Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

I am now scoiring your route maps for clues!

Haha, I'll be uploading Distant Suns Part 10 shortly. I'll give you a clue and say that where I filmed #10 was very close to where I suspect this alien civilization is going to be located (if that's what it is). The vid shows my location on the map too, so it should be easy to find once you've seen that ;)

Question for deep space explorers..

Suppose you found an area of space, tens of thousands of light years away from Sol, an area that encompasses a 1,500 LY sphere of densely packed stars that dwarfs human colonized space, and all of which seem to carry the "unknown permit" tag that denies you access to those systems.

What would you think it was?

  • The location of the homeworlds of a soon-to-be-added alien civilization?
  • A place where some gigantic FD injected event will be held?
  • Or just a bug?

It can only be...

I assume you're referring to my thread earlier today. I'm hardly a beginner (Ranger) and I know they don't repair the important modules nor do they repair the hull. However, they weigh nothing at all (0.00 tons) and they can repair other modules such as the fuel scoop. There are no negative sides to bringing one or more of them along.
But they are useless, you have a poll reflecting that fact.

I really wish one of the 5 new ships is something great for explorers. The little time I've played the game now I've traded rares and I have some million credits now, but to kit out an ASP for exploration I need a lot more than that. Hauler is still too cramped. I guess my current Cobra and Viper's don't jump far enough.

(I want a big windshield for exploration screenshots or Rift experience, and when you take nice screenshots you sometimes have to get in real close, so I need shields and a decent kit)

As a sidenote, I've jumped to thousands of stars, but I never get used to that feeling. Especially when it's a dwarf, it's like an instinctual fear. Not looking forward to jumping to a black hole :p

A Lakon Type 6 could be used in theory as well, but the Hauler has the same overall capability

Hi there,

After I set a multi-jump route on the galaxy map, I invariably arrive at a system with things to scan. At which point, once I am done and deselect my most recent target, shift+J won't activate jump to my next routed system. I can "select" the next sstem on the route but the plotted route is then lost. Is there an easy way to resume a plotted route without replotting?

Cheers,
Sparkie

On my first real exploration trip. Reconfigured ASP for max jump range and went to California nebula direction. Found various black holes, giant stars, roaming inside the nebula systems.

Now heading over to the horsehead/witchhead area before going back.

The view from out here into the galactic disc is spectacular in Oculus, and its just really a nice way to play.

Weirdly enough I ran into not 1, but 2!! commanders in the same system out there. Totally crazy.

Only gripe I have is the X55 configuration in system and galaxy view. Need to find some hints on how to configure the X55 to allow better navigation there while having the Oculus on. Right now using mouse and semi-randomly clicking around to try to click the stars.

Any hints?
Did you know that the bindings have 2 slots? I have an X55 configured as flight stick & throttle but also to navigate in the GalMap. There is a great thread on here "X55 Rhino Buttons and Reference Card" I think was the original post, I foud it invaluable when setting up & programming the X55. Oculus is next... :)

On the left panel, scroll down and you should see among systems you can jump to one with a lightning thingy icon near its name, select it, and jump.
This won't erase your planned route.

Alright, just got my ADS after trading for almost a week, now I'm heading out to the: Pleiades Nebula

any suggestions on exploration besides screen shots?

Making the odd note about systems that are interesting and/or ones you detail scan a lot, including their names. Might be interesting later either or even when you are collecting payment from UniCart.

I wouldn't be surprised! The size of the area matches pretty much what I know about the Thargoid homeworlds, in that they have colonized a much larger region of space than humans.

My only doubt is the distance it is from Sol. Its so far away that only a handful of dedicated players will ever go that far out to encounter them.

S'Rau! You, er, star! :)

Lol thanks, you are welcome, always happy to help a fellow explorer.

Excuse my laziness but, please, where would that be ?
Could be my next trip out when i come back from the current one.

Its on the far side of the galaxy. I passed by it a couple of days ago, took me a while to find a route around it as it covers an area about 3 or 4 times larger than human space.

I'll post its location on the map tomorrow or Monday.

I think its far too large and distant to be just for some future event so has got to be the location of an alien civilisation yet to be added... or possibly just a bunch of unfinished systems frontier don't want us to have access to just yet.

And would you tell anyone where it is? :D

So I would suggest Aliens, as I guess they would spread out in the same way.

Question on my mind is which ones?

Nice find and +1 when I can :)
