stuck to its core principles.

Please don’t talk about Lord Braben like that

This is why FDEV doesn't communicate bad news. 'We wish FDEV were more honest with us and just talk to us like adults.' FDEV gives straight answer. 'No! Waaaah!'
This is of course not an honest representation of the complaint.
market the game as a VR game. Then release an update which will not support VR at launch.
And then it won't support VR at all.

So it is understandable that customers get upset about that.
The writing on the wall is that at some point EDO will be the defacto Elite Dangerous and VR support has suddenly disappeared at all.

I'm curious, are they angry by nature or because you keep trying to horn in on their space?

Honestly I'm not so sure. I'm certainly not happy at them being there, as they didn't build the shed. But then neither did I, I just moved in when the last owner moved house, and nobody has taken over the allotment yet.

But, have you ever met a happy badger? I can't say I have, and you never see them at parties either. So I'd have to conclude it's a little from column a, and a little from column b.

They have taken a likeness to the power plants though, as I store them in a corner of the shed, and I guess they get warm. I think all these fusion devices will be safer in one place, and I am yet to find a physicist to tell me otherwise, or a well educated badger, for that matter.

I'm hoping that they will migrate towards the section I keep the mine launchers in, but don't tell anyone from peta or greenpeace, as I doubt it'll be good for my image as a Collector of Stuphs Worf Hazzing. I have to categorize my enterprise as a "collector" you see, as I'm not going to pay taxes on my stuphs business. I do most of my trading down the pub you see.

Anyway, I feel I have given you rather a long winded answer, but me and the badgers have an uneasy truce at the moment.

Can I interest you in any second hand stuphs? I do fantastic discounts, as long as you keep it quiet, ya know. It is all available as whole ships, or separated modules. Although if you are after a power plant, I knock an extra 5% off if you pick your own.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Elite Dangerous IS a VR Game, it was made clear well before Alpha that Odyssey (additional paid content) would NOT be fully VR Compatible. Who's being dishonest?

You. You're making it out as if people with legitimate complaints respond like babies in the post i quoted. That was the dishonest part I was referring to.
And most don't.

I am finding that a large percentage of the commanders I meet in game are using VR. I would love to see the percentage of active players that use VR.
The active players are really the ones that count.
Elite VR keeps my playing, without VR i would have moved on long ago.

Saw The Happy Badgers at King Tuts in 94. Great gig.

I am a bit in your camp. I did move on for a time and when I got my first VR headset, Elite was the first thing I tried. It floored me how cool it was and I only played in VR since the first Rift came out. When I played the Odyssey Alpha, I couldn't take the flat screen switch. I can put up with lower res FPS if the head tracking works in VR, but the flat screen switch sacrificed the res for none of the benefits.

With Odyssey I predetermine what I am going to be doing mostly (ship or ground) and either load non VR, or load VR. Its a bit cumbersome.

Same here which <redacted> me off. X Rebirth VR managed to pause the headset when you took it off and sent the game full screen to the monitor and they didn't even break VR when on foot. Fdev can't even do that, take the headset off and the monitor mirrors the grey background letterbox from the HMD, making the gameworld even smaller!
Apparently we can't call the devs lazy any more, so I won't (esp as I'm sure management said,'yea, that'll do'), but it sure feels inept (which is actually worse than lazy in my eyes), so how about it @Arthur Tolmie ? at least fix the transition from HMD to monitor (I'm sure Egosoft could probably tell you how they did it back in 2017)...
