So here it is. 3.0 has dropped and I must say, there are quite a lot of things I love about the latest iteration. Material limits for one are amazing. Now I feel motivated and even a bit vindicated in how much I enjoy what practically amounts to looking for shiny rocks. Especially prospecting, It doesn't feel like 80% of my time is wasted finding mats that I will just discard later or flat out don't need. The new textures are beautiful and mostly hi-res and it makes planetary landing fun and interesting. Haven't touched the chieftain yet, however the hardpoint placement is downright boner inducing. Power play bounties are a cool concept.

However this isn't the reason for the thread. I would like to share my opinions on the new notoriety system, and hopefully y'all can share yours.

Notoriety is game breakingly stupid. Now that my opinion is out of the way, here's is why it's formulated like that. Literally nobody benefits from this poorly implemented mechanic. Drive into a friends conda in a fighter and asplode. He has a 200cr bounty that will last 2-4HOURS? This doesn’t even include the prolific bug of notoriety not dropping, or the other bug that won’t allow you to pay off your bounties anyway.

In the event that you yourself achieve a bounty, you are encouraged to switch ships, and personally I think this is a cool idea, but some mechanics are a bit flawed here as well. Namely If I'm encouraged to switch ships, I should not have to fly to another system and transport a ship there to do it, like this is such a great oversight I can't even fathom. I'm told to switch out of a hot ship, but the only way I can do that is by using the ship transport mechanic or to flat out buy a new ship just to get back into another I have docked in said system?

This stupid system that nobody asked for only compounds an already face palmingly annoying system of easily attainable accidental bounties, and to top it all off pulls its inspiration from a MOBILE GAMING PLATFORM MECHANIC! I feel like FD is trying to treat me like a soft baby who is too dumb or slow to run or submit and that’s before the fact that it doesn’t even work correctly! Player killers gonna playerkill, this notoriety system is unnecessarily, even offensively, time consuming at best, inherently flawed at worst, and the only thing it will keep you from doing is playing elite dangerous.

I wholeheartedly hope this mechanic is removed soon or reworked from the ground up because, honestly? Qui bono? If this is meant to help new players, then I feel alienated as a longtime player of elite. If this is a decision to stop pvpers... then apply this system to the murder hobos. This discourages even the awesome commander bounty hunters that can be seen at most cg's because if they accidently gain a bounty, then guess what? Their down time is all day. If a murder hobo is wanted he will not care, and go on his merry way, well as he should. But with 0 downtime. But seriously this system is one giant timesuck for those who don't want the hassle of being wanted, and little else to those who don't care about being wanted. The hardcore pvp'rs are usually loaded for ships and credits anyway.

This is my rant over, maybe some harsh verbage but may you see the wisdom through mah words. Thoughts, opinions? Agreements, additions? Discredits, rebuttals? Thank you commanders o7

Personally I love the system. Why? Because I'm a both a "murder hobo" and a player assassin in game, people pay me to kill people. I'm almost always wanted in multiple places or even just everywhere and I don't care. The people crying (still, lol) are the people who were crying before about wanting a new, harsher CnP system, yet now we can see what they really wanted was to hamstring PvPers.

I do agree with you on the ship change thing though, I imagine that is just unnecessary tedium, I wouldn't know, I never change ships.

So far I like it. I'm never likely to become really notorious but I know I must watch my step to avoid accidentally picking up a bounty, which is now actually more than an inconvenience. This is "Elite Dangerous" after all. :)

I like the new C&P system. It requires me to think carefully about any situation where I might end up committing a crime, and to plan ahead for it.

But I do understand that there will be an initial shock to this change and an adjustment period is to be expected.

I can see a common pattern with the majority of those who aren't happy with it - they have never had to deal with proper consequences of their actions in the game. Previously, if they were careless they could just wait a few mins, H-jump, and carry on shooting their conveyor belt of mindless NPCs. Now, they will have to be more careful and if they do make a mistake they will need to understand what they need to do and where they need to go - actually applying some thought and planning ahead.

I also see that those who are familiar with the in-game criminal lifestyle are taking these changes in their stride - not because they are benefiting in any way, but because they are already used to having to adapt to changes in game mechanics.

I'm sure there will be exceptions to what I've called out here, after all I'm only generalising based on my own observations. But that's what I reckon :)
