No VR Development? Good Bye

After reviewing the details of the recent livestream, and especially regarding the decision to rule out any future development for VR in Odyssey, any desire that I may have had for purchasing this expansion has gone.
Even though I have been here from the beginning, these days I play exclusively in Virtual Reality, and this decision in of itself wouldn't be to bad as I still enjoy Horizons in its current form.
However once the much hated and slated graphical and ui changes are forced onto Horizons, any further desire that I may have had to continue dedicating time to this game will die, and I feel with great sadness that I must now finally and permanently make the pre-emptive move to uninstall ED from my hard drive before I waste anymore of my time with it.
Frontier you have killed it, and not in the good way

Frontier, you're making a huge mistake. Personally, I don't care what you do with the FPS stuff---I have Odyssey, but I'm sticking to the full VR experience and, as always, I fly my ship or drive my SRV. The word "Disembark" is not something that ever sees a key press from me. But if you're going to just let VR for the rest of the game die, then it looks like I'll need to say buh-bye when you finally break ED's VR component. I guess Star Wars Squadrons will become my go-to VR experience.

What? I thought they said they just had no plans on VR for on-foot. Why does everyone think they're removing VR altogether?
Look, it’s enough that they dropped VR for on-foot gameplay.

I’ve played EDH for years now. Way, way longer solely due to VR than I would have played without it. But even with VR, the game has worn a bit thin by now. After so many years, a new infusion of gameplay was desperately needed. If there is no hope that VR will be fully integrated for all aspects of the game, I am not sure, how long I will keep playing.

I was willing to forgive Frontier the bumpy start.
I was ready to wait until they fixed the lighting, the frame rates and all the bugs.
I accepted, that I would have to wait for VR for quite some time.

But the reveal, that VR will not come to the main part of EDO at all really struck my heart.
I can’t even express, how sad and disappointed I am.
And I still can’t believe, how ignorant the devs are about the gem of a game they had created ... and how willingly they throw this gem over board.

This is true actually but unlike other accounts it has a basis in reason and isn't wholly unbleivable. I don't want to be biased though so you have a point.

the change is from "not at launch" to "no plans for further development"
They already have a deadline to make Odyssey somehow work on base last gen consoles and all the fixing that needs to be done. If they make VR it'll be realistically like 2023 at least until it's good enough for a release. That's so far away there's no point saying it's planned - considering all the non-constructive doom and negativity being thrown around at anything they do, we can't even be sure they'll even bother continuing to work on ED.

I can’t blame you, OP. That is hugely disappointing for the VR playerbase. I’ve experimented with it in the past and the immersive qualities of Elite (and sense of scale) are magnified tenfold by VR. For one reason or another I ultimately prefer to play on a 34 inch ultra wide, but am always comforted in knowing VR is there for when I want it.

The idea of them arbitrarily no longer developing VR seems to be them neglecting one of the strongest elements of Elite overall (the experience in VR) that contains one of the most passionate groups of players.

Very bizarre choice.

@thistle, I know your shtick is basically making rounds on the forum and mocking people that have issues with Odyssey, but VR players are completely justified in not being thrilled that FDev will no longer be expanding VR support.

Do you expect them to be happy about that? Is it unreasonable for them to voice displeasure at what is ultimately a very strange decision?

Yikes, I see you in almost every thread condescendingly giving anyone with an issue a hard time and acting like everyone is being unreasonable for voicing their opinions. Frankly in my view you’re the unreasonable one. And this is coming from someone who came back for Odyssey, and despite having some issues with planetary procgen, is overall enjoying the game and sees a lot of good in what they were going for.

Let's be clear, they are not removing VR altogether. just not developing it for on-foot gameplay.
Let's be clear, they are creating updates with new gameplay, and without features which sold people their original product. Elite, from Beta 2014, has been advertised as a VR game. Now all of a sudden it isn't a VR game.
At what point should people voice their concern? Should it be now while it's just the FPS section not in VR or should we all sit on our hands update after update until the game we paid for isn't playable at all in VR?

Join in the call for keeping EDH separate or released as a legacy product. We have everything to gain and nothing to lose at this point.

Which is not the fault of the customer, but the developer. It was they who shoved a minimal (arguable) viable (arguable) product out the door to meet a fiscal deadline. It was FD who told us the Alpha was a vertical slice and that they had a nice surprise in store - little did we know that surprise was TADAAA release build is the same as the alpha build.

How can you possibly expect constructive feedback only?
