News NPC AI update

I think they've removed it for the PC guys but if you're on the xbox ( like me ) then it's coming at some point in the future....... just don't take anything big into space because you'll get toasted by sidewinders and Eagles with great big unlimited weapons. Or play another game and check the forums for updates/news

Nope, I am playing from PC, its all still there.

Hey guys,

We wanted to share a quick update with you to let you know how the investigation into the NPC AI has been progressing after the removal of the Engineers weapons for the NPCs and what the next steps are.

The development team have been hard at work investigating these bugs. To give you a little more information, it appears that the unusual weapons attacks were caused by some form of networking issue which allowed the NPC AI to merge weapon stats and abilities. Meaning that all new and never before seen (sometimes devastating) weapons were created, such as a rail gun with the fire rate of a pulse laser. These appear to have been compounded by the additional stats and abilities of the engineers weaponry. (We don’t think the AI became sentient in a Skynet-style uprising! :) ). However, the valiant Mark Allen from the Development team has managed to terminate these NPCs in their tracks.

The bug fix is expected to go live in our next point release which is planned for the end of this week/early next week but we’ll have more news on the exact time in the normal patch notes forum.

I would just like to take this opportunity to clarify a few misconceptions. The AI has in no way been reduced, it remains the glorious, improved version from the update. The only action that we’ve taken so far has been to remove the engineer weapons to allow us to investigate the issue and address a key bug. Once this bug fix goes live we’ll be able to see how the AI is performing and then, over time, should we feel that the balancing is right to introduce a very select few high end engineers weapons to the highest ranked NPCs we will investigate that option. However, that won’t be immediately as we want to ensure that the balance is just right. :)

Edit: Please note this point update will be PC specific and the Xbox One update will need to follow after. We'll let you know as soon as we have more information.

I'm playing 1.6 on a Mac and get the same messages.
Some npc weapons were really difficult to believe last night, but it's the crazy interdictions that have made playing very frustrating.
I mean how can they Interdict again after so short amount of time and interdict from such angles.
I got a mission warning of possible pirate attention and literally as I went into super cruise, bam, interdicted by said pirate. The normal space/super cruise animation had only just finished!

Nope PC here, nothing has changed
 
So, if you let the high-end AI have engi weapons, do all players get Engineer weapons for free, even if they don't have Horizons? No? Then the AI shouldn't get them, either. It's completely unfair.
 
I think its totally OK, having something for free is boring in games ;)

He paid for the game, elected not to play the "optional" extras and now he is disadvantaged, against other players but more importantly, against the NPC's, how many move pay to be competitive "uprgades" and "features" are we likely to see? I bought horizons, but grudgingly...I mean the core ED wasn't particularly cheap.

my name is Cdt. Adiri. I´m new in this forum and I play this game since a view month. I think I´m just a casual player. I´m from Germany, so sry in advanced for my poor english! ;)
How ever, I feel that the AI since the update comes up is pretty hard... too hard for my opinion. I bought my new python a view days ago... of curse it is not fully fitted with A-level components yet, but it is "good in shape". Honestly I lost every pirat attack since this update. Once I was pulverized in a view seconds and on an other day I was not able to get the enemy in front of my ship. He shoot me away just hanging in my rear, I tryed realy anythink to get him in line of view...
Now I tryed to escape from any combat and FSD breaking... so one of the most exciding parts of the game is without me now. I can´t belive that that is working as intended?!

They are releasing a fix for the NPC weapons issue today. Also the AI will be stay as is is for now but the devs are observing the balancing and might do some adjustments in the near future.
I've lost 2 Anacondas within 2 hous due to the issues (both weapons and AI) and was very upset about 2.1. But I went back and bought a Cobra MkIII which is capable to keep up with the AI and dodge the weapons (at least for a bit). I'm gonna stick with that ship till the issues are resolved, no need to drop the game ;)

I paid maybe 30 USD for elite dangerous..that's pretty cheap to me..

but again, a couple of minutes ago I was killed by a pirate 3.6 mill. for insurance... for a casual player like me this are 2 days of play time. I'm very frustrated!
It feels that not just the AI is increased, but the agility of even big pirate ships is unnormal high. They are firing all the time and you have no chance to get rid of them...
 
Sorry but the AI still need´s a lot of Balacing.
Buyed a Cobra MK4 to travel to the Engineers and do the Job´s for them.
After 21 Jumps a get interdicted by a Pirate in a Cobra MK3.
I get his Shields down and his Hull to 70%.
My Shields only lost one Ring.
But then he seems to be agile like a Vulture.
I don´t see a Chance to get him in Front of my Ship.
Ok....I tried to dissable the Flight Assist to get him in Front but then BOOOOOOM.
Hit by Rockets.....Shields down.
Okay....Try to run but i get Mass locked.
Spinning around to avoid his Rockets.
Meanwhile his Lasers are grilling my Hull and then another Rockethit.
5% Hull.....4,3,2,1,Dead.
Back in Fabian Station.....21 Jumps for nothing.
Come on....NERF this damn AI, uncouple Multiplayer from Singleplayer or do something but this is not the Game i´ve payed for and it is not the Game i´ve player the last 6 Months.
 
And only for the Record.
Cobra Mk3 got 2 small and two medium Hardpoints.
Why the hell he get´s one of my Shield Rings down in ONE Flyby?
2 small Lasers?
The Rockets must be Medium Size.....Npc fired them at me like Poeple throw Candy´s in to Halloween Bags.
